What is the Leinster equivalent of the McRory Cup (Ulster provincial "A" colleges competition) and what (if any) Kildare schools/colleges have had a good record in the competition?

Heshs Umpire

The Hogan Cup.
Kildare colleges have virtually no record in it with (as far as I know) their only win in 1923 by St Thomas of Newbridge.
Well I could keep it above
But then it wouldn't be sky anymore

Is it Patrician College in Newbridge? I think they are fairly decent, without ever winning it. I think Clane CBS (?) are also a strong enough side.

Is there 2 Hogan Cups? The main colleges trophy for the whole country is the Hogan

The PBS in Newbridge, the CBS in Naas, Coláiste Chiaráin in Leixlip and Scoil Mhuire Community School in Clane have competed over the years in the A section but none of these schools have won it and often float between A and B. Patrician's would be the strongest and have an All-Ireland B title to their name backed-boned by Niall Buckley and Anthony Rainbow.

Scoil Mhuire Clane won the All-Ireland B Colleges final in 1988 with a team containing future county stars such as Martin Lynch, John Finn and Ken Doyle. As Dinny pointed out Patrician College Newbridge won the same competition a few years later with the likes of Niall Buckley and Anthony Rainbow.

I'm not aware of any other wins since that but I've been out of Kildare a while now.

My apologies, it's not the Hogan Cup of course.

Is there no college in Kildare to have ever won an A title either at provincial or All Ireland level?

Billys Boots

Arah Lads, sure that Cup lives eternally in either Longford or Meath. Don't be botherin about Kildare.   :P

As a Tyrone man living in Kildare trying to find a good post-primary school for his kids this is a major concern!

Captain Scarlet

its a matter of urgency for the county. seriosuly though. mels in longford grooming dessie and gary dolan, steve lohan and a host more. then pats navan providing the backbone to under age teams.

Naas CBS or the PBS in Newbridge, both have good academic records and excellent sports programmes. Naas currently hold Leinster Titles in Football, Hurlng, Soccer and Rugby whereas the PBS hold titles in Football and Basketball. If what junior to do well academically avoid Newbridge College but Clongowes does quite well, only around 15K a year though  :o

Will Junior be a future Rags and Lilywhite?
