Trump talks about "people" all the time to try to lend his nonsense and lies an air of legitimacy. "People are saying" this or "they say" that.

Just yesterday he said ""People thought that what I said was totally appropriate" in reference to his rabble rousing of the mob to go riot at the Capitol, including to try to hunt down Mike Pence.

So in 50 years time, when someone decides that monuments to the Troubles and the Hunger Strikers are now offensive, how will people feel about their forced removal in the name of reconciliation and political correctness?

Define "someone" and "people".

Why do they need to be defined?

Because you seem to imply the statues are now controversial because some single individual just decided out of the blue one day that they were an issue to be inflicted on the "people".

Is that an incorrect interpretation?

I also like you lump reconciliation and political correctness in together. Is reconciliation illegitimate?

I didn't say the were "now" controversial

I implied that in 50 years time when viewed through a different lens (by people who were born after the troubles) in all likelihood there would be enough opposition to warrant their removal

"whitey's" post here is defending political corectness

He is saying that there should be no debate over statues

That's exactly what political correctness is

No-I'm relishing the day when those who use PC to score political points have it turned back on them

What does that even mean?

No, you are defending right wing political correctness - which is tyranny

Your entire ideology is about defending right wing political correctness/tyranny - and the celebration of it

Right-wing politics such as yours is the biggest defender of ludicrous political correctness there is

You're equating them to the confederate statues. Those ARE now controversial.

On the second point, so what?

Societies change.

You're obfuscating and deciding to remove all critical thinking

By far the most appropriate comparison to official statues and symbols which celebrate the Confederacy are official statues and symbols which celebrated Nazism

Do you think official statues and symbols which celebrate Nazism should be still in use?

Political correctness is overwhelmingly a right wing phenomenon

Republicans are Marxists....nothing to do with Hitler
Irish Republicans come from all sorts of political standpoints

US Republicans who are against the removal of Confederate statues and symbols are defending the celebration of an ideology which would be very close to that of Hitler

No they don't

Irish Republicans are overwhelmingly socialist and Marxist
You think Sinn Fein are Marxist?

Right

You really have been gone from Ireland a long time, haven't you

Marxism is a legitimate political ideology, by the way

Slavery isn't

I'm sure the tens of millions who perished in the Gulags would respectfully disagree with you
Slavery and Marxist ideology are entirely separate things

Slavery and the Confederacy are indivisible

The Condfederacy existed in order to maintain slavery

Those who argue who for Conferderate statues and symbols to remain standing are arguing in favour of the celebration of slavery

That is not a legitimate ideology

Eh....Monuments to Republicans in the 6 counties have nothing to do with the confederacy

You set up a hypothetical scenario 50 years into the future where there is opposition to monuments to people involved in the Troubles

You were clearly implying that this would be a problem - that this opposition should not be allowed - you hoped that people would answer "oh, but that's different"

You expected that I would answer a certain way, to create a bad faith "gotcha" moment for you

When I answered in the opposite way to what you expected, you were stumped

I have no idea why you compared monuments to people involved in the Troubles to Confederate monuments in the first place, as if they are in any way equivalent

Neither do you - which is why you first did exactly that, and then wondered why anybody would do that, even though had just done that exact thing

The central point here is that you clearly have a big, big problem with the removal of Confederate monuments, and instead of admitting that, you look for any sort of obfuscation to come with ludicrous "logic" as to why they shouldn't be removed

It is a demonstration of appalling ideology, appalling bad faith debating, and appalling obfuscation

The real question is why you have a problem with the removal of Confederate monuments - and that can only be explained by your rotten ideology
