If you note Minder I was asking. I vaguely remember something about some of the other survivors falling out with him re his role in the event. I could be wrong.
As I said I'm note trying to be disrespectful, just wondering.

i've always keen interest in this tragedy and read fairly extensively on it, but i never remember anything like this being suggested?

The Flowers of Manchester

One cold and bitter Thursday in Munich, Germany,
Eight great football stalwarts conceded victory,
Eight men who will never play again who met destruction there,
The flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester

Matt Busby's boys were flying, returning from Belgrade,
This great United family, all masters of their trade,
The Pilot of the aircraft, the skipper Captain Thain,
Three times they tried to take off and twice turned back again.

The third time down the runaway disaster followed close,
There was a slush upon that runaway and the aircraft never rose,
It ploughed into the marshy ground, it broke, it overturned.
And eight of the team were killed as the blazing wreckage burned.

Roger Byrne and Tommy Taylor who were capped for England's side.
And Ireland's Billy Whelan and England's Geoff Bent died,
Mark Jones and Eddie Colman, and David Pegg also,
They all lost their lives as it ploughed on through the snow.

Big Duncan he went to, with an injury to his frame,
And Ireland's brave Jack Blanchflower will never play again,
The great Sir Matt Busby lay there, the father of his team
Three long months passed by before he walked again.

The trainer, coach and secretary, and a member of the crew,
Also eight sporting journalists who with United flew,
and one of them Big Swifty, who we'll ne'er forget,
the finest English 'keeper that ever graced the net.

Oh, England's finest football team its record truly great,
its proud successes mocked by a cruel turn of fate.
Eight men will never play again, who met destruction there,
the flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester

I suppose this song/poem will always crop up this time of the year.
RIP Busby Babes and all former United greats.
Inaugural Football Championship Prediction Winner.

An Fear Rua

Just got back from Old Trafford today.
Outside was a decent and simple showing of respect.
People gathered under the memorial, queued to leave and view the floral tributes. Crowd sang a few songs, and then fell silent as the celebrants voice was broadcast outside. 23 candles were lit by Gary Neville, each enscribed with a victims name, and a minutes silence followed at 15.04. This was follwed by a round of applause , and then the singing of the flowers. It was respectful, not maudlin and appropriate.

It was good to see the diversity in the crowd. Many old folks, obv those who had seen and lived through the actual event, and a great number of young lads who had made the effort to get off work for a few mins to be there and show respect.

The weird thing, is that the only one I noticed was a lad in a ROMA scarf!!!
The other club bit is only really done when someone passes away- Busby being a good example., But id say its a safe bet that among the older people were blues etc. I dont think its really the done thing in manc to highlight support for another team at these things.

Fair enough. I thought some lads from Citeh, Bolton, Liverpool, Everton etc might be there to show solidarity, especially if they live in Manchester.

The Real Laoislad

Of all the numerous jerseys United have had since the Premiership began and God knows they take the biscuit in bringing out new strips, they one they are wearing today is as nice as i have seen a good old fashion no bullshit jersey

Square Ball

hard to take, no excuses out harried and a lack of cutting edge.

Did the occasion get to the players?

I think that would be a very poor excuse but one i expect to be rolled out by all United Fans..It would also be unfair to City to say such a thing as they played very well today and have so far fully deserved their 2-0 lead..
Still 10mins left and knowing United anything could happen
You'll Never Walk Alone.

Its possible, but no excuses from me..... Shit happens

I have seen United play twice now in a week..They were brutal against Spurs and were lucky to get a point and they were brutal again today and got what they deserved..which was nothing
Nothing to do with the day that was in it
