Everton were unbeaten in nine derbies over a five year period between March 1994 and April 1999 when they were a dreadful team.

That dreadful team won a trophy which is more than any Everton team has managed since.

Liverpool were also dreadful though in those years

There was nothing between the teams and Everton actually put in a performance
I'd be confident enough for the home derby

Gary Mac, Mane and now Derek Origi. Three absolute classic, harrowing derby day hole-sickenings for Everton. When will their torment end?
And Andy Carroll in FA Cup semi final and VVD in the Cup last season.
Gary Mac goal probably my favorite. Sunday was class though especially as the Everton fans had just set off a blue flare celebrating a draw at Anfield.. ;D
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.

With all the improvement that Everton have made this year they are only 2 points away from the gap between the 2 clubs for all of last season and we're not even half way through the season and we haven't even been playing well!

are liverpool not getting a load more points though. Sounds like lies damn lies and statistics that.

And what?  The chatter all week was how Everton were now on a par with Liverpool.  The reality is that they are not.  They are as far away from each other as they ever were and not getting any closer.  I would fancy that when we hit form with the forward line we will pull even further away and 20 points of a gap by the end of the season would not be out of the realms of possibility.

It's fairly undeniable that the Toffees are a lot better than they were last year though. That draw they got an Anfield last year was a disgrace, and probably another nail in Sam Allardyce's coffin.

It depends on how you view Liverpool last year though.

This year Liverpool are doing the right things to go about landing a PL title, slightly tighter at the back, functional enough midfield with the strike force still getting just enough goals to put teams away.

IMO last year Klopp got caught up in the hype of Salah, Firmino, Mane bagging goals for fun, Roberts and TAA bombing forward almost recklessly but still dropping points to teams who sat and soaked up that pressure and struck lucky on a set piece or whatever.
No one saw Salah in particular do what he did last year and maybe its an outlier and he's reverting to sort this year, still a fine footballer all the same.

Everton are now competitive at this level, i.e. they have a go and attack even though the Arsenal game in the emirates where they lost 2-1 and the defeat to Man U they were unlucky in certain aspects of the game but really need an out and out striker to really compete, but I think they're moving in the right direction and are easier on the eye than the stuff Sam was serving up.

Maroon Manc

Didn't realise Andre Gomes was only on loan, has he been that good all season?

He's only played the last few due to an injury hampering this start at Everton.

On loan with an option to buy if Barca don't decide to take him back.

He keeps playing like that he'll be back at Barca.

Looking forward to Everton putting in the same effort and performance as they did against Liverpool, tomorrow against city
