Quote from: jcpen on December 26, 2023, 09:44:01 PMVilla very poor this second half. Good result for Arsenal and Liverpool this.

Villa were poor for the entire game.

Thanks mostly to themselves. Their Points Per Game average (so far) is higher than both those teams finished with last season. Them regressing has little to do with Spurs' season , apart from the 6 points they gave them.

Quote from: J70 on December 21, 2023, 01:56:29 PMLooks like they're proposing that teams would have to qualify now, which removes that primary reason for the backlash.

they are not proposing that. They are proposing that teams can qualify , for the 3rd competition, and eventually work their way up. But the teams who start in the top competition could have multiple bad seasons domestically and it wouldn't matter as long as they did ok in this competition.

they started off with a closed shop proposal, which was rejected.
now they've returned with as close to that as possible.

if a team like Girona, Villa, or Leverkusen (to use this years high flyers as example) were to have a brilliant season domestically , they still would not be in the top european competition the following year.

3-0 would not have flattered Villa. 22 shots to 2. City didn't even have a corner. 14 home league wins in a row now.

Quote from: AustinPowers on November 17, 2023, 02:44:36 PMSo Everton docked points for  having  financial losses.  Would it not be fairer if the PL  put a limit  on  what clubs are allowed to spend instead?

I suppose there's  ways around that too.

Ah feck it,  football is a farce . I blame Jimmy Hill

The whole point of FFP was to keep the same teams at the top perpetually. Giving the same spending limit to all teams wouldn't achieve that goal.

Quote from: J70 on November 17, 2023, 01:01:36 PMI may be reading it wrong but it looks like Everton exceeded the 105m limit over the three years by about 20m.

If so, a single (average) player deal could have been the difference.

20m would be a 60m transfer on a 3 year contract.

Quote from: rodney trotter on October 26, 2023, 01:00:32 PMNot if the other teams continue to struggle. Sheffield United have 1 pt from 9 games. Bournemouth yet to win a game. Burnley are very open,

They'll all pick up some points though. The play each other, and then in the final quarter of the season they play mid table teams on the beach. Of course Everton will too - but a 12 point deduction would kill them. They are currently on course for 30 points. Even with 40 points, it would be low percentage chance of being enough. They'd probably need 45+ points for the odds to turn in their favour.

Anyway, I bet they don't get a 12 point deduction. IF there is a point deduction then it'll be maybe 6 points, and they'll do their best to apply it at the time of least impact. Ideally after they are safe, by more than 6 points.

Their pick is really small though. Clubs of that size are always going to have periods of time when they don't have enough quality to counter the lack of numbers.

Some people can get very exercised by who wins these awards. Just like with all-stars in GAA, I personally pay as close to no attention as possible to individual awards in team sports. Ballon D'Or is a player of the year award by a football magazine in France. That's it.

Quote from: lurganblue on October 18, 2023, 10:21:21 PMWell the Juve lad just threw everyone under the bus by the looks of things and got himself a reduced sentence. I'm not sure exactly what the story is. There isn't much detail out there on Zaniolo anyway.

Tonali getting the headlines as he is a Newcastle player. Zaniolo will soon be a Turkish league player again, as I'm sure Villa will have grounds to send him back in January.

We're planning on doing the Rosslare to Bilbao ferry next May. Hopefully spend about a month there. Have always wanted to see San Sebastian. AirBnBs are not cheap though!

Looks like all 5 of Ireland, NI, England, Wales, and Scotland will go through qualifying for Euro2028. There will be 2 "safety net" places for the two non-qualifiers with the best record. Will take some going to fail to qualify.

Quote from: Eire90 on October 05, 2023, 02:44:59 AMohh is that why dublin is 16 teams a few years ago it was 32 team knockout i think with first round losers going into a consulation senior b championship

Yes, they were forced to change due to directive from HQ.
They could easily rename the second tier Intermediate, and send the winners in to the Leinster Intermediate (would have been Vincents last year). But there doesn't seem to be any appetite to do that.

It's already limited to 16 teams.
Senior B is just a name. It's the second tier , whether you call it senior B or intermediate.
