Is the Derry straight red as a result of contact with the eye?

Yes and Padraic Joyce was fairly irate about it afterwards. Disgusting carry on. Comer was taken off as a precaution with a tight hamstring, if that's the case the sensible thing to do would be to rest him next week you'd think.

What did Conroy do to get the red does anyone know? From listening to PJ it's going to appealed.

Last nights episode was very good, Kieran Fitzgerald came across very well.

He's an absolute gentleman and I think the episode portrayed that very well. Laochra Gael really highlights the fact that you never know what a player on the pitch is going through off it, we forget sometimes these players are private individuals off the field with problems and trauma of their own to deal with.

I think he could do with replacing Ger Brennan though, he drones on and on, isn't a good speaker and not all that insightful either imo.

Oh agree completely, if he had anything interesting to say you could excuse the fact that he's not a good speaker but his points are generally nonsense as well. Cian Ward is excellent in comparison.

Just in the door from Pearse Stadium.
It's hard to put into words just how bad Meath were today.
Conditions were obviously dreadful of course but still and all.
Galway played well - should really have had another 4 goals. Rob Finnerty could easily have had a hat trick. But Meath were so bad you almost have to write off this game as a one off.
We were trying to figure out in the stands who Galway might have played in the last ten years that were worse than that Meath outfit, couldn't think of anyone as bad, the most abject team I've seen come to Galway in years.
Galway were decent but learned little from today, Sean Kelly is a serious bit of stuff but we knew that already, McDaid had his best outing in a long time but still a good few handling errors in the brutal conditions, Galway can get away with Finnerty butchering the goal chances today but we need to be more ruthless with those opportunities against the better teams. Culhane nabbed the poachers goal but outside of that everything that could have gone wrong did for him unfortunately, he's still very young and has loads to improve on. Great to see John Daly out there again, a key man for Galway in my opinion, hope he gets a clear injury free run now.

Really can't take much from that game though, Meath were absolutely abysmal and Galway won't play anyone as bad again this year.

Agreed, thought Molloy had a great game too even though he hadn't too much to do defensively. Meath were shocking.

The referee made a huge mistake at the end but still doesn't give Mountbellew Moylough free rein to go after him the way some of them did. Barry McHugh is looking at a big ban you'd think along with the keeper and who knows how many more. Easy blame the loss on the ref and that one decision but in fairness both teams had plenty of chances to win it before that and MM didn't take their opportunity.

Maybe they'll improve 2nd half but Corofin have showed nothing in that 1st half as to why they are favourites for the Connacht and All Ireland championships.

Corofin weren't really even favourites for today's game locally so I think that's lazy on behalf of those who decide those odds! MM much the better team today and in fact reminded me of the way Corofin won many of their games in previous years. Fair play to them, they're a long time waiting for this one and have come close many times. This corofin team is definitely in transition, no Gary
Sice, Ian Burke today and Mike Farragher didn't get much game time. No doubt they made hay while they had the players but still will be there or thereabouts with the young talent they have coming through.

It's not this year in isolation, you look at counties that are having success, there are competent county boards in place who put the structures in place for that success. Sure money helps but would a multimillionaire with money to pump into Galway GAA be confident where that money was going to end up or what it would be used for? Not too long since Pat McDonagh was looking for the receipts.
The massive increase in club match revenue across the board once they had to go all ticket after the audit was incredible it was such a leap, a total scandal really and not much made of it.

I'm sure hurling folk will say otherwise and I appreciate that it's probably the bigger game in the county but, when you look at the Loughgeorge situation what was a football only facility and is now shared, where the source of all the debt that Galway have right now came from in the first place, football in the county has been rode sideways by hurling side. That's not to excuse the football board at all because there is loads that could be done at that end. The current football panel and management, are they as top level as they should be? I look at the Mayo and Kerry games after the lockdowns, these are laughing stock performances. The early form of league 2020 was a mirage, everything since has been awful, Mayo weren't even that really good in the CF and still absolutely coasted home, at one stage near the end a Mayo player tapped over a point rather than bothering to stick the goal it was so well in hand. Once Shane Walsh was no longer a factor to cause a bit of chaos with individual brilliance as in the first half, Galway had nothing, fitness looked suspect, how is that even possible these days given the levels the competition are at?

Others are way better informed than me, maybe I'm talking shite but to an average punter the whole thing looks brutal bad, cannot afford to be a two bob operation at any level to have success these days, Galway are as two bob as it gets at the minute.

