Quote from: armaghniac on March 25, 2024, 07:51:07 PMThe Paddy Power Ranking

Dublin 13/8
Kerry 5/2
Derry 11/2
Galway 9/1
Mayo 10/1
Armagh 20/1
Donegal 22/1
Tyrone 25/1
Roscommon 80/1
Cork 100/1
Monaghan 100/1

I'm not sure that Galway/Mayo are hugely better than Armagh/Donegal/Tyrone but one of them will be Connacht champions and that has seeding advantages.

I'm surprised to see Armagh above Donegal and Tyrone.  I suspect that is reflected in the handier run to the Ulster Final. I'd say all 3 would fancy themselves v Galway and Mayo despite the gap int he betting.

Quote from: Ethan Tremblay on March 25, 2024, 10:19:52 AMIn my view sometimes it takes a close call or a friend/family/community member to unfortunately lose their lives on the roads for it to hit home to young ones what impact driving can have, not even dangerous driving at that.

For young ones, possible overconfidence can lead to accidents.  Like driving down a familiar road at speed etc.  I know a few that have written off cars on roads less than a mile from home, just because they think they know every inch of it, gives them the right to drive it how they please.

I think about this sometimes now when I'm driving as I have certainly changed now that I have gotten older. Now i'm not saying I was a complete tube in my early 20s but I didnt like to be stuck behind someone that I perceived to be crawling. I did have a very near miss while overtaking on a straight section of a country road that I thought I knew well.  A car came out of the hidden dip straight on and I was so lucky to avoid a serious collision. I was in the car by myself too so it isn't as if I was playing the big one to peers.  It certainly put manners on me.

Age has certainly also changed my need to drive on the upper side of the speed limit, and the mythical 10% you are allowed.

Quote from: gallsman on March 21, 2024, 05:13:33 PMEven getting signed for training camp would be huge. Make it as far as a practice squad during the regular season and you're already talking 6 figure salaries.

Talk that Zammit has 900k offers on the table for practice squads.  I think I read 250k is the minimum.

Quote from: gallsman on March 21, 2024, 11:47:45 AMHis age is no concern for a kicker. They routinely play into their 40s.

He's not guaranteed a contract at all. It is extremely competitive and while 10 from 10 sounds (and is indeed) impressive, there'll be umpteen other college kickers who can and will have done the same. Kickers in the NFL would be expected to hit 95% odd of any kicks from less than 50 yards to avoid being cut.

Another matter is that not all teams are looking for a kicker. He may well get himself a contract, even for training camp, but he's not going to dislodge Justin Tucker ffs.

Totally understand that and i dont think anyone sensible is expecting him to get kicking for any team in the regular season any time in the near future. Still, surely enough has been seen to get a practice squad contract.

The sponsor is my problem with it too.  The top is grand and I like the badge.

From 25 yards out to 60 yards.

Will definitely do his chances no harm.

I know age might be slightly against him but if he cannot get a contract after that flawless performance then there is no hope for the future of this type of scheme.

I think McGeeney has been searching for that level of player to use as an impact sub late in games but as you say, we dont really have the luxury to leave a higher level player on the bench.  He tried it with Stefan quite a bit.  Most recently in the Ulster Final. Then he inevitably gets the loud cries of why did this player not start if they play so well...

2 touch rule applies in it too.
