Am struggling to get my head around this.A well educated, middle aged, family man, whose career is at its apex and built on solid foundations of discipline, attention to detail and preparation, puts himself in a position where he faces a drunken driving charge?

General discussion / Jacob Rees -Mogg V Leo Varadkar
September 09, 2017, 07:57:02 AM
I see Jacob is now third favourite in the betting to become next British PM.What a turn around if Britain was to be led by a devout Catholic who opposes abominations like same sex marriage and abortion as opposed to a neo liberal gay atheist in charge of the Free State.

Such a scenario is bound to increase support for the Union among Northern Catholics.

End of Armagh career?

It only attracts soccer fans who want to fill in the vacuum during summer months, citing largely empty stadia at other times of the year???

This was the subject of a heated debate on Talk to Joe yesterday. Most if not all the callers seemed to be offended, and there was a spokesman on for Paddy Power who took a lot of abuse to the extent that I reckon that a suggestion made by one contributor, that PP make a donation to the upkeep of the basilica, may well be taken up.

I myself think that God has a sense of humour and as long as it's not malicious, as this wasn't,it's ok.I recall watching a documentary on Fr Mick Cleary (not a shining example of a priest I know), when he was doing a bit of stand up at a packed community hall, and he told the joke about an IRA man in confession telling the priest he had blown up a few RUC barracks, and the priest absolved him and told him as a penance to "Go out and do the Stations!" 😂😂😂.I saw another joke in the NI Humanist magazine a few years ago about the introduction of a new low fat communion bread at a Belfast chapel, and one parishioner after receiving, said "I can't believe it's not Jesus!". Borderline but it made me chuckle nonetheless

General discussion / Donegal in the summer
August 19, 2017, 05:27:48 PM
I spent a few days in Donegal during the week. It's a place I haven't spent a great deal of time in.However I expected pubs full of craic and traditional music sessions etc at night, instead I found practically empty pubs and ghost towns like Carrigart,Downings,Creeslough etc. Is this the norm at this time of the year (mid August?)

GAA Discussion / Portadown to become a GAA Mecca!

This location is barely half a mile from my Ancestral homestead and current country estate! Great boost for somewhat beleaguered Gaels in Portadown and all of North Armagh! Long overdue development in the North of the county

Now when its own interests are at stake, but never before in support of legitimate grievances held by Northern Nationalists?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-40545129. Even the most hard hearted anti Catholic would have to have the utmost respect for this guy,who in his previous secular life had it all,but has given it all up to follow his true vocation.

I have just become one,and would appreciate any advice.Gone through the process of registering and compliance (including deposit protection).I take it it's not simply a case of sitting back and watching the money roll in?

Is it just me,or do people generally find, with the exception of Pat Shortt,Freestate comedians (and I use that term losely) to be lewd, obnoxious and generally not funny?

Seems like the tribes cannot even agree themselves internally on candidates and which constituencies to step aside from etc.Another example of the utterly failed philosophies of unionism and nationalism and the splits therein.

Pleasant enough experience, and never paid more than €5.70 for a pint anywhere in Dublin or Wicklow.Amazed to see the shops all open in Dublin on Easter Monday, and a drive round Killiney on a good morning never fails to inspire.

Only poor experience was being hastily ushered out of the Pro Cathedral at 12 noon on Easter Monday by a jobsworth, after I had literally just stepped over the threshold? Apparently he had to lock up? At noon? What is that all about?

General discussion / Lowest profile ever?

Easter rising commemorations this year,it seems to me anyway. Why is this? Is it the inevitable consequence of the year long celebrations last year,or the drastic revisionism which accompanied last year's celebrations which have left people confused as to whether they should be celebrating or ashamed by the events of Easter 1916.
