Duz any of ye have any influence in getting this stuff off TV. I have heard of penance and suffering including watching paint dry and having pins stuck in your eyeballs, but as bad as it can be it is worse when Tyrone and Down are involved.  There are two commentators and you would think they were describing a state funeral. I saw a player getting a black card for touching off another player.  Finish with this rubbish and put on a good hurling game because this hour and a half of "Sport on RTE" has done more damage to the GAA than could ever be done by anyone.

Just count yourself lucky that hurling hasn't been wrecked by referees and administrators. If hurling was refereed the same way as football it would be ruined too. We had a referee on Saturday who clearly did not know the rules. He will probably get to do another big game. There are too many cards being given out and as most people knew at the outset the black card has been a shambles. Even lads trying to get a black card fail (McKeever of Armagh on Saturday) while then you get inexplicable ones handed out.

Over 100,000 attended 4 football games over the weekend.

If McKeever wanted a black card then the one thing she shouldn't have done was pull the player's jersey.

The black card isn't perfect but a bigger problem is the GAA public's inability to read and take in the rules as they are clearly written.

66,000 of which attended Dublin's latest execution. The 18,000 in Salthill was pitiful.

The sport is in serious decline.

In fairness a good few old Kildare fans returned for the day out while more Dubs turned up in expectation of a semi competitive game which it transpired to be. The Kildare fans won't return for a double header in a 2/3rds empty Croke park.

it is a bit odd going to a one sided game and then not going to a competitive game.
Kildare, Armagh, Monaghan and Down are not Cork or Derry, each would bring a reasonable crowd, making it more like a half full Croke park.
If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

Swap Down for Meath and it's a similar bill to the qualifiers at the same stage in 2014 and Croke Park was nothing like half full that evening... Mind the weather was cat also

Whether there are 60 or 60,000 at a game it doesn't make any difference, the "game" is finished, you might get away with teams like Tipperary, Dublin or Roscommon brand of football for another while but the most ye will get out of it is a few years.  Anyone who could watch an hour of Tyrone and Down is either a die hard fan or a masochist but I doubt if anyone lost a bit of their fingernails watching the excitement on TV.  Black cards, yellow cards, red cards, and hawkeye to see the size of a jaysus football because as big as it is an umpire cant see it.

The goalkeeper kicks out the ball to the twenty meter line and ye all gallop after it, passing it to each other like children out playing in a hay field after the grass getting cut.  And the referee, the poor referee, laden down with cards and watches and earpieces trying to keep up and him with his head filled with the idea that the first player he sees touching another player he will send him home with a big wave of a card then held high up over his head that you would feel sorry that all he is short of is a gun.  Peter McKenna should build a running track around the pitch and let the two teams start of in opposite directions and whoever completes ten laps first is the winner because there are teams winning finals now that have not kicked a ball over the bar from outside the 45 in an entire season.

Hurling was ruined the moment it set itself up as an elitist game only interested in five or six counties.

Unlike the good oul days when Roscommon, Louth and Tyrone were winning hurling All Irelands ::)
Jasus Syfīn you do spout some stuff.
Three elite Counties in hurling with about 100 All Irelands between them.
6 or 7 others who get a few scraps now and then.
Rest are football Counties that field Inter County hurling teams.

Hurling is far from ruined, hurling is holding the GAA together at the moment.  I see now that Armagh and Tyrone are coming to Croke Park on 5th August. Theres a nice treat for anyone into sado-masochism because there will be more excitement at the All-Ireland Road Bowls competition up at Farnaloy Road, thankfully on the same day to give people an option.  I'd love to ask Francie Bellew what he thinks of Black Cards?  I bet he would say, either the GAA do away with them or they will do away with the GAA.

Hurling is treated with far more respect in football-first counties than football is in hurling counties. You know so much, it's a wonder you missed that small fact.

Redhand Santa

No offence bud wiser but you sound like a grumpy old man. Yesterday's game wasn't great just like numerous games in the hurling. The reason it was poor for a neutral was mainly down to it being too one sided and an inevitable win for Tyrone.

Down are probably around the 12-14th best team in football. Imagine a hurling game between the 3-4 best team in Ireland and someone ranked 12-14, it would be a complete and utter waste of time. Hurling gets an easier ride as the games on tv are usually top 6/7 teams meeting each other.

For all the criticism Tyrone get they play some great football at times. They've average 23 points in this years championship, that's not far behind the dubs and they're second top scorers per game in Ireland. Some wonderful scores too. From long distance points to great team moves to chopping goal keeper. And if you watched the game you'd have seen some wonderful fielding from Tyrone around the middle who regularly went long from the kickout.

It's been a very good championship to date, better than most years. Plenty of shocks, big crowds and very high scoring. Refereeing needs looked at though as there's too many fussy refs out there.

The end to last years championship was fantastic with great games between Dublin Mayo and Kerry. This years championship looks set up for even more top games. Like every sport there'll be some poor games ahead and some crackers, take the rough with the smooth instead of trying to find fault to give out about like all the other hurling snobs.
