I am wiling to run this competition this year if that is OK. Enter via the website and then send me your details so I can pass it on to the GL.  This will probably take a week or two for the GL to publish our table as i will have to give them your poster name instead of real name.

See this in todays Irish Star, there is €10,000 up for grabs for first prize. Its a harder than think as it runs for both the league and championship and you have to pick players from all four divisions, although you get to transfer seven players after the league is over.

Teams Selection
Picking Players

Pick 15 players. there are three rules you must obey when picking your players for your team.
1. DIVISIONS

You must pick
- 6 Players from Division 1
- 4 Players from Division 2
- 3 Players from Division 3
- 2 Players from Division 4
2. COUNTIES

You may only pick a maximum of four players from each county.
3. POSITIONS

You must pick
-1 Goalkeeper (GK)
-6 defenders (D)
-2 Midfielders (MF)
-6 Forwards (F)

Transfers

There will be a transfer window between the League and Championship (dates TBC and will depend on future changes). In this window you will be allowed to transfer a maximum of 7 players.

Scoring
   GK    BK    MF    FW
Defensive Clean Sheet(no goals scored against)    +6    +4    +2    +1

'Body sold' to Russia kebab shop

Police in Russia have arrested three homeless men suspected of killing a man, eating part of the body and selling other parts to a kebab shop.

The men were held in the city of Perm, some 1,400km (870 miles) east of Moscow, local investigators said.

Their statement said that the suspects had targeted the 25-year-old victim out of "personal hostility".

It was not clear when the incident occurred. The men - who have not been named - have been charged with murder.

The investigators said on Friday that the body of the man had been found in a forested area near a public transport stop in Perm.

They said the three men attacked their victim with knives and a hammer.

"After carrying out the attack, the corpse was dismembered. Part of it was eaten and part was also sold to a kebab and pie kiosk," their statement said.

It was not immediately clear if any customers had been served.

GAA Discussion / New dublin sponsor
November 01, 2009, 09:56:49 PM
It must be a sign of the times when dublin still have not got a new sponsor in place. I would reckon a few years ago they could have had their pick of sponsors willing to part with the eight hundred thousands euro they are looking.

How many new dublin shirts could they have sold as christmas presents if they had this sorted

Community would back shooting-to-kill, says Paisley Jnr

19/08/2008 - 18:01:02

A police shoot-to-kill policy against dissident republican terrorists would be accepted by the community in the North, Policing Board member Ian Paisley Jnr claimed today.

Paisley Jnr said people would support the use of lethal force to wipe out the threat posed by groups such as the Real IRA.

SDLP policing board member Dolores Kelly described Mr Paisley's remarks as "dangerous nonsense" while Sinn Féin's Daithi McKay also hit out at the comments.

"Clearly Ian Paisley Jnr hasn't learnt anything from the history of the last 40 years," he said. "This is the type of corner boy approach to politics we have come to expect from Paisley Óg."

"What unionist leaders, and in particular the DUP, need to demonstrate is they're prepared to share power with nationalists and republicans on the basis of equality rather than appealing to lowest common denominator."

The Democratic Unionist Assembly member's remarks come after the latest dissident attempt to murder police officers in the region.

On Saturday three Police Service of Northern Ireland officers escaped injury in a rocket attack in the Co Fermanagh border town of Lisnaskea.

Renegade republicans have been blamed for seven other murder attempts on officers in the last year.

The "shoot-to-kill" issue was highly contentious during the Troubles, with the police and British Army, in particular the SAS, accused of implementing it.

Mr Paisley claimed people would now accept it as necessary to finally crush the dissident threat.

"Sooner or later there will be a murder of a police officer unless the police are able to deploy ruthlessness in tracking down and wiping out these dissident members," said the North Antrim MLA.

"I believe the community will accept such measures and if dissidents are shot on sight, the community will accept that it is a necessary use of lethal force to prevent dissident republicanism from growing.

"Finally, given the seriousness of this most recent murder attempt, I believe the (Stormont) executive ought to ensure that a full discussion on the security situation must take place with a view to ensuring every encouragement is given to the police and army in the eradication of dissident republicans."

Yesterday police chiefs revealed that the explosives used in Saturday's rocket attack contained Semtex originally owned by the IRA.

Two officers were on patrol on Main Street, Lisnaskea, while a third was in a nearby police vehicle when a man stepped from a white Ford Escort and aimed an improvised rocket launcher at them.

