SF are on the slide. They were the rebellious vote. But are no longer in that mould.

A rebel without a cause. And not even a rebel anymore!

Quote from: tbrick18 on May 18, 2024, 07:41:04 PMVery poor from Derry, sending off aside. So flat.
First half us where the game was lost, too many dropped short.

Too many of derrys star players were nowhere to be seen, glass didn't seem interested.

We were chasing the game, lachlan Murray just scored 3 I think, made a score saving tackle and Harte takes him off. Can't see the logic in that.

Galway were good. Should rightly leapfrog derry in the AI rankings and must be in that top 3 tier now.

Didn't listen to the commentary after the game but there can be no defending mckinless.
However,  I did think in general galway got their frees easier than us.
I'm trying to take my Galway hat off here (not easy of course) but I honestly didn't feel that we were getting frees easier.
In terms of scores from frees I'm not sure how many we ended up with but when we had 1-12 on the board only two of those were frees.
I can think of two off the top of my head tap over frees Derry got that were never frees (to me anyway).
McGuigan wins a high ball in first half & doesn't call a mark. He gets shepherded and throws himself down and gets a free.
One in second half (I think number 10) who runs into 2-3 Galway defenders and gets a very soft free.
Anyhow I'm only picking them as examples. The red card changed the game.
Who knows what would have happened if it didn't happen. It was going to be tight regardless

My understanding was that if a player doesn't call the mark for the free kick he plays on but cannot be tackled until he has taken 4 steps - Mc Guigan was tackled immediately he caught the ball.

Definitely think they're a great thing, at the end of the day the more people getting football at their level the better. Not sure it's fair on the junior clubs though that they csn play championship.

Quote from: Captain Obvious on May 16, 2024, 03:54:33 PMCan anyone from Dublin tell me why Ciarán Archer who would be around 24 now hasn't made the step up to Dublin senior team and is he even on the panel at the moment?

A talented player but don't think he better than what on panel now. Quality freetaker but for me doesn't do enough from play  and without the ball. He was on senior panel in 2022 but picked up an injury and never got back in.

A few of the forwards on the Dublin panel at the moment Ross McGarry,Killian O'Gara,Lorcan O'Dell,Killian McGinnis. He must have fallen back a fair bit from his days standing out at U20 level if not better than some of them now.
He's definitely better at kicking points than any of them, but there's more to being an intercounty player than that. His club being in D3 doesn't help with being able to play himself back in.

GAAgo is decent when you are abroad and worthwhile.

But it's a shambles at home. Poor quality and poor value. I'm amazed at the people falling for the GAA/RTE propaganda and defending it on here!

People comparing it to paying to a Sky subscription are being disingenuous (or have been misled by those being disingenuous). Sky Sports contains a massive range of different sports and price is not dependent on what you watch. GAAgo is a pay per view service more similar to Sky Box Office.

The premier league, which is pure money driven, tried to bring in a pay per view service on top of their Sky/BT offering. A 'season ticket' element similar to GAAgo was offered as well as single games. However, the English fans were tuned in enough to realize the massive difference between PPV and the general Sky Sports subscription, they complained and the premier league were forced to back track and abandon it.

There should be 4 games on TV every weekend during the season. Plenty of room in the schedule,  they've no problem finding room for 3 or 4 games every single day during world cups. Virgin/TV3 were effectively priced out of it by GAA/RTE looking to gouge us.

And there is absolutely no reason GAAgo could not be free. Could be funded by a sponsor and by adverts. And if it was free there would be considerably more people tuning in, which would increase sponsorship and advertising value.

If people have enough money to pay for this mediocre service, then I've absolutely no problem with them spending their excess cash however they wish, but the narrative that it's great value and we're lucky to have it is absolute nonsense.

Derry about to get what Tyrone had for years... ok until meet any sort of a half well coached decent team. Rory's work being unravelled as we speak... hype of league win hasn't helped. Reality time!

Quote from: Estimator on Today at 11:37:50 AMDerry were much better than I thought they'd be. Especially after seeing who was and wasn't involved in the team warm up before the game.

Everything was pretty even up to the (deserved) red card. Derry still got plenty of shots away, but way too many were a platform for Galway attacks.

They put in some shift covering back and forward in that second half. McGuigans block exemplified that. But it was always going to lead to gaps.

That said they still managed to claw it back and had McGuigans shot found the net or went over the bar, you're looking at a very different final few minutes. Galway may still have ran out winners, but at that point, they were definitely gettin nervy in the stand.

Armagh at home next, you'd have to hope that Derry have a couple of those injured men back and ready to go for that game.

Two week gap is probably saving them there.
