What other County Board could go and develop a ground (that will never be filled) right at the start of a recession:

Treasurer admits Mayo GAA Board is 'very strapped for cash' right now

Daniel Carey

TREASURER JP Lambe told last Tuesday's meeting in the Welcome Inn Hotel that Mayo GAA Board is 'very strapped for cash'.

"The end of October is the end of the financial year, and hopefully we'll be in credit," said the Garrymore clubman, who said 'a long dragged-out campaign' had been necessary to get cheques off some clubs this year. "No club took up the offer to pay their levy early, so you'll be hit with the full levy next March. Everyone is looking for money up front nowadays, and the County Board is very strapped for cash because of the McHale Park redevelopment."
As a result, Lambe warned, the Board 'won't be in a position to pay levies for clubs', as they did in some cases this year. He said there was a loan of €9 million for McHale Park, and that there 'may be an increase' in the amount being sought from the Mayo GAA Development Draw.
"We're financially strong at the moment but, like our government, there's rough times ahead," Lambe concluded.
McHale Park

County Board Chairman James Waldron told the meeting that naming rights would be up for grabs in a sponsorship package which the McHale Park Finance Committee are currently putting together. The committee met on Monday of last week and the package will be announced shortly.
"Everything is going according to schedule," the Chairman said of the McHale Park redevelopment. "When it's completed, it's something everyone in the county will be proud of. It'll be one of the finest stadiums in the country outside of Croke Park."

Work may need to be completed 'a few weeks early', as Mayo hope to host Leitrim or Roscommon in mid-June, provided they beat New York in the championship opener. No more games will be played at the county ground this year.

Step right up Derry County board!!!!

Celtic park is being redeveloped as we speak!

No, why would you? Both teams are playing football are they not and there were some great passages of play though over all it was a fairly average sporting occasion.

Where?

Cavanagh's goal? Donaghy's mark? The Aussie who nalied 2 great scores from out wide either side in the 2nd quarter (I think)?

All great passages of play from what I could see!

Thoroughly enjoyable quarter there. THe Aussies seem to have gotten their act together. Gallagher made a great save to deny the Aussies a goal and McDonnell got completely wrapped up when it looked like he was straight in for a goal.... I hope we get more of the same for the 2nd half very competitive, some great scores and also very sporting!

Agree with that Glynn has been excellent. Can anyone tell me what the Aussie keeper was trying to do though?
#10432
They've improved this half... Gallagher has been safe as houses so far hasn't put a foot wrong!

Insofar as I have slated our CB for their handling of different things this loast while such as Discipline (See P Bradley last year and the County Final debacle this year), their appointment of Paddy Crozier and their great idea of building a 40,000 capacity Celtic Park (Sean Kelly actually had to have a word at a fundraising function a while ago after seeing the plans!) I would have to say that we do do some things well. Owenbeg was the first of it's kind in the North (I think but don't quote me on it it has been there for a long time though) and is expanding to be an even greater facility, our coaching structures are fantastic, and our website is also fantastic while Celtic Park when finished will be a very good ground and I believe the CB made the right choice in management this year so it's not all bad.

The Donegal scenario is absolutely appaling and is really showing the whole county up in a very bad light. I would have them then us then Antrim for CBs!

It's not exactly Ulster's first choice team either KM but I think that Ulster have ye boys number now (except in the egg chasin but then we won that well back before the Munster bandwagon rolled in).

I think it's a pity also about this as I'd be fairly interested in watching this game had it been on anywhere reasonable. The idea of staging it on St. Paddy's as a double header with the Club finals is a great one I think and something that should definitely be looked at!

It's not the goalie it's a mindset. Nobody can sit there and tell me Antrim don't have the players of course they do. For me I think the St. Gall's contingent have their head up their hole and don't commit to the County team the way players in other counties do and the other half of the team have been in the doldrums for so long that it's just hard to get the winning mentality back. Until you get someone in who can sort that out Antrim wil be perennial underachievers!

Any of you lads know anything about the Ladies football? My club is playing Truagh Gaels in the Ulster Junior final on Sunday and any info would be much appreciated thanks!

Heard bad enough reports about him at Fermanagh... basiclly the players stumbled across a method of playing and it got them to an AISF replay.

Sounds like a good ticket though in fairness. Paddy Tally would be some coup! Why he has been in the inter county wilderness for the last few years is beyond me he's supposed to be class!
