General discussion / Re: Spotify
November 13, 2013, 04:45:57 PM
Just got spotify there myself this week too.
Bought one of those Sonos Play 1 yokes that came out a few weeks ago. I can see why people have a few of those sonos devices about the house.

Great bit of kit, and Spotify definitely makes it even better.

General discussion / Re: Hector and Fat Nolan

Nolan had zero personality.
He viewed Dublin as some sort of Alien World.
The only place he really knew of in Dublin was the Garden of Remembrance? Whats that about?

Hector on the Ulster Scots bit was funny. What a complete nonsense that is, and he at least he came out and said it.

A question for all the dooms day merchants who live west of the Bann like myself. What projects in our local area that are ready for commencement, by that I mean ready to put out to tender, would you have spent the money on? If the money isnt committed then it will be returned to Westminster.

I think the point is that why isn't there the stream of shovel ready schemes that seem to exist elsewhere in the east?
Castledawson-Toome, (Now postponed indefinitely)
A6 Dungiven By Pass (Now postponed indefinitely )
A6 Derry - Dungeiven (now postponed)
Derry Coleraine Railway Upgrade.  (delayed)
A5 Aughnacloy (scaled down version - delayed)
Magee University (never going to happen it seems)

Each of the above is currently not ready to go. Yet the first 4 are probably 50 years in the making. A range of "procurement issues" seem to have been flagged up recently.

As for Magee - that's a tragedy 50 years in the making.

But sure Arlene will just call us moaners.

Wesley Johnston ‏@niroads
Finance Minister: "until there is clarity on the A5 project, we cannot afford to commit contractually to the A6 project It's either the A5 or A6, but not both. So unless A5 is officially abandoned they're not doing the A6 at this point in time".

So its actually worse than most suspected. So Not only will the west not get the A5. They won't build the A6 upgrade until the A5 is binned.

You can either have 1 or the other lads. Or as is currently the Case, neither.
Bravo to the Executive. A Direct Rule minister wouldn't even have had the nerve to come up with this plan.

Scandalous stuff.
250m 100% reallocated to East Of the Bann.

If this was a decision made by Direct rule ministers, SF would have people marching on the streets. Yet they seem happy to sign off on all this stuff these days.

White water rafting the shotover river is a must.
the bus trip down Skippers Canyon Road to the start of the rafting was more nerve wrecking than the bungee jump and sky dive combined.

General discussion / Re: All Ireland Fleadh 2013 Doire
August 17, 2013, 01:29:41 PM
There was a good interview with an organiser who said it was a great occasion to introduce the fleadh to Derry people who have never experienced it and for fleadh goers to experience the recent transformation of Derry. Think that sums it up well

The town is busting at the seams with people. Atmosphere is great.

Your always gonna get people on the margins who will be against most things. But often that's just where some people want to be.

I don't know if i'll sleep tonight worrying about if UK is prefixed on the front of a piece of text in the guildhall.
Id say its definitely the number one priority issue affecting the people.

Is there any way to close the account without me having to trek to a branch in Donegal?

The politicians in the west have probably been no better than direct rule.
They seem to have no Sway in any government dept.

A6 - the 50 years delayed motorway - still waiting.
A5 - Binned
Bain Report - decentralising Gov Jobs. - Never seen light of day
Magee University - All money going to new UU Belfast Campus
Railway - Nearly binned - instead it got a stay of execution token upgrade.

My favourite political intervention was the short lived Sinn Fein - "Stand up for Derry" Campaign. must have lasted a fortnight until they realised how stupid it looked when only thing coming from Stormont to Derry was MLA's expenses.

So the main attraction in the city of culture is graffiti?

Yeah, everything painted on a wall is graffiti.  ::)

yeah can't understand that.
Given the tourist attraction that the murals and Free Derry corner is, i can't understand that decision.
there always nearly seems to be more tourists walking around the murals than the walls.

GAA Discussion / Re: Exprimental Football Rules
January 09, 2013, 10:58:47 AM
Fix the problem of continual bitching at referee's by implementing rugby style no talking back.
This will attract more people to referee and maybe increase the standard.

Switching on Sunday game and their first thing they review is the debatable yellow card or sending off is tiresome. Managers blaming everyone in sight for their own teams poor performances.
Its heading the way of soccer where referees become some sort of panto villain figures and decisions are trawled over again and again on TV.

These rules just make things harder for refs, not only do they have to decide if its a free, they now need to read the players mind and determine if it was deliberate. then categorise it!
