General discussion / Belfast Giants Ice Hockey
January 16, 2011, 07:32:57 PM
Was at the Belfast Giants ice hockey last night in the odyssey as the woman won tickets:

Pro's

-It was free.
-We had great seats
-We ordered a large fanta, popcorn and large packet of Tayto cheese and onion from the snack stand.  I went to pay for it but the girl behind the counter went and served someone else and never came back to me even though i was standing there with the wallet,  I eventually walked off so free snacks!!!
-They was 3/4 fights in the game
-There is a pizza hut in the oddessy and we had a 50% off voucher which we put to use after the game.
-The oven in pizza hut broke down shortly after we got our feed so a pile of people had to leave without food to which I was able to look smug with my food in front of me
-There where some fit cheerleaders
-They do some good free giveaways, flights, a 6ft sub sandwich!!!, music vouchers etc
-Seen Kirsty from Cool FM for the first time, id probably give her one
-When the game was over, there was plenty of short skirts on show walking about the oddessy
-This song was played everytime the giants scored, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DjGMOAjdQQ.  Great TUNE.

Cons

-Ice hockey is pretty much an abortion of a sport
-Its takes over 2 hours to play an hours match.
-The jerseys are a complete sight!  How many sponsor logo's can fit onto one jersey!!  Also, they only must come in XXL
-Typical American typed sport.  All filler, no killer IMO
-It was easy to miss parts of the game because of what was happening in the crowd, free giveways etc, i actually missed a goal because I was looking at something else.
-There was a stupid man dressed as a subway sandwich going round shaking peoples hands!! WTF!!!
-They was 3/4 fat cheerleaders!!!!???!!!  WTF!!!!
-There was a man who must have been around late 30's on his own at the game going crazy.  He kept talking to a girl beside him who had absolutely no interest in what he was saying!
-The same man indulged in probably the most cringest thing ive ever seen between 2 men.  After the Giants scored, he went to 'high five' the guy in front whilst the guy in front went to do the ole knocking together of closed fist salute (http://static-p4.fotolia.com/jpg/00/04/90/19/400_F_4901987_hVcSFSLtjZHjfAHxK9CZfTNQYQok5a5c.jpg) and in the end up he was just holding his closed fist.  Very cringy.

Overall, I wouldn't ever pay to get tickets to see this again but it passed an evening especially when it was free.  There are genuine fans out there who support the team, I felt a bit out of place not cheering as just couldnt really get into it.  In the end up I sort of was supporting the Nottingham Panthers just so it would disappoint the fanatics around me, I can be like that.

It was pretty funny hearing some man shout behind me though 'get away home er that referee, your a complete joke!!'  Thought I was at a local club game for a minute!

Anyway, GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

General discussion / Dentists in Belfast
January 05, 2011, 12:48:02 PM
Have not been to the dentist since I was about 18, eight years ago so I think it would be best if I got a check up!  Dont like dentists because the last time i went my teeth where fine but after the dentist 'worked' on them, i was in pain for a week and had to go back.

Anyway, anyone know or recommend any good dentist's in the Belfast area that doesnt charge an arm and a leg?  Will need a check up & clean and then probably work done after that.

Also, what is the craic with NHS dentist's?  Is there any of these around Belfast and can anyone use them?  I believe they are half the price of a private dentist?

One thing that annoys me about dentist's when im on the subject is that they always make you out to be a complete idiot when it comes to brushing your teeth no matter what your age is  >:(

General discussion / Talking to the Dead
October 26, 2010, 10:03:54 AM
I see all these posters up round the towns advertising some "Mystic" who can talk to the dead relatives and friends in the audience.  Was talking to a person who attended such a function in Enniskillen and they reckoned it was amazing and that this "mystic" was the real deal and really talking to the dead.  Ive never heard such shite in my life to be honest and dont buy into it for a minute, think it is just like magic show or some other form of entertainment but there are people out there who truely believe in this tripe.  Has anyone ever been to one of these shows?

