GAA Discussion / Re: Money is Destroying the Game

Not enough money is ruining the game in a lot of counties

Rural counties need coaching and development plans, full time GDAs on the ground promoting the games (ALL GAMES!) in schools and clubs across each county, more developmental style games for U8 - U13, more coaching courses and workshops for aspiring coaches.

Too much money being wasted on county teams, expensive managers for very little return and blown on centres of excellence and white elephant stadiums

Something I've found brought a lot of ones together from my home club is the Biggest Loser, it got a lot of people that weren't too involved with the GAA together, used the senior team as group leaders and exercise coaches, charge a couple of quid for circuit classes etc fantastic for community relations and did good work int he community.

Great idea, could even pull a few boys out of retirement  ;) How long did you run it for? Was it a post Christmas kind of thing? Seems like something that could fizzle out after a month or so?

Our club did the biggest loser last winter and its very good for building the club within the local community where people who'd no involvement in the GAA side of things started to come into the premises and ended up bringing their kids to camogie and hurling later in the year, not to mention some people lost some serious weight, but I wouldn't consider it a huge money spinner although they did run events in the club and we got the bar takings.

I'd highly recommend it, but don't be expecting big financial gain.
what facilities did ye have for running that sort of thing?

IRFU would save a lot of money by letting some promising young players off to France and England to develop
it might also develop a different sort of player - ie a different skillset, cause so many of the Irish players have poor offloading and line break skills

When was the last time a club from Leitrim or Sligo won the Connacht senior club? Or has it ever been done?

Sorry lads haven't had time to read the thread or catch up on the footage from last night but was hoping someone could summarise what Dunpys points where before the game and then after the game. Thanks

Germany don't have a Wes Hoolahan and Wes is his love child.

Other than that he turned his negative comments against past performances and team selections where the management and team didn't have the courage to go after similar results.

He was delighted otherwise.
Had a few goes at McCarthy too, which I suppose is just bitterness at this stage
Once McCarthy is played in his natural position, he is very effective

Dessie Dolan disallowed COC's goal on RTE - until he read the rules. I don't think COC should get top goalscorer because of his antics on the pitch. Splitting lads the posts with elbows great accuracy, repeated high tackles scoring stats..... ;D

That's better.  :D
C O'C is overrated

Brian Fenton had a great season
