What did yous think of canavan on the Sunday Game last night.  Thought he was critical without being overly so.  Mentioned that Tyrone put no pressure on the new donegal keepers kick outs. He thought that Morgan could have come out a bit more just to pressurise him on the kick outs without going gong ho like derry.  At the same time he mentioned the lack of men to come off the bench.

I actually thought Canavan held back and done well to do so - it was apparent he was frustrated at the performance. He highlighted the kickouts as you say plus detailed a few times Tyrone moved the ball at pace and got scores from and questioned why we didn't do this more often plus he queried why we didn't use the bench more especially in ET
The fact his youngest son only got on in ET must be hard for him to stomach especially after playing well in Cavan last week.
Cian Mackey didn't miss Tyrone however. Said they had no bite, didn't play on the edge, were never on the front foot going for the jugular and said it was not the type of Tyrone team he played against (understandable considering the turnover in players plus age profile).

Lack of any sort of strength in depth killed us today. One enforced sub and another in the 63rd minute in normal time tells the tale.

Can't fault the effort and performance and probably should have seen it out in normal time. Once it went to extra time we were always going to struggle particularly with the lack of changes made.

Hopefully Meyler and Harte will be back for the group stage. I'd be expecting QF minimum and then after that who knows.

Our refusal by the management to use our bench killed us today. Yes, they may lack experience but if they were good enough in ET last week then surely they were today. To throw away a 3 point lead with 15 to go and then a 1 point lead deep into injury time was very disappointing.

3rd place wrecked us in the groups last year.  Westmeath followed by donegal so by the time we got to kerry on the third weekend we were knackered.  Hopefully there's better luck with the draws this year

That was our own fault. Got chinned early in Ulster and then only ended up 3rd in our group as you say. If you want a break between the group stages and the knockout then you must finish first in your group as 2nd plays 3rd in the preliminary quarter finals.

No issue with players being blooded, transition years, need to gain experience...all that stuff....fine...

But surely you should be able to see a plan, a system, some kind of tactics beyond the basic, something to give these players a structure to develop in ...

What does that even mean? Lost their way when Hampsey went off on the black card... need to look at that. They were the much better side.

What that means is exactly what it says. It's great to see new players get brought in and given a meaningful taste of league and championship.

There is also a lot of talent there, which means we can go on scoring sprees and look fantastic for periods. All good. So the raw ingredients are there.

What is not evident is a system or structured gameplay to compete with Dublin/Kerry/Derry (and McGuiness back means Donegal are also a much diffeent prospect).

There is zero consistency in the team, from quarter to quarter, never mind game to game.

Maybe I just dont see/understand the current tactics as well as others and I would be delighted to be proved wrong.

Nah you've still lost me. Maybe I'm not up to speed with gameplans. You mention Derry, they were a shambles at the weekend. Kerry scraped past Cork. I've must have a simpler outlook. Tyrone went away from home and beat a side just beat Monaghan. Things went badly awry on the black card and need to look at why. Sitting in Breffini Park yesterday wat I saw was Tyrone were the much better team and when it was 15 v 15 Cavan wouldn't have won if we were there to next Tuesday. Next up... Donegal.

You don't think going a man down and how to cope with it is an element that the management should have dealt with in training? I would be asking serious questions about why we opened up so quickly during those 10 mins. That re-organisation lies with management imo.

Def needs reviewed: they know that. Hard to plan for every single player to get a black card, of all the ones to get one Hampsey probably be the most damaging (Mattie too). I see the glass half full not half empty: 9 players made championship debut. When it went back to 15 v 15 was never in doubt. To go to Cavan and be hauled back like that and win showed great character.
Maybe I don't have your expectations of a team in transition. Reality check: They won't be beating Kerry or Dublin no more than Derry or Donegal will...
 

a club team management would have that angle covered. A black card happens regular in games so it needs to be handled irrespective of who the player carded is.....basic stuff for all teams. Delegation, planning and proper instruction sorts that out easily

I am like yourself and try to take the positives from it (9 debutants, great first 30 minutes) but how can we let a black card derail us is concerning. The real positive was that most of them debutants were on the pitch in the crucial closing stages of ET when the game was in the melting pot.

Hard to know what to expect next week....if we deliver then we could win but it is the total inconsistency that is our problem - we don't know what is happening from one half to the next never mind one game to the next.

Goal scoring opportunity so once its inside 21 its a pen. Thought it should be black under new rule?

Very disappointing that none of the incredibly successful CBS Hogan Cup winning team got awarded an Ulster Colleges All Star.

I would say they are not too annoyed. None of the 3 Tyrone schools who got to the semi finals of the McRory got any awards.

It is done on a trial basis system so I assume none of the 3 schools sent their players to these trials.

I could be wrong but I believe this is how it works.

Loughmacrory should be concerned. Missing their 3 U20s and Donaghy on the seniors but Omagh also down men shows the lack of depth Lough have in their squad. They have lost a few important players to emigration and their must be internal fear of a relegation battle. Be a lot of expectations on McElholm and McCullagh this year.

No more word on McElholm going to Australian Rules or is that out the window now? He was very impressive last week against Monaghan in the U20s.

He was very impressive indeed, but anyone could have been impressive that night against Monaghan B team.
Bigger tests to follow for the U20's but so far so good.

There are probably 20 players who wish they didn't get any game time v Dublin!!

Why has he not had more game time since? I thought he'd be straight back in to first 15 but management seemed to prefer Murray and he finally rewarded them for that.

An Ulster University side backboned by Tyrone players have qualified for the Sigerson Cup final with a 1-13 to 0-11 victory over Maynooth tonight. Darragh and Ruairi Canavan, Ciaran Daly, Conor Cush, Peter Og McCartan, Oisin McCann and Steve Donaghy started for Ulster University while Dara Curran, Adam Donaghy, Eoin Montgomery, James Quinn, Harry Morgan and second-half sub Danny Fullerton were named on the bench.

Oisin McCann for me stood out. Surely worth a go on the County panel, has the physical size and is full of talent. If he got a run with the county I think he would turn into a top player.
I remain unconvinced by Conor Cush, I am not sure if he is cut out for the top level.

Best thing for Conor Cush would be to release him back and let him have a full season with Donaghmore. Was fast tracked too soon after the 2022 U20 win, has done him no favours longer term. Good season with his club would surely help.
Nathan McCarron another who would probably benefit from being released back to his club, two games this year and hooked at half time in both. Wouldn't be good for confidence.

Normally I would disagree on this and tell players to stick it out at county squad level and wait on your opportunity.
However, Cush from what I am told missed all of last year club season due to a foot injury (only played 2/3 games)so maybe it is best to go back to the club in his case as he needs as much football as he can get.
As someone stated earlier, it was a baptism of fire for the 3 new younger lads starting yesterday but this is the level they are at now
Yesterday must have been devastating if you were playing in our defence up against a rampant Dublin team.
Will be interesting to see how Derry cope next weekend

Not sure what took the CCC so long when releasing the fixtures. They are the exact same as last year, only difference is home/away is flipped for each round from last year. Shocking stuff.

Are you sure. My own club is obviously reversed as is normal but they are in different order to last year. The starred games make is a problem for the fixture makers to be fair

Looking forward to Croker on Sunday. This will be a test but with it being the last match before championship then we must use it for real benefit.