They dived for cover and escaped after suffering shock and minor injuries when the device failed to detonate.

Mr Paisley has called for an inquiry to establish how the dissidents got their hands on the powerful Czech-made explosive and if they have access to more.

Semtex, much of it secured from General Gaddafi's Libya, was one of the main weapons employed by the IRA when it was active. The IRA claimed to have decommissioned its arsenal in 2005.

Mr Paisley said: "There are some crumbs of comfort that the weapons deployment has been botched, or else, more likely, dissidents have been infiltrated and at the last moment the explosives undermined and therefore lives saved.

"However, we cannot always rely upon infiltration and treachery within the ranks of the dissidents to undermine their activity."

General discussion / Nuala O'Loan

Thought these days were behind us, heard her on Radio Ulster today as she stood by her comments.

Outrage over O'Loan 'slur on Protestants'

Published Date:  15 August 2008
By Stephen Dempster

DAME Nuala O'Loan has sparked outrage by telling a national radio programme that it was her understanding Protestants were brought up to distrust Catholics.

The former Police Ombudsman told a BBC Radio Four programme: "One of the things that surprised me, because I grew up in England, was that people here (Northern

Ireland], Protestants – and I only learned this fairly recently... Protestants would have been taught as children that they could not trust Catholics.

"I found that astonishing but when I explored it with Protestant friends, they all agreed that was the case."

The News Letter was made aware of the remarks by listeners to the Woman's Hour programme who were "deeply offended" at Mrs O'Loan's remarks.

One said: "Most people in the Protestant community would be outraged because this is not the case at all."

Contacted last night, Mrs O'Loan stood by what she had said, but sought to clarify her position – stressing it was what she had been told and that other Protestants had confirmed it.

"I could never understand why it mattered that I was a Catholic Police Ombudsman, it baffled me," she told the News Letter.

"But eventually I was told this was the teaching of some churches to their people and that meant I could understand a lot of what has been said about me."

During a lengthy discussion on the matter, Mrs O'Loan said she was sorry if her radio remark was deemed offensive "but I simply report what was said to me".

"What I said was what I was told and I checked it with other senior people in society and I was told this is true and I said I found it astonishing," she continued.

Asked why she had not clarified or said that "some" Protestants may be brought up to distrust Catholics, Mrs O'Loan reflected that she personally "would not expect all Protestants" were brought up this way and that is why she said she was astonished.

"But I was told by Protestants that they were and I checked it and checked it and checked it," she declared.

When it was put to Mrs O'Loan how her remark would reflect on the Protestant community in the Province, to listeners to the Radio Four programme across the UK and worldwide, she said that she had not had time on the Woman's Hour programme to get into further discussion or add clarification, as the interview was then drawn to its scheduled close.

The ex-Ombudsman's comments follow those of other senior figures in the Catholic community about Protestants in recent years.

In 2005, at a public meeting, Father Alec Reid compared the unionist community to Nazis.

"They (Catholics] were not treated like human beings," he said. "It was like the Nazis' treatment of the Jews."

The same year, Irish President Mary McAleese also compared Protestants to Nazis.

"They (Nazis] gave to their children an irrational hatred of Jews in the same way that people in Northern Ireland transmitted to their children an irrational hatred, for example, of Catholics, in the same way that people give to their children an outrageous and irrational hatred of those who are of different colour and all of those things," she said.

Later Mrs McAleese said she had not meant to single out Protestants.
However, last night, UUP MLA David McNarry said all of these remarks, from within the Catholic community, exposed a nationalist or republican view that Protestants were inherently sectarian and bigoted while Catholics were non-sectarian and egalitarian.

"Nuala O'Loan's remarks are very reminiscent of what Mary McAleese said about people being taught to hate or distrust Catholics and these are broad, sweeping generalisations which are deeply hurtful and offensive to all right-thinking Protestants who will not recognise them to be the case at all," he said.

DUP MLA Mervyn Storey added: "Remarks like this only serve to show why Nuala O'Loan was herself distrusted by the unionist community (as Ombudsman]."

In her conversation with the News Letter last night, Mrs O'Loan concluded: "I think that as a society we need to be able to reflect on all the possible cases of divisiveness."

If, as a result of an open discussion on these issues, it emerged that some churches taught this distrust of Catholics "we need to talk about it and work it out because we all worship the same God"
