Friend of mine works in a place and they all got an email about 6 months ago that sick pay i.e. being paid for sick days, would be at the management's discretion.  No one passed much remarks but has time gone on a little bit of resentment arose as some people were getting paid for sick days and others weren't (I'm talking genuine sickness, not ringing in on a monday morning because you cant get out of bed).
Now, in the last few months they've taken another turn and are refusing to pay anyone for sick days, hiding behind this email they sent out that it was at their "discretion".

Is this normal practice?  I wouldnt have thought so, seems very harsh.

btw, it's in the six counties.

Went in to the shop this evening after a very difficult day in the office and noticed they'd Creme eggs out on display, yum yum I thought!

However, much to my disgust I realised the the creme eggs have reduced in size by at least, AT LEAST! 20%! and it's not just the creme eggs either, it's the caramel eggs now too! I'm pretty sure there's less yellow stuff in them as well!

I'm off to pen a harshly worded email.

Gone are the days when Cadbury can be relied upon!

Just seen this film on tonight, I didnt get watching it but I have seen it a few times. If there is a part of Irish history I am ashamed off this would be it. It's scary the control the Catholic church had over people.

How could anyone send their daughters to places like these, rip new born babies from their child and send them God knows where, refuse to believe sexual abuse allegations against priests etc.

I cant make any sense of it, where people brainwashed or what?!

I think it is, what exactly are people celebrating? Is it not a bit daft to be celebrating another year over, another year closer to death?

General discussion / What would you do?

Just reading a thread over on football365 - some lad seen a mugging and just kept on walking.
I've always wondered about this, you see incidents on the news when a gang set upon someone in an area with plenty of people and no one seems to step in, if there's CCTV footage you'll see people standing around watching someone get their head kicked in.

My question, you're walking home, you see someone getting the head bate of them, what would you do?

I like to think I'd step in.

This would be a section on the board where the dirty old men can chase the girls, demonstrating their masculinely as every opportunity, where they can seek dates and drool over google images. Where posters can start threads crying about girlfriends and when they think their masculinely is compromised they can make themselves look like a dick in an attempt to impress others.
Also the admin could arrange something where some nice lonely hearts music could be played upon opening the section?

Just a thought.

I've been reading this shit on football365
http://forum.football365.com/index.php?t=msg&th=137474&prevloaded=1&&start=0
No need to read it all - Irish boy is getting married expects to get 150 euro on average from his guests - he thinks people should pay for their food by giving the cash as a wedding present and is getting a lot of abuse.  A knob imo but the concerning thing is that a fair few irish posters seem to be jumping in to argue it's reasonable to expect this from wedding guests? It's the done thing in Ireland apparently - news to me!

So how much would you spend or put in an envelope for a wedding present?

I feel we don't know each other well enough.

Your answers suggest you are an Introvert, not an Extrovert.
You tend to focus on and get your motivation from your own inner thoughts and ideas.
Pints - Planner, facts, heads, Introvert
Not Pints - spantoneous, ideas, hearts, extrovert

Who would have thought it.

...the family is safe, (so are the pets) but you've got a few minutes to save a few things - what would they be...

For me it would be...
The box in the bottom of the wardrobe full of programmes, ticket stubs, saved newspapers etc from the last 20 years
The Box set of the West Wing
Frasier Series 1-11 box sets

It would be a lot of carry - but the adrenaline would carry me through

General discussion / Bridgend Suicides - Wtf?

Quote
Teenager's body found in Bridgend

Another body of a young person has been found in the Bridgend area.

South Wales Police named her as 16-year-old Jenna Parry, who was from the village of Cefn Cribwr, around five miles from Bridgend.

Her body was found early this morning in a woodland area by a man walking his dog across the village common.

Police said there was no link between a number of suicides in the area and no suggestion of a pact, saying they "were all young people with big issues".

The death in Cefn Cribwr is the 17th suspected suicide of a young person in the Bridgend county area in just over a year.

Last week, two cousins, aged 15 and 20, both from Bridgend, died within two days of each other.

South Wales Police, who have been conducting a review of other suspected suicides in the area, held a briefing.

Assistant Chief Constable Dave Morris said: "A number had access to social networking sites but there's no suggestion that anybody used these sites as a means to take their lives.

"They were all young people with big issues. There are a constellation of factors influencing these young people. Young people tell us that the media coverage is starting to contribute to those pressures."

The parents of Nathaniel Pritchard, 15, who died in hospital last week, were present to read a statement.

His cousin Kelly Stephenson, 20, also from Cefn Glas in Bridgend, was found dead while on holiday the following day.

Sharon Pritchard and husband Vincent appealed to the media to stop high profile coverage.

They said: "We have lost a son, and media coverage made a difficult time unbearable. We did not wish to speak to the media. Not just for ourselves but for other families.

"We feel the media coverage could trigger other people who are already feeling low - to take their own lives.

"We feel that Nathaniel might have thought it was a way of getting attention without fully thinking through the consequences."

They said they never believed there was any 'internet pact'.

Local assembly member Carwyn Jones, last weekend said the suspected suicides were spread county-wide, across a 130,000 population and seemed to be unrelated.

Today he welcomed the launch of a suicide prevention strategy for the Bridgend area.

Mr Jones said it had "taken a great deal of hard work and effort to prepare, will be of tremendous value and support to professionals in Bridgend".

Latest statistics available from the Office for National Statistics show that there were three suicides in 2004-2005 in the Bridgend area for those aged between 15 and 30, and three in 2006.

All were men.

Meanwhile, Welsh health minister Edwina Hart has just written to all AMs saying that she is accelerating work already underway for a suicide prevention action plan for Wales.

She said that the recent sad deaths from suicide in young people in South Wales highlighted the need to pull together the significant amounts of suicide prevention policy and initiatives in place into a single action plan.

Has anyone been following this Bridgend suicide thing?
What the f**k is going on with them?

General discussion / Our Pubs and Bookies

What do people think of this story?

Are our bookies and pubs under any obligation to control our habits?

Personally I think it's a joke that this man would try and pass the blame for his addiction on to someone else.

General discussion / Lecale 2, Kindly step forward...

Lecale2, you stand accused of

1.Posting under the name of Blacksheep
2.Posting under the name of Armagh4sam
3.Posting under the name of Sky Blue and making disgusting, vile remarks about disabled people and being responsible for another  board member receiving a warning.
4.Posting under the name of Aristotle Flynn and being responsible for further disgusting, vile remarks.

How do you plead?

The Mighty Quinn, you stand accused of being an accomplice in all of the above.

I do not wish to get involved in any long drawn out thread or to break any GAA board rules, I simply wish to put these points to you and must also point out that it was not me who made the discovery – I'll let the other poster take credit if he so wishes.

I will return only to withdraw my allegations and apologise if I'm incorrect.