I used to think we were a bit paranoid in the football part of the county regarding the hurlers getting preferential treatment/funding/resources lately but having heard Paul Bellew, the hurling board chairman doing the rounds on the airwaves the last couple of days I think it's fair to say football is a poor relation in Galway now. He couldn't say enough about all the funding and resources going into the hurlers along with at least 9 people involved in the S and C of all the teams coming up through the ranks, I think that's in addition to Lucas K who has a paid S and C role. As usual, the football board is mute when it comes to these things.

Gary O'Donnell the latest Galway player to hang up his boots. Never the most spectacular player but was always a steady influence on the lads around him and good for a score or 2.

Not technically a manager but announced this evening that Cian O'Neill has joined Padraic Joyce's backroom team as coach.

It was definitely O'Hora that 'tackled' Shane, it happened in front of where we were sitting. Disaster of a day, to go in at half time 5 points up and not score from play in the second half is unforgivable at this level. The goalkeeping/kick out situation at this stage is laughable, Gleeson had a howler of a day yesterday, Power might not be the answer either but his distribution is streets ahead of Gleeson. Sean Kelly going off was a hammer blow, he's grown into one of our most important players. We have a real lack of scoring forwards at the minute, Cathal Sweeney was sweeping, Cooke seems to have lost the ability/confidence to score, teams have come to terms with Comers brute force now, he needs to develop another side to his game.

Ya I'd agree with that re Comer, I also don't think Shane Walsh is a no 14, his speed and ball carrying ability is wasted in there.

Comer needs to be closer to goal. He spent most of the 2nd half yesterday stuck out on the wing. Heard Kevin Walsh interviewed after the game and he said (correctly IMO) that Comer is a power athlete not an endurance athlete. You can't have him chasing lads up and down the pitch. He's not built to do that. Get him closer to goal and let him use his power over short bursts where he is still very dangerous. The one time he went in close to goal in the 2nd half he hit the crossbar and was fair unlucky to see it somehow not bounce in or over the bar but straight up in the air and out.

Finnerty going off was another blow and he was replaced with another sweeper which didn't make a lot of sense, put all the pressure of scoring on to an already under pressure Shane Walsh. Paul Kelly was anonymous but he'll come good eventually, first proper season and he's still u-20. Some very baffling decisions made by the sideline, an injured Shane replaced by Johnny Duane when we were in need of scores, Mike Farragher has been a brilliant player for Corofin but hasn't played a minutes ball over the whole league and championship, don't think he made the match day squad even and he was brought on yesterday? I also spotted Sean Andy Kelly at the match as a supporter, another defection from the panel it seems. To be honest I think this job came too soon for P.J. but that said I think he'll stay on, they haven't had a straight forward year yet with Covid disruptions etc so maybe he deserves that last roll of the dice but do we have the time to give him that chance, I don't know. If he does stay on he need to seriously rethink the S and C side of things, he needs a proper coach like Dave Morris or Rochford and he needs to get those players that opted out to come back, without the likes of Adrian Varley, Ian Burke, Ronan Steede, Michael Daly etc our panel is very bare.

Deserved win for Galway. I was optimistic at half time as after Galway goal, we started to play and string good scores together. We did miss a lot too, and had what looked a good point waved wide, and looked like opposite happened for Galway in second half. Very disjointed second half and apart from Cregg's 2 minutes before injury  when he stole in for a score, subs did not work. AC did not have a great day on the line and how Kiloran and Diarmuid were taken off before Cox is a mystery. As for the new defensive Poacher tactics, just awful to watch. Adds nothing to our game, other than signal to opposition we are afraid. It's been a poor year and I suppose the best that can be said is we are put out of our misery. Congrats to Galway, they will know themselves that a huge improvement is needed for a Mayo even without COC. But Shane Walsh would be a bigger loss for Galway. But like last year, Galway can always raise their game for Mayo.
Gracious words weareros- fair play.
You're right - Shane is just totally irreplaceable.
It was obvious watching him he was carrying a hamstring today - I really don't think he should have played today. He seems to have aggravated it now too which is a disaster for the Connacht final.

You could see he was really reluctant to shoot today which isn't like him so he obviously wasn't 100%, hopefully he hasn't done too much damage. The young lads really stood up today while our more senior players were quiet enough, Molloy, McHugh, the Kellys and Tierney were really good. Gleeson needs to get rid of the ball a lot quicker, he's not comfortable on the ball and his distribution is dodgy. Huge improvements to be made in a lot of areas but a step in the right direction anyway.

I wish we could pick a keeper and stick with him, not much between either of them but we need to be more consistent with whoever is picked.
