A lot on here being made of "The Benny Goal" changing the course of the game.
All hypothetical!! Had Down not already the goal on the scoreboard would P.McComskey have fisted over the bar or gone for goal???
Would P. Fitzpatrick have fisted over instead of taking advantage of a clear cut goal opportunity??
We will never know. But in my opinion Down were always capable of getting the better of the Kildare defence.
Great spirit showed by Kidare to almost nick it at the end.
PME got the hop ball correct at the end as Mckernan was being pushed down onto the ball and may have touched it on the ground. Would have been harsh to give penalty or a free out.

This shíte does my head in. whether it be Dublin complaining or Tyrone or whoever.

Every team has ONE CHANCE to win their provincial title.

And subsequently, when they are finished with the provincial championship...

Every team has ONE CHANCE to win the All Ireland.

Completely fair, completely open. The suggestions going round to try and make things easier for provincial winners and provincial runners-up are just pure nonsense.

The first time ever all the provincial finalists are out by the SF stage, and suddenly the system is wrong  ::)
Balls

Totally agree Hound!!!

Am i missing something?
Has the qualifier system changed this year to that of the past 9 years?
Why all of a sudden is there a cry for change?
Is it because the mighty have fallen this year?
There has been talk of teams building up a head of steam through the qualifiers.
In the past teams complained about having to play week in week out as it was too much for amateur players.
Hard to keep everyone happy.

GAA Discussion / Kildare v Down

Kildare very impressive today after a poor start and surely go into the semi a slight favorites.
Down have now lost all elements of surprise and will not be taken lightly.
I would rather travel to Dublin in hope rather than expectation.
How does everyone see this game??

You're mad in the head Indiana.

Kerry have three exceptional fowards and in Marc O Se, one outstanding defender.

The rest of them are no better or worse than 90% of county players.

Kerry had 9 top class players last summer and were an exceptional team for it. But this is a different vintage. Some people just see green and gold then go google eyed.

Down have no good defenders , an average midfield and 3 good forwards. And you think that will beat kerry? Ther eis only one person mad in the head mate and it ain't me. This isn't 1991 or 1968. You'd want to fast forward a bit.

Who was telling ye this ? Pat Spillane or Martin McHugh ? our defence has come on alot this year , have a look at our scores against tally in the league . An average midfield ? Ambrose would get onto any team in the country and Kalum King has had a brilliant first year and will only get better . I have no worries about our forwards if they click there are as good as most . How many times have you seen Down play Indiana ? or is your opinion based on what you read in the papers . Anyway hope the lads do themselves justice tomorrow ,  go out and give it everything . James's first year can only go down as a success .

Down are tier 2. Tomorrow they are playing a tier one side and will lose. By 7-8 points in my view. It doesn't take much for down fans to lose the run of themselves. Big wins over Sligo mean nothing at this level.

GAA Discussion / Re: Sligo V Down Rd 4 Qualifier
July 25, 2010, 03:03:44 PM
Well done To the Down lads and management. Starting 15 all lined out in what i would consider their proper positions.
One point everyone seems to have missed. Down scored a record number of scores by hand. I am guessing about 2-8.
This could be a worry as apart from Marty Clark we were unable to score outside 30 yrds.
How many teams will allow us to get inside the 30 with ease at HQ?
