Maybe if Down stopped worrying about if they're 'unloved', they might get somewhere soon.....

And what had Canavan got to do with the two matches against Dublin in 2005 - the two games that turned Tyrone's season around? Lazy cliched analysis. You're obviously not a follower of the game if you didn't think that 2005 brought enjoyment and fun. Some of the games then, especially the final, were of the highest quality in years.

Glentoran fans singing 'ole' 'ole' as their players tease Utd. There it is...4-3 Glentoran.

Dunfermline 4 Utd 3
Glentoran 3 Utd 3

Was heading off on holiday when I read his comments on Fermanagh people - something like 'they don't like people but don't know why'. This week he claims the majority of Dub fans don't know their football. Could get the knuckles reddened by the editor if sales drop in certain areas as thick skins are on the wane around the country. Hard to beat thick skins. Not enough of them.

Peter's pub talk. Mark 2:

He also maintains the mental attitude of Derry and Monaghan will dictate their fortunes this weekend. Be prepared to win at all costs - don't just play well and compete. Derry's defence can curtail Dublin's attack. McCloy can handle Keaney and Lockhart should shadow Brogan. Dubs are strong in the tackle and hunt in packs. If Derry trail by 1-2 points with 10 mins left, they'll take it.

FFS yz Oak Leaf illegitimates, I know yz ken play dorty. 'Member Johnny? I fcukin do. All I'm sayin is this. The only way te bate the cocky Liffey boys is te ram it up them from the start. 'Member Mayo and the Hill? Do anything. Win at all costs. In their faces. Play nice and they'll pish all over ye. Rile Whelan. Wind up Vaughan. They'll crack like they always do.

Hard to bate a big boul of lumpy custard on its own.

I think if Peter was in the pub his words wouldn't be as restricted as in the paper.

Peter's pub translation:

1 - Going by the first 20 mins, the supporters' over-confidence of beating Meath seemed to have rubbed off on the players.
FFS, the cocky bastards got what they deserved. They only know success. I was bred on skelps and whallops from the dirtiest hoors in the country whilst losing and learned how to win the hard way. Fcukers needed a good batin.

2 - Tyrone either underestimated Meath or paid them too much respect
FFS, see above

3 - Very disheartening to see Tyrone not as fired up as they should have been, showing less hunger than Meath, esp after '96.
FFS Mickey, instil a bit a fight in them. No fcukin fire in the bellies.

4 - More than 11 player played below their full potential
FFS, what's been going on in training since the Ulster final - twas the same then.

5 - Tyrone finally nailed the Meath attack with 15 mins left but poor decision making cost them as well as erratic shooting
FFS lads, have you learned nothing from me.

6 - Dooher's leadership was badly missed towards the end. His presence would have ensured no-one panicked and not went for goals.
FFS, see above

7 - To win Sam again, Tyrone need all the injured men fit and Mickey Harte at the helm.
Gizza Job.

Peter on the Royals:

1 - Impressive forward line
2 - Meath almost paid for a 10-min period in second half when guilty of silly wides
3 - No-frills approach paid off
4 - Meath are not 'catch-and-kick' team but Coyle will enjoy that tag
5 - A lot of ball was hit early but all to the advantage of the forwards
6 - Their win fully merited and they'll be mighty confident
7 - Mentions the loudness of the roar when Meath fan took down Jackeen flag
8 - Resurgent Meath have Dubs in their sights.

Monaghan need to win 60% possession around the middle. They are match fit, Kerry aren't. Don't start slowly. Play attack-minded and have a lash, unlike Sligo. Corey at FF. Freeman/Hanratty can rattle Kerry net. Monaghan will struggle with long, direct ball to Donaghy, unless they've learnt from their league game v Meath. Kerry to win, but close.

Custard ready.

Quoteonce waited outside the Nou Camp after a game with Valencia to midnight but without success

For the love of God, Fat Tone, you're nearly 50. Poor Fiona deserves better. (as I once told her under a moonlit rampart near the Hill)

Canavan's column in the Mirror is almost a must-read whenever Tyrone are on the menu. Today he made some incisive points regarding Saturday's game - sometimes it's what he doesn't say that speaks volumes:

In summary:

1 - Going by the first 20 mins, the supporters' over-confidence of beating Meath seemed to have rubbed off on the players.
2 - Tyrone either underestimated Meath or paid them too much respect
3 - Very disheartening to see Tyrone not as fired up as they should have been, showing less hunger than Meath, esp after '96.
4 - More than 11 player played below their full potential
5 - Tyrone finally nailed the Meath attack with 15 mins left but poor decision making cost them as well as erratic shooting
6 - Dooher's leadership was badly missed towards the end. His presence would have ensured no-one panicked and not went for goals.
7 - To win Sam again, Tyrone need all the injured men fit and Mickey Harte at the helm.

He writes about Meath too but the spuds are ready.

Mark Lynch is a lad who hasn't blossomed at senior level as his underage form suggested he would. Still young I suppose. That might be because he seemed bigger in terms of height and weight at that age compared to others. Watched him at close quarters v Antrim and he still appears to be unsure as to his role, though perhaps that reflects more on Crozier. Where did he play v Laois?

That'd be some shock alright - the supposed top 3 in Ulster losing their managers!

Is Mickey the longest-serving manager in Ulster?