General discussion / Pure Gym, Béal Feirste
October 18, 2010, 11:04:49 AM
See there is a Pure Gym opening next month in Belfast, £12.99 per month, no contract, open 24 hours a day.  Cant really argue with that.  Ive cancelled my agreement with LA Fitness as its was near £40 per month and during the summer months wasnt really using it and when the football season is in full flow, its hard to get to the gym and train 2 nights a week with the club.  LA Fitness good gym but too expensive in my opinion, would need to be going 3/4 times a week to get the value out of it.

Anyone signed up to it yet or used any of the clubs in England?  Assume it should grand lak.

Anyone ever been on one of those driving experience days where you get to drive a Ferrari or Lamborgine (sp).  Would like to head away for the weekend at the end of the month and as a birthday gift would like to include something like this.  Anyone any reviews or suggestions where to go or where to start looking for one of these experience days as they are called?

GAA Discussion / Thanks for the memories Ryan
August 12, 2010, 06:21:36 PM
Word coming from his close friends is that Ryan 'Ricey' McMenamin willl call time on his intercounty career at the Tyrone meeting next Monday night.

Think we should all take the time and go through Ricey's best moments.

General discussion / The Spider
August 06, 2010, 09:24:12 AM
Last night I was standing in the shower, I was washing my hair with VO5 Shampoo. Obviously when shampooing my hair I had my eyes closed, after rinsing my hair I opened my eyes to see a small house spider on the wall on front of me. There was water splashing from the shower and the spider was hanging on for dear life. At one stage it was clinging on by one leg. It battled back to get stable, I was so amazed by its will to survive that I splashed a bit more water to see how much he wanted it. Again the spider pulled through. He climbed out of trouble to the promise land at the top of the shower.

Tonight Matthew, I want to be that spider.............

Bookies left red-faced by Laois punters
28 July 2010
Bookmaking firm Paddy Power was stung for over €2,500 last weekend after GAA punters in Laois bet on a club senior hurling championship tie after the game had finished.

The Irish Examiner reports that Paddy Power had the weekend game down for a 7.30pm throw-in but the match threw in at 2pm instead. Fans watched Castletown beat Borris-in-Ossory by 3-16 to 2-11 before then backing the winners at 1/3.
Staff in Paddy Power became aware of the situation on Sunday evening because of an unusual amount of activity on the game, but agreed to pay out.

"It was a c**k-up on our behalf," Paddy Power Communications Manager Ken Robertson admitted.

"Hopefully it won't happen again."

General discussion / Drinking on a Sunday?
June 28, 2010, 11:21:11 AM
Does many people here take much drink on a Sunday, even with work the next day?

Went to the BOT last night with a mate for a few Sunday night pints to get out of the house and to look around us.  We took it easy obviously as we where both working this morning, however, the amount of people that was full of drink on a Sunday night was surprising, i was thinking, do these people not have work in the morning or are they happy enough to take a rip of stuff and just go in dying on to work on a Monday morning?  I think Mondays are bad enough without tyring to put the day in at work with a hangover.  Know there was a lot of sport on yesterday but seems to be a reuglar occurance on a Sunday night for a lot of people!

General discussion / Spit or Swallow??
June 04, 2010, 11:35:40 AM
Well, which is it?

Personally I always swallow, people say it isn't good for you but I can't help myself, think its just a force of habit.  I have found myself doing it about 10 minutes ago there and just realised Ive done it 3 times in the last 2 days  :o  I always enjoy the aftertaste as it goes down my throat, its usually surprisingly refreshing.  I really know I should spit it out but I just can't help myself, I'm a swallower  :-\ .  I hope it doesn't do me any long term damage but i do worry slightly that it might, maybe I should just give it up altogether but I love chewing gum, its apparently good for your teeth and all so I dont want to jeopardise my dental hygiene just because of my habit.

Anyway, interested to hear is there any swallower's out there or are the majority spitters and what is the benefit of spitting out over swallowing?

Biggest fight of the year thus far so suppose maybe deserves a thread of its own.  Should be an interesting one, Mosley impressed greatly in his last bout against Margarito but that was nearly a year ago, he seems pretty confident of a victory and still looks in good shape for his age.

Always love watching Mayweather box though and this should be good to see how he approaches this one against a naturally bigger and solid welterweight.  He always gets criticised for ducking certain fighters and taking easier ones, ie Marquez, Hatton who where way samller than him in the end.  He hasnt fought anyone as natural a welterweight as Oscar DLH so this one could be worth getting up late in the night for.  Mayweather first defeat perhaps??  I hope not!

