Sick to my stomach when I seen this thread... I can only imagine how he must have felt and how his family and friends are now. Words don't cover some things...

I just find this whole 'representing your country' schtick from the players a bit shallow.
They should feel in no way inferior just because gaelic football does not have a true international dimension.
I doubt Tom Brady of the New England Patriots or Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees lie awake at night dreaming of the day they get to represent the USA in football or baseball.
A lot of players are moaning now that Michael Murphy is being forced to choose between a championship final with his club and playing in the makey-uppey rules series.
Some of them would want a reality check.

Let's not get to comparing the size of our schticks.

I'm sure if the US got American Football on the Olympic schedule the likes of Tom Brady would be happy enough to tag along.

Yeah but it wont and you don't see them making up hybrid games just for the sake of it.

I wouldn't be so sure about that Tommy...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmcTGvBFMVM

Great result for the dual parish   :) I imagine there were a lot of accumulators that went down with that result!

Fair play to Gerard. I have no vested interests in retail of any kind but I feel he has raised some good points about the thought process of GAA/GPA on this one. I hope he get's a response and that it gets a public airing.

Thanks Nephinman... Maybe the clubs were taking it easy and we're gunna knock them off their perch one at a time?!  ::) :D

It looks like we're being led into the storm by a captain that everyone wants to mutiny against...

Just like this country after the bluster that came out on television  :) (Ah no, Enda's not that bad...)

Will anything of substance happen at this meeting tonight or will it just be the status quo again?

The most over-hyped commercially sponsored money-fest in GAA history.

These guys are laughing all the way to the bank and the poor oul Ulster tourists who have nothing better to do in Dublin of a Saturday fall for it every year hook line and stinker!

So of course we will win it ....

Leo thats an awful statement...the sevens is a wonderful competition full of tradition and friendship. Don't knock it till you try it

Did anyone hear the rumour that Joe Cooney from Galway is in line for the job........

the hurling job that is!  :D

A Tooreen a parallel Mayo Universe, maybe ye got it right with yer sport of choice.

A parallel universe is right...But we also turn out more minor footballers than most football clubs so we can claim to live in everyone else's world at the same time... We just have a liking for smaller balls!

Any update on the Connacht center of Excellence Has construction started?
no the slog and ross lads here  object put the kibosh on the whole thing
even though its much closer to most of them than to much of mayo anyway. I mean very few of us consider ballyhaunis really mayo anyway

Ya themselves and the Toreen boys run around with long flat sticks and small baseball/cricketball type yokes, very un-Mayolike.

It's Tooreen...get it right if your going to attempt to poke fun at us. ;)
is tooreen a real place? only place i know around there is cloonfaughna(spell checker seem to think that's wrong)

hell yeah sure tooreen used to have a famous ballroom/nightclub back in the late 60s early 70s had to be closed down after the rumor that the devil made a visit one night

It has a pub, a (shut down) post office, a church and one of the finest small club set up's around... If only those lads up in Aughamore could run things aswell we'd have a mighty little parish!  :P

Mayo / Re: Mayo Football and Hurling - Discussion pages

Lads would ye not be getting excited... I mean it is clear that well over half the team that played on th u21 side the last day won't be on th team when Championship comes around. Dempsey will have 20 different lads there next week. And on the senior side there was possibly only two that have any chance of playing senior for Mayo in the League or Championship
