General discussion / Re: April Jones abduction

Was there a suggestion earlier in the week that the man who has been arrested had some previous history with similar offences? The police seemed to know who they were after anyway.

It begs the question about why these men are allowed to walk the streets unmonitored with paedophiles being relocated into communities and the locals not being made aware. These hoors should be walking round with bells around their necks, not being hidden in the community.

To go slightly off topic, reading the case of Jill Meagher earlier in the week where the rapist/murderer had something like 8 previous counts of rape on his rap sheet. At what point do you say, right that's enough he's not getting out. Personally, I'd have a one strike and you're out law, or in rather and not getting out. If you can rape anyone or molest a child once, that's in you for life and no prison sentence will reform you!

As mentioned the prices are set by Apple so you won't find any variation in the price unless you're buying in the States where you can save about £50-75 compared to over here..

Eh, yes I am completely ignoring the club championship, surely this should be based on performances at County level only. By your reckoning Liam Watson should at least be nominated for player of the year then with his performances in the club All Ireland series?

Don't get me wrong, but Jamie Clarke is an outstanding talent but himself and Armagh didn't cut much mustard this year so I can't see where the nomination has came from. Maybe it's his pals in the Irish News who swing the vote for him...  ;)

How does Jamie Clarke get nominated in every All Star list going? If he sat out a season I'd still be pretty confident that he'd get his customary nomination...

McCloskey won handy enough, looked like Perez couldn't work out the southpaw stance for 6-7 rounds. McCloskey just boxed all night and didn't get involved in too much trading. Still had the hands down a bit which would be a worry against a bigger hitter but all in all a comfortable win and a step in the right direction!

Not that I am any way up on slurry pits/tanks, etc. but is there ever any legitimate reason why someone would have to enter a slurry pit after it has been built and if not could they not incorporate ventilation that is safer than a hole in the ground?

If there has to be any entrance into the pit could it not be covered with an iron grid to prevent any accidental access by man, dog, etc.

It seems awfully dangerous and silly to have an open hole that if someone fell or climbed into there's a good chance they won't come out of it.  If an environment like this existed in any other place of work health and safety would have a field day, although I appreciate that farmers probably need to strike a balance between what is practical and what is totally safe but it is life and death at the end of the day...

Found this video a while back which summed hurling up pretty well from an outsiders point of view.  Cool story too.  You can skip about the first 5-6 mins if you're in a rush but it helps build the story...  ;)

I enjoyed Marty Morrissey's commentary on Sunday, especially the point where Tommy came in and cleared a ball and Morrissey was all over hime like a rash, 'Ohhh, look at Tommy Walsh, wee Tommy bursting through the middle.  What a man...Tommy Walsh...'  I'm glad there was no camera in the commentary box, I'm pretty sure Marty had the hand down the front of the trousers every time he touched the ball!  ;)

GAA Discussion / Re: Mark Sidebottom

I've heard that much shite from Sidebottom that I don't even know if he said this at the weekend or if I made it up but did he make some reference after someone had kicked a point referring to them as, 'He's as cool as a cruise going up the Mississippi' or something along those lines.  I don't even know where I would start to imagine where or what inspired him to say that.  As cool as a cucumber, as cold as ice, ice running through his veins - anything at all like that and it would be grand and not dwelled upon, but no he has to be as cool as a cruise going up the Mississipi.  When I think of Mississipi I think of floods, alligators and Gene Hackman!?!

I have to admit the chess one got me, he kept bringing it up and McConville just kept blanking him.  I think he even asked him at one stage, you have to accept my analogy of Donegal playing chess...

It's a sorry state of affairs when the best bit of BBC commentary is when McConville says nothing after Sidebottom, just sits there and then Sidebottom just has to amble back into general commentary until the next load of horse dung falls from his mouth.

Yeah, I agree with EG.  All this talk about Khan boxing well and if he boxes smarter he can beat the better fighters.  He's going to get caught at least once throughout a fight and if he can't take those shots, a heavy handed fighter will leave him on his ass every time.

As for his comments towards Froch, he's only a bigger name because he is, or at least was, the darling of the English media.  Now that he's starting to get found out the Americans will drop him like a hot potato and when he's crawling around looking to fight lesser fighters or previous opponents, he'll soon realise he's not as hot a property as he would like to think.

I agree about his management, they all seem like gold digging and arrogant characters - a bit like Khan himself actually.  The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

On McCloskey, he doesn't have the power to batter anyone at that level.  He's great at not getting hit but as he's normally standing with his hands at his side it only takes one wrong move to get emptied, just like it happened in his last fight, although he was caught repeatedly if memory serves me right.

I was never as happy to hear Garcia's father at the press conference afterwards saying they wouldn't consider a rematch as they are moving onto bigger and better things.  Just like Khan had said at the McCloskey press conference afterwards, for all McCloskey's lack of impact in the early stages of that fight, it was a farcical decision to stop it and he probably deserved another crack at the time.

If Khan's off top level then Dudey is another ten mile off that.  Destroyed by a journey man last day out, you can't afford to fight with your hands down and not expect to get caught at that level, which is still some distance from the top level Khan has been fighting at.

McCloskey has fought like that his whole career and he probably won't change now, he only needs caught once and its game over, and he will get caught at that level, you can be sure of that!

In reality, Khan is probably just above European level, on the bottom rung of the world level with a glass jaw that has been exposed time and time again.  McCloskey is European level I think and he'll struggle to get above that both with his ability and the fights that are available to him.  I'd love to be proved wrong by McCloskey all the same, can't say the same for Khan all the same...  ;)

Suffering defeat after defeat and he hasn't really fought anyone at the very top level. He should really be dropping down to European level, another over rated Brit who got handy fights to get him where he is today. Referring to himself as a superstar during the week I believe. What a bellend.

A £2500 fine.  Really?  Is that all we can look forward to?  Why bother if you ask me, you could add another few zeroes on it and it probably wouldn't be that big a deal.

Did they not jail some chap for 6 months for racially abusing Muamba on Twitter?  I was hoping JT was going to get the same judge who presided over that case...  :(

General discussion / Re: Ulster Bank
July 03, 2012, 04:09:29 PM
I still have a student account as my main account with the Ulsterbank with about a £500 overdraft (interest free) set up on it.  I was thinking of emptying the account and setting up a new one elsewhere, leaving about £10 in the account and just let it sit there forever, if possible.

If the Ulsterbank come looking their overdraft cleared I'll tell them I think I should be able to clear it next month.  When next month comes, tell them I'm working very hard and know it's unacceptable but I will clear it as quickly as possible.  I will continue this infinitely without ever paying them back.

Is this adviseable/are they doing anything different to their own customers at the moment?

GAA Discussion / Re: The Advantage Rule
July 02, 2012, 05:02:29 PM
The problem is that referees wave advantage and sometimes the player in question still has the man hanging off him or holding his arm. The player subsequently loses the ball and no free is given even though there never really was an advantage. Very frustrating to watch...