Also, anyone watching those HBO 24/7 shows?  Always a great build up to a big fight with the way the follow the 2 fighters around their training camps.

General discussion / Red Bull = Pure Poison
March 09, 2010, 04:37:10 PM
Shocking reports on red bull below.  Mix it with your VoLka and your sure to die at some stage.

France & Denmark have banned it from their country...
>
> RED BULL - slow death ...
> Do NOT drink this drink anymore!!
>
> Pay attention; read it all
>
> As a public health safety, please pass on this email to all the contacts in
> your address book especially those with teenage children?
> This drink is SOLD in all the supermarkets IN OUR country and our children
> ARE CONSUMING IT ON A TRIAL BASIS, IT can be fatal.
>
> RED BULL was created to stimulate the brains in people who are subjected to
> great physical force and in stress coma and never to be consumed like an
> innocent drink or soda pop.
>
> RED BULL IS the energizer DRINK that is commercialized world-wide with its
> slogan:' It increases endurance; awakens the concentration capacity and the
> speed of reaction, offers more energy and improves the mood. All this can be
> found in a can of RED BULL , the power drink of the millennium.
>
> 'RED BULL has managed to arrive at almost 100 countries worldwide. The RED
> BULL logo is targeted at young people and sportsmen, two attractive segments
> that have been captivated by the stimulus that the drink provides.
>
> It was created by Dietrich Mateschitz, an industrialist of Austrian origin
> who discovered the drink by chance. It happened during a business trip to
> Hong Kong , when he was working at a factory that manufactured toothbrushes.
>
> The liquid, based on a formula that contained caffeine and taurine, caused a
> rage in that country. Imagine the grand success of this drink in Europe
> where the product still did not exist, besides it was a superb opportunity
> to become an entrepreneur.
> BUT THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS DRINK IS ANOTHER THING:
>
> FRANCE and DENMARK have just prohibited it as a cocktail of death, due to
> its vitamin components mixed with GLUCURONOLACTONE', a highly dangerous
> chemical, which was developed by the United States Department of Defense
> during the sixties to stimulate the moral of the troops based in VIETNAM,
> which acted like a hallucinogenic drug that calmed the stress of the war.
>
> But their effects in the organism were so devastating, that it was
> discontinued, because of the high index of cases of migraines, cerebral
> tumors and diseases of the liver that was evident in the soldiers who
> consumed it.
>
> And in spite of it, in the can of RED BULL you can still find as one of its
> components: GLUCURONOLACTONE, categorized medically as a stimulant. But what
> it does not say on the can of ,RED BULL are the consequences of its
> consumption, and that has forced us to place a series of WARNINGS:

1. It is dangerous to take it if you do not engage in physical exercise
afterwards, since its energizing function accelerates the heart rate and can
cause a sudden attack.

2. You run the risk of undergoing a cerebral hemorrhage, because RED BULL
contains components that dilute the blood so that the heart utilizes less
energy to pump the blood, and thus be able to deliver physical force with
less effort being exerted.

3. It is prohibited to mix RED BULL with alcohol, because the mixture turns
the drink into a " Deadly Bomb " that attacks the liver directly, causing
the affected area never to regenerate anymore.

4. One of the main components of RED BULL is the B12 vitamin, used in
medicine to recover patients who are in a coma; from here the hypertension
and the state of excitement which is experienced after taking it, as if you
were in a drunken state.

5. The regular consumption of RED BULL triggers off symptoms in the form of
a series of irreversible nervous and neuronal diseases.

CONCLUSION: It is a drink that should be prohibited in the entire world as
when it is mixed with alcohol it creates a TIME BOMB for the human body,
mainly between innocent adolescents and adults with little experience

General discussion / Leisure Centres in Belfast
January 14, 2010, 07:59:03 PM
Can anyone recommend any good leisure centres where you can go in for a swim or book a court for badminton or the likes in the Belfast area without having to be a member of the centre?  Something like Omagh lesiure centre or Enniskillen Lakeland forum where you can book in advance or just call in, pay at the desk and go for a swim?
