The Derry game in 95 was the best memory of all those years.

The Derry game of 1995 was the best memory of my lifetime following Tyrone - easily the best.

I know we won 4 AI titles but that day was hard to beat. Actually the first AI win was a bit of an anti climax. But in fairness the 2005 final was a brilliant final to win as was 2008.

The opposition, the rivalry, the excessive heat on the day, the tension in the stands, the tension on the pitch, red cards, the animosity, the hits, the intensity in the air, the late winner - it had absolutely everything.

We will never forget that day !!!!

100% agree with this but I'll add to that list, the complete arrogance of the Derry fans around us at half time and their growing sense of desperation as the second half unfolded 😁 Not sure if it was because I was younger or had a bit of drink in me that day but the elation at the final whistle that day was greater than I felt after any of the AI wins. It was also the day Peter announced himself as unequivocally the greatest footballer in the land. What a display he put on that day. Jimmy Magee on commentary for UTV's coverage, "if ever there was a point worth repeating over and over again...Peter Canavan is some footballer"
[/b]

One of the best lines of commentary there ever was. Jimmy Magee was the voice of that summer in 1995.

Another great line from jimmy that game was when Pascal got sent off and it showed the replay of his punches and he said "there's the right hook, left hook, and at this stage Canavan is leading on points" 🤣

A day that will never be forgotten by any Tyrone supporter.

Think it was the players father rang Art and said our boy scored (only making this up) but let's say 1-9 v rock today. You'd need to bring him up to Tyrone squad.

Arts reply - the next time Tyrone are playing the Rock I'll give him a call!

What a legend of Tyrone football. Sympathy to the whole family and the Dungannon club.

A true legend who will always be remembered.

Why can't people just leave the game alone? Every week something happens then everyone looking the rules changed. Who would patrol a shot clock at a club game for example? Some of these suggestions are ridiculous. Seems like people just want to go back to the 'good old days'  ::) of catch the ball and lump it as far as they can and hope your man gets it. No harm to anyone but i'd much prefer to watch any gaelic game from the 00's onwards than any of the games you see from the 70's or 80's.

Quite ironic seeing Monaghan complaining about a refereeing decision when the clips of the calls that went their way in the semi final are all over the internet. Bit of what goes around comes around springs to mind me thinks

Are Logan and Dooher an upgrade?  Looking forward to reading this thread in 2 years time to hear the views of those who were looking shot of Mickey Harte.
New voices and new ideas can only be a positive thing. Even already the players rejoining the panel show positive signs.

Be interesting how they will keep all the forwards happy though.

Harte regularly got panned for not picking certain players, Logan and Dooher will probably now come under the same pressure when they can't find enough place for the likes of McCurry, Canavan, Bradley, McAliskey, Brennan etc together.

Split season will help no end keeping players happy....ish. You can understand why some left playing no ball whatsoever for club or county.

Talk of the amount of starred games being increased and different points being available for non starred rounds and these starred rounds being played from April up to the County season ends.

This just your opinion, what you hope will happen or is there actually talk from county board that this is what might happen? Surely the CB will let clubs know soon what the plan is. 2020 junior League finish has to be factored into any plans as well surely?

Brendan Trainor in with Augher this year. Don't know if as the main man or part of a management team. Been assistant to Harbinson with Antrim this past couple of years.

There can't be many teams still waiting to appoint management can there?

Lot of clubs in Intermediate and Junior not sorted for 2021. With a potential start date at the end of February, clubs would want that all sorted in the next week or two.

Is this the Brackaville Stephen McHugh?

Would be nice to see the club season run without interruptions from start to finish. League all played and then the championship. Playing from March through to June/July would be more welcome than finishing a season in November. Think this has potential.

So do we just do away with the provincial and all Ireland club competitions? The competitions which give the Vast majority of players their only chance of playing that level? And do you think that counties will allow clubs uninterrupted access to their players if the county season starting after? If the club season goes 1st it will be a disaster and will cause a serious split in the organisation.
Think you are over reacting a bit there to say it will be a disaster and split the organisation. We've been crying for years to get a regular run of fixtures for club players and a league finished before the winter and leagues finished before the championship and so on. This split season with club starting at the end of Feb allows for those things to happen. No starred games, no 6 week barren no fixture spells, you get a Spring league and summer championship.
Things like provincial club need addressed and I'm sure they will be, this in my opinion anyway is good news for the club scene.

Totally agree here 100%
For years we have been demanding a split season, at least club players can now plan a life outside of football instead of dragging it from starting pre season in Feb and ending in November with mutiple hot summer weekends twiddling their thumbs

I dont see how you think Club season going 1st will be a disaster. Why?? It should be 98% of the playing majority going 1st.
The county scene can play Autumn / Winter nights as they have the facilities available. And look at the joy expressed by many that a hi profile GAA game in these dark evenings is a joy and brightens up the long days

Yes provincial club needs addressed, but is it not better to plan for some club football and wait a year or 2 on this. Im sure it will come back in time

All of this is obviously Covid dependant

Club going first means that the season for 99% of Players will be over by July.

I agree with the split season however County should be first followed by Club. That allows Club leagues to run (without County players) in the first half of the year and then a free run at the Championship in the second half.

So people looking clubs to go first, start Feb - June? So have 98% of the GAA playing population out training in Nov/ Dec preparing for their leagues that start in the crap weather in Feb/ March? How many games would be called off due to unplayable pitches? How many challenge games or proper trainings could teams get in before their leagues start? Then if inter county is starting in July, do you think county managers aren't going to be taking players for training from April/ May time. We saw it in Armagh this year, players playing three league games with their clubs then being taken away to the county.

Would it not be better having the 5% of the playing population out training in their county centres in Nov/ Dec, playing the League in Jan/ Feb and when they are out of the championship players are returning to their clubs, who have started to train without their county men. Would mean a great break for club players over the winter months and returning to training round March or April.

I just cant understand how anyone seeing the club going first is a good thing? Because of holidays? Is that the reason?

How would it work if clubs were first. Surely restrictions wont be eased in the first few months of 2021 and only elite level sports are allowed to train. So are the GAA going to put clubs into competitions without training? Plus are they just going to scrap the provincial and all Ireland club competitions again just so they can get crowds at the county games?

Will also leave the Minors needing a new management. Could Mickey take up the reigns there? Who would be the main contenders for that post?what about the u20s? Is Devlin's tenure up as well?

In relation to MH, the abuse that he takes on this board is nothing short of disgraceful (not that it will bother him) but some on here need to wise up. I'll be interested to see if results don't go the way of the new manager will they get so much abuse. Hopefully he will get involved in the club now. It would be some boost for children to have MH taking them for a coaching session.
