General discussion / Premier League 2021-22
July 12, 2021, 09:51:22 AM
Back to basics......

Starts 4 weeks Friday, the transfer market should spring into life a bit now that the circus of the Euros is over.

Obviously Liverpool to romp to a 20 point win with Big Virg back in the saddle.

Bring it on.

Only a few months since I posted the previous one of these.

Here's the obligatory guide to who can and can't win.

General discussion / The Masters 2020
November 09, 2020, 09:40:12 PM
The Masters always deserves a thread of its own, even more so in this miserable year. Going by the pics I've seen online the course might be even more beautiful at this time of year....

Hoping as ever for Rory to complete the Grand Slam but he's throwing too many errors in at the minute so it's with no great conviction. Bryson the form horse but I can't warm to him at all. Hoping for 4 exciting days...

General discussion / Microsoft for small business
August 13, 2020, 05:50:10 PM
Good folks of the forum,

The days of dodgy pirate versions of Office etc are behind me :o I'm looking for the best solution for a small company environment for having access to Microsoft Apps and each other. Two office PCs and 3 laptops on the road. I've looked online and there appear to be a myriad of options Microsoft Business, Business Premium, Web Versions downloadable versions. Can anyone tell me which option might suit the needs above.

Or whether a family version of Office (or whatever its called now) will do the job....  I suppose that is pirating in its own wee way  :D

TIA

General discussion / Jobs

This job is also with a recruitment company and online as I wouldn't be mad enough to rely solely on the good people of this forum but thinking about it last night i thought that word of mouth be good enough to at least get someone an interview.

We're looking a Project Manager for a pretty big construction project of approx six months. If anyone thinks they know anyone that fits the bill drop me a message and we'll talk.

All smart comments welcome on the thread and feel free to use thread for similar in the future.

NB - Obviously no Tyrone or Liverpool fans would be considered for the job  :)

 Don't say breathing  :)

In these times of Covid19 we are spending far more time together than we were designed for, what random irritations have surfaced in your home.

My Mrs spends far too much time doing superfluous tasks, I swear to God if she sweeps the floor again while tutting, presumably cause I've not done it, I'll lose it.

She's taken to saying "do you want to" which actually means she wants me to do something.

General discussion / Dental Tourism

Anybody got any experience of travelling abroad for major dental work? All stories welcome, good or bad  :)

I've been quoted around 10k for work here, so I'm exploring my options.

TIA.

A new date for this brings us a major in May at the frightening Bethpage Black. Most of the main protagonists are in good form bar Speith but he's tempting at 40/1 as surely he's due a return to form.

4 of our boys in the field McIlroy, Lowry, GMac and Padraig

General discussion / The Masters 2019

This is always worth a thread of its own, one of THE sporting occasions of any year... And yes the coverage is substandard compared to the usual big tournaments but that's down to the organisers not the TV companies (someone is bound to bring this up :))

Rory in supreme form thus far this season so probably the form pick but who knows

General discussion / 2019 PDC World Darts Championship
December 13, 2018, 08:01:48 PM
Got underway this evening, from a quality point of view way too long nowadays at nearly 3 weeks and having 96 entrants. But from a light entertainment when theres feck else on perspective it's brilliant.

1st of the ladies, Lisa Ashton plays tonight.

I always loved a beer from my teenage years, actually think it might have been the craic I craved rather than the actual beer but I partied hard through those years right up to my mid 30s. I never missed a day off work though or 'had' to have a drink, it never had control of me. As time went on though I found that I resented drink and felt down/anxious after taking it especially on the now less frequent occasions I overindulged but still felt socially awkward when not having a drink...

A couple of years back we had a few setbacks in our lives and during this I was diagnosed by my doctor with depression. I stopped drinking completely, wasn't hard I had nearly stopped by that stage anyways!! I'm working my way through it and doing fairly well but it has set me thinking about the role of alcohol in our lives!!

Everything we do revolves around it, I sometimes feel like a pariah for not drinking within my peer group and I know I'd be (unintentionally) left out of some gatherings because of it. Recently a close friend got married and I was invited to the stag and after having no drink for 20 months I felt I couldnt go without taking a drink, so I went and had a good drink and had a blast in fairness, I also had a drink at the wedding but now I'm happy to give it a miss again but already the cracks have started, well meaning I know, ' so youre back to being a dry shite' etc..

Is drinking too important in this country?

PS I apologise if this makes no sense I just typed it off the top of my head while trying to avoid the Late Late.

General discussion / Ryder Cup 2018
September 26, 2018, 05:26:34 PM
Might as well give it a thread of it's own.

From a betting perspective it's hard to see how the teams are ranked almost even. USA 10/11 Europe 5/4. The Ryder Cup is great viewing but Europe is an entity I can't get too excited abput, I can't imagine getting into a heated debate in the pub over Europe..

General discussion / USPGA 2018

The final Major of 2018 gets underway tomorrow in Missouri with all usual suspects in contention. 4 Irish teeing it up, or 3 if you prefer. A Spieth win sees him complete the career Grand slam.. An unusual set up for those on this side of the pond with no TV coverage (bar the dodgy box  ;), Elevensports have the rights and are showing via their website and Facebook page  :o

Rory has been very consistent lately without getting over line so I'm going for this to be the week it all clicks for him and he'll romp home. Bubba also at a big price considering the form he's in.

General discussion / Predict the Premier League
August 06, 2018, 03:03:00 PM
Folks in the spirit of the prediction competition that worked so well during the World Cup I've created a league on this site https://premierleague.predictthefootball.com/ just enter the code 684689 once you have registered. I will donate €50 to the chosen charity of the winner at the end. Its a long season and your interest could wane if not going well so there is scope for a manager of the month competition too if others want to pledge €10/€20 for each month..

The Predict the Football scoring system works as follows:

* 3 points for predicting an exact score
* 1 point for predicting the correct result (ie. you correctly predict the winner, or you correctly predict a draw, but by the wrong number of goals).
*2 point bonus for predicting the correct result if that result was predicted by less than 20% of your competitors.
*2 point bonus for predicting the exact score if that score was predicted by less than 5% of your competitors.

GAA Discussion / Video Analysis
February 26, 2018, 01:16:26 PM
Have any of you coach types used this for video analysis or know would it be easy to tailor to GAA?

www.coach-logic.com

The club manager is interested in getting a bit of analysis done and this seems cheaper than the bespoke GAA options?

General discussion / 50th Birthday
December 03, 2017, 11:02:56 PM
There's 3 of us hitting the big 5-0 towards the end of next year and we're looking to mark the occasion by doing something out of the ordinary. All well travelled, family men with plenty of 'life' experiences, would be willing to travel and spend a few quid if necessary but not essential. Vegas has been mentioned but I'd like to do something less obvious although I will go if I have to  ;D

Any suggestions?? Probably 4/5 days max would be the only restriction.

The Dublin bombings in 1974, so I'd have been around six. It was a much different time and information would have been sketchy at best. I think they were breaking into the tv schelude every now and then with updates. I remember worried faces in my house, my father had 2 brothers in the Civil Service in Dublin and I found out years later that he knew that they'd get their buses home in Parnell St. Every so often he'd go out to the hall to make a phone call to ring and see was there any news.

It was terrifying to a young lad like me that didn't really understand what was happening..

I'm surprised this hasn't reared its head, or maybe it has and I've missed it if so apologies...

Opinions? I'm not a fan of his at the best of times and obviously what he said was crass but really this have gone too far its trial by social media at this stage?
