Strangled at midfield

Monaghan do enough. Poor fare but you can't blame Carlow for setting up as they did. A bit surprised that Monaghan weren't better equipped to break them down though they'll not meet anyone playing like that from here on in.

Blowitupref

Best team won FT Carlow 1-7 Monaghan 1-12. Hard luck to the underdogs Carlow used the right tactics that gave themselves the best chance of causing the upset of the summer and led until the 60 minute but Monaghans superior fitness at the end a telling difference.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Kieran Hughes has been the best Monaghan player, by a long way

If I had to pick one of the Queueses to play for Meath, it would be him.
If you were any use you'd be playing.

Monaghan have kicked 15 or more wides against Cavan, Down and now Carlow. It's been absolutely killing them and if they don't sort it out they won't get to a quarter final never mind win one.

McCarron was on fire in the league but can't handle the physical stakes in the championship. Really disappointed in him. I thought bringing on the no 25 and Carlow running out of steam where the reasons monaghan won. Does Darren Hughes get a suspension now for black cards?

Main Street

Easy for Monaghan in the end, undoubted class put bad losers but plucky Carlow to the sword.
Good timely subs by our Malachy.

Cunny Funt

Hard luck to Carlow died with their boots on and to think the grey hair men in suits at congress will likely deprive counties like Carlow having championship games like this against Div one opposition in the years ahead.
