Quarter final

June 21st Sligo v Galway - Markievicz Park

Semi finals

June 28th Roscommon v Leitrim - Hyde park
June 28th Sligo/Galway v Mayo - Pearse stadium/Markievicz Park

Final

July 13th  -----------  v -------------  -  Pearse stadium/MacHale Park

9 days from the start of this championship no real expectations with our crop this year only 4 starters left from last year our U-16 teams in 2012,13 were less than great and at schools levels it was one of our worst years however with the same management team as last year you never know.

Galway current favourites for the Connacht title. Were very close to winning back to back Connacht minor league titles. They have the pick of the two Galway sides that reached Ted Webb final two years ago and sure to have a few from the Mountbellew school team that won a Connacht title.

Sligo good at schools level again this year St. Attractas reached the Connacht final beating
St. Jarlaths along the way and Summerhill just missed out on the final. Sligo pushed us and Mayo all the way at minor level the last two years.

Mayo don't seem to be at the level of last year only one win in the minor league (against us) but their school team St. Geralds won back to back Connacht titles and one of their teams won the Ted Web cup last year.

Leitrim won the minor league this spring beating Galway,Mayo,Sligo and ourselves along the way their U-16s teams were fairly handy the last two years. Its the best Leitrim minor team since the early 90s and the least of their expectations will be beating us in the semi final.

The Connacht finalists will play Ulster opposition in the All Ireland quarter finals.

Just 12/13 days away, time to get this thread up and running. For us to progress we must get promoted this year but as ever this will be a real dogfight division & it won't surprise me if a unfancied side gain promotion, Wexford at 6/1 look good value.

10 days from the start of this championship we are going for 3 in row but are only 3rd in the odds. Arguably we don't have the panel of last the two years but now have better management.

Galway having won the minor league and every game are the favourites plus they have the pick of a few Tedd Webb cup winning teams.

Mayo stronger looking Mayo side than last few years with more scoring forwards under new management and school sides have performed well.

Sligo got within a few points of Mayo last year will be looking to improve on that this year and with St. Attractas All-Ireland B champions to pick from they will be tough to beat.

Leitrim Well beaten by Mayo in the league maybe they can give a better account of themselves in the championship.

So this championship gets underway in 9 days time. Us having won last years championship & the league in April will be favourites but the favourites tag rarely sit well with us, in 2007 we were highly fancied but Galway went on to win Connacht & the All Ireland.

As for the others..

Sligo their school teams did really well in the Connacht championship this year, in 2010 they had a decent U-16 team faced us in the Ted Webb cup final & won Fr. Manning Cup.

Mayo will be determined to win back the Connacht title. Hard to judge them on league form as they rarely played the same team. Before last year Mayo won three in row Connacht titles would be foolish to write them off.

Galway With some key players to return like Cunningham,McCormack,Meeneghan they will be a different outfit than the one we defeated in the league. One of their teams won the Ted Webb cup last year & St. Jarlaths won another Connacht title last Feb.

Leitrim Judging by their last two league results they are much improved from last year but would be a huge disappointment if we don't defeat them.

Promises to be a good championship shame no back door like in Munster or leinster but the two that come out of Connacht will give the All Ireland series a good rattle.

The first game of the 2012 football championship. Sligo off the back three league wins in a row are in decent form before flying out but the favourite tag rarely sits well with them. For those that fancy a flutter New York 9/1 draw 20/1 Sligo 1/33

Yeats County take on Big Apple in Championship Opener
The All Ireland Senior Football Championship begins less than ten days from now with the contest between Sligo and New York in the opening round of the Connacht Championship. This year will mark New York's 13th year in the Senior Football Championship and hopes are high in the Big Apple that this year could be the year the Exiles claim their first ever Championship win.

Sligo will be this years opponents and will make the long journey to Gaelic Park in the Bronx next Sunday to take on the Exiles in what promises to be a packed stadium for the occasion. Sligo last travelled to New York in 2007 where they recorded a facile win over the Exiles, however they also hold the unwanted record of being the only team to lose an FBD Final stateside when they were defeated by the New Yorkers in 2004. The Yeatsmen will look to their twin attacking threats of Adrian Marren and Mark Breheny to provide the scores and have looked impressive throughout the league campaign recording wins over Roscommon, Offaly, Tipperary and Wexford. The return of Eamon O'Hara from injury promises to boost Sligo's chances in this encounter.

New York will have it all to do if they are to record a famous win in Gaelic Park. The team is captained by Tyrone native, Errigal Ciaran's own Ronan McGinley and contains a mixture of seasoned campaigners in the New York colours, new additions to the squad and a host of Irish American players looking to represent their native county. Under the tutelage of Connie Molloy and Mickey Coleman (a former All Ireland Winner himself with Tyrone) the team have worked hard throughout the winter months and will be sure to rattle the 2007 Connacht Champions.

Only two days before the big two collide head on it's time to remind Mayo/Galway fans no silverware will be given out on Sunday & the real Connacht final is on July 17th.

So Mayo it is.
#16
Ok we started off this Championship with a comprehensive win over New York in April but the real deal starts in a little over a week.

It's looking like a very competitive championship this year though obviously Mayo having won three in row Connacht titles will be the team to beat.

25th June Sligo v Galway  Markievicz Park
26th June Mayo v Roscommon McHale Park
2nd July Leitrim v Sligo/Galway Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada
17th July ---------- v-------------- Dr Hyde Park
#17
It's almost time again for that tacky shite however can the twins win it?

Daniela & Veronika Nízlová from Slovakia

Big U21 semi final this Sat! not many Cork/Galway posters on here but we'll see how this thread goes?

Best of luck Galway.

So our first defense of the Connacht title is only a few weeks away, New york are steadily improving & reading reports the yanks sure don't seem to lack confidence.

Our last visit was under the guidance of the tanned one in 2006 we managed to come away with a 8pt win.

Any views on the big match in the big apple?
