Coincidentally there is an excellent article in the current edition of Alive (read by all good Irish catholics but very few on this Board I'd say) featuring this young man's courage and faith (obviously written before he died), and contrasting his belief in God with that of the late Nuala O'Faolain who died without any belief in an afterlife.
