I'd second the mention for the Bushtown House in Coleraine. Family friendly with pool and short drive to Portrush.

Can anyone recommend some good bedtime story books with Irish myths and legends? The Julia Donaldson books are absolutely great, but I'd love to introduce a some Irish stories about Cuchulain or Queen Medb etc.
I've searched Amazon, but the ones on there aren't great - not very well Illustrated.

I was talking to a fella yesterday evening and he came out with a classic saying I hadn't heard in years.
"Die dog or shite the license" - more or less a do-or-die situation. Does anyone know where this term came from, surely there must be a story behind it. A quick google search throws up a reference to it in Brendan Behan's Borstal Boy, but no explanation or etymology for it.

Love this talk from Speiths caddy about 'drawing the picture' and 'seeing the picture' reminds me of the Kriss Akabusi " positive mental attitude " malarkey..

Smart play DNS is a great job when you're on hols and want to watch Sky GO. Skuppered by shoite wifi, so now sitting in the nearest hotel residents bar. Grace is looking most solid at this stage. Awful pity to see the 'top 5' Reed flounder...😏

I just seen Garcia's tweets - he's not afraid to speak his mind..!

http://www.golfdigest.com/blogs/the-loop/2015/06/sergio-garcia-rips-chambers-bays-greens-us-open.html

As I said before, who cares what they look like, in fact it might even make it more interesting / difficult for the players to read a putt on a miscolored surface. Its the uneven / bumpy surface is the real joke. Surely this isn't 'by design', more a fail by the agronomist / green-staff.

I missed Monty's comments.. He's my favorite player in the whole tournament at the minute... I put a few quid e/w on him yesterday morn at 500/1. Hopefully he can stay in touch over the next couple of days

Bloody horrible golf course; featureless, characterless and the greens look like stale pancakes.

agree 100% - its as if everyone - players and pundits are afraid to say it. Never mind corruption in FIFA and back-handers for worldcup bids, who voted for this place? I understand the will to get the US open to the North West, but surely there are better courses than this? I don't really care about the colour of the greens, but the surface is rubbish. There's no skill involved putting on a bad surface, the winter greens at my local clubs were better ffs.
That said, there are a few things i do like about Chambers Bay - I really like the idea of the non-level tee boxes that have the players thinking about how to use it to shape shots. I also like that spectators are restricted well back from most of the holes..

Cheers lads,
I've never used Smart DNS, so am hoping it works.

I really don't mind if I have to watch the golf on the iPad, at least I should get some peace.

Heading abroad next week - so going to try Smart DNS to use SKY GO to watch the US open. - good man Beagslife (old thread from last year on the GAA discussion side of the house)

Does anyone know how to transfer SKY GO from Ipad (not jailbroken) to a TV? Is there a cable i can get, or another way of casting it to the TV?

Hi J OGorman,

I don't know much about Hola but I live in Portugal and for a number of years, I've had to head to the local Irish bar for the big games. In recent years however, it's become easier to watch the live games, in the comfort of your own home. That's not to say, that visits to the Irish bar don't still happen on occasion!

If you haven't gone with the GAAGo service, or Hola, why not consider a cheap option, which is much more reliable than the many free streams available online.

The service I use, allows me to watch the full RTE coverage, AerTV (live Irish channels), SkyGo, BBC etc, without having to use a full VPN service.

OverPlay SmartDNS lets you watch all of the above services and more, wherever you are in the world. It bypasses the geo-blocking on most tv streaming sites.

I pay US$5 (€3.90) a month through PayPal for their SmartDNS service. It can be started/stopped every other month if needed. They offer good customer support and the site has helpful guides for setting up the service.

Once set up, you can use it on a pc, smartphone, iPad, smart tv etc. Alternatively you can set it up on your router, so that all devices using the router get the benefit. It doesn't affect your download speeds.

To watch on the big screen, I use a mini pc connected up to my HDTV. You can also use a linked laptop, or even some blu-ray players with good browser capabilities. Some Samsung smart tv's and blu-ray players can even have the RTE Player App loaded. But that's a story for another day. PM me if you need more info on it.

I use either the RTE live streams on the RTE Player, or AerTV.ie (now subscription based for HD channels - €6 per month) to watch most of the GAA. If you have SkyGo, it also works outside of Ireland, or the UK. Similarly it works with Netflix (you can even change to the US version), BBC iPlayer (when outside the UK), Hulu and BeIn Sports (for Premiership football) etc.

I hope the above helps your or someone else, to enjoy the rest of the Championship drama as it unfolds.

Up Donegal!!!
