Quote from: galwayman on May 20, 2024, 11:36:52 PMJust wondering has anyone on here been to both the Austrian and Swiss Alps in the summer and able to compare them?
Have a week to take off work in early July and now thinking of trying to get a sneaky week away - but don't want the usual Med resort type break.
I was looking at Zell am See and Seefeld in Austria initially, but also looking at Morzine (mainly due to the free outdoor public heated pool) and Annecy in France.
I'm going research blind now though so am secondf guessing myself!
We've been away already earlier in the year, so trying to keep this as cheap as possible (so probably won't be able to stump up for accommodation with a pool for the kids).
Just looking for somewhere scenic with some swimming possibilities for the kid within walking distance of a reasonable choice of restaurants.
Anyone been to the areas mentioned?
Have been to Zell Am See a few times in the summer, lovely spot, don't need pool as there is an open air pool by the lake and can also swim in the lake which is class. Haven't been in 10 years or so but hope to go back soon. Moraine I haven't been to but it's on my bucket list
Cheers for that. Do you remember if the lake was an okay temperature to swim in?
Let's just say my two girls wouldn't be the bravest in terms of cold water :-)
It does look lovely.
Is the food decent?
Was in France last year and was surprised at how samey and so-so the food was in comparison to the North of Majorca for example.
I am off to Chamonix for 4th year in a row in July. Great, lovely and very scenic town, free rail travel up and down the valley, some Michelin stars if that's your thing. BUT no free swimming and can be expensive.

Morzine can be a little quiet in certain weeks in summer but has a really relaxed vibe. Check out AlpineElements who run hotels - they may have offers in July before English schools finish.

Annecy is class, my favourite town that a I've visited. There's a Eurocamp place along the gorgeously clean lake that may be decent value.

I spent a lot of time in Swiss pre-Alps whena student, and loved towns like Montreux, Lausanne, Vevey, Gstaad. But nothing there comes cheaply.

Zell am See would tick all my boxes and will visit when kids are older.

I absolutely love Annecy, Chamonix and Morzine! Annecy is one the best places I've ever been to. Can't wait to get back to it.

Quote from: square_ball on May 19, 2024, 08:32:42 AMI think a lot of you lads are judging the overall fight on that 1 round in the 9th and then thinking Usyk should be winning comfortably. Looking at those scorecards they look fair enough imo. Fury had plenty of success in the middle rounds, Usyk done well at the start and end and then a few rounds hard enough to score.

Carl Frampton had it 6 rounds each and then with the knockdown Usyk wins 114-113. Though I agree with the above it Fury could/should have been stopped by the ref in the 9th. Seen fights stopped for less.

Exactly this. It was a close fight except for round 9.

Quote from: NatSoSaff on May 14, 2024, 11:41:04 AMSpeaking to a man there about the Tailteann cup. So in theory, Antrim could make it all the way to the final which is 13th July. This would mean that there would be a good handful of players that won't have kicked a single league ball for their clubs over 15 games? Is this correct? And potentially may only get a couple of championship group games if their club doesn't progress? Jesus Christ the system is well and truly broken.

Yeah, seems totally mad.  Antrim start their leagues very early in comparison to other counties.  Maybe the solution is to start the leagues later?

That would be the obvious thing to do. Div 1 League is basically just a friendly competition at the minute. Any Div 2 or 3 team with a few county players would be at a massive disadvantage for their league. The difference in getting promoted and not!

John Fury ran away to the other side of the room after headbutting a fella that looked about 14.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz looks good. Out on Sky Atlantic on Thursday.
Off work for a week or 2 here and need a good series to watch. Rome any use? Only 2 seasons.

Highlight of the match yesterday was young Conor Loyd from our club who played in the All Stars half time game! Grabbed the mic and walked off with it during the half time interviews! Very funny and well handled by the BBC team!

Quote from: bridgegael on April 15, 2024, 08:39:18 AM9 weeks into marathon training, slight niggle on outside of knee for about a week. Went for long run yesterday and it had to be cut short as knee became too sore and swelled up and very sore after it.  Quick google of symptoms would have me believe I have IT band syndrome, with a 6 week recovery time,  physio tomorrow night,  but just wondering does anyone have any experience of this and will it take long to shift it?

Get your legs rubbed out every week, some strengthening work, shorten your stride, good pair of trainers and run 80% of your runs slow.

Local links courses are fine.

The good ones are usually a fortune to play though.

Getting the bus for £36 return for 2 people.

That is the short term I presume?

I always park in the short term and have done before they offered as a prebook option, especially when I was expensing for work. You not being extorted, you are paying for a premium parking spot right at the door of the terminals and it's always been that expensive (you get a discount for pre-booking now). The problems are since quick park shut there is a shortage of long term spots (the blue is a pain in the bollox) and more cost effective options.

The bus is great value and drops you right at the terminals. If you have close by, not sure why you'd drive to the airport tbh.

The other options were a 15min transfer from the blue long term car park for £130 and another shorter one for £108. Parked in the red car park a few years ago and it's more than doubled in price. I'm only 10/15 min from the bus route so you're right, it's a better option to just get the bus.
