GAA Discussion / Ground Naming Rights
January 15, 2024, 09:18:54 PM
Pairc ui chaoimh going to be called SuperValu park.

Anyone else hate this shite, a century of history distinguished for a few euro.

Not a fan of the Kingspan Breffni shite either. It's Breffni Park and I refuse to call it anything other than that.

Seems everything is for sale these days.

General discussion / Come in if you Hate Christmas
December 22, 2023, 02:17:07 PM
With such nice thread in Christmas songs etc it's only fair there is a thread for people like me who hate Christmas.

I hate...

Christmas trees (assembly and disassembly)
Christmas songs
Christmas movies
Christmas weather
Elf on the f**king Shelf

Sorry but I feel much better for coming out as a Christmas hater.

Am I alone?

General discussion / Celtic Symphony and Class
January 02, 2023, 12:15:37 PM
Question

When a number of Irish woman's soccer players were recorded singing Celtic Symphony there were 10 pages of comments on the FAI thread. They were dragged through the media, north and south, and forced into a grovelling apology. The FAI were fined.

Yesterday Leinster Rugby played the song over the Tannoy system during the post match parade. This is the 2nd time this has been done. Leinster players too have been previously recorded singing the same song

https://www.dublinlive.ie/news/dublin-news/watch-delighted-leinster-players-singing-16335270

Hardly a murmur over on the Irish rugby thread.

So it's clear there is classism at play here but is the same classism at play on the gaaboard - working class young women are fair game but rugger men from affluent Dublin aren't?

GAA Discussion / Underage Amalgamations
September 24, 2022, 04:42:05 PM
Just wondering how this is dealt with in other counties. Are clubs that are amalgamated allowed play in b,c,d grades in your county or are they forced to play in A.

How is your grading decided? Where I live clubs grade themselves and we've got amalgamations winning b and c leagues and championships when they really should becstarting at a higher level. Interested to hear how other counties handle this.

GAA Discussion / Sports Capital Grant
February 12, 2022, 08:35:27 AM
2020 sports capital grant winners announced yesterday, seems to have been  a massive give away this year. My club got 120k, previous grants were 30k consistently. Anyone else do well out of it

General discussion / Charity Question
April 02, 2021, 03:11:59 PM
Hi all,

This is an odd question.

I have come into possession of €1000 gift voucher for a local hardware store - lets say its a place like Woodies and does building supplies and the like. Its a long story. The vouchers will last 12 more months.

Basically I want to give this voucher to a charity that would make good use of it. Any ideas?

GAA Discussion / Trustee addition and removal
March 07, 2021, 06:54:12 PM
Hi, question for legal eagles outbthere. My club is in the 26 counties and the trustee arrangement is a mess. We need to add some new trustees and we also need to remove a trustee who is no longer of full mental capacity, has become very paranoid and is refusing to cooperate with even simple requests (eg addition of new trustees, application for grant aid).

So how does a club add or remove a trustee?

GAA Discussion / Club House Display
May 06, 2020, 08:22:20 PM
Looking for some help.

I am working on player of the year display for our club. Idea is to have some sort of display in the clubhouse with the player of the years listed by year. Ideally would be able to add new winners to it without much effort. Looking for something that looks professional and sharp. Not really sure where to go. I have a graphic designer who can lay out what the display would look like. Are there companies out there that build this sort of thing to order. Any names, websites etc. All help appreciated.

GAA Discussion / VAR in Gaelic Football
January 11, 2020, 04:50:38 PM
Just watching soccer here and all the goals being disallowed by VAR for tiny margins. Could you imagine if every score in football were checked. I'm thinking every score would be cancelled for over carrying for a start.

GAA Discussion / Full Size Astro Pitch
December 15, 2019, 05:00:23 PM
Has anyone been involved in installing an Astro pitch? What would you expect as a ball park on the price per square foot, just for the carpet and ground works? I know each site is different so just looking for an order of magnitude on it.

Cheers.

Has there ever been a more low key build up to the greatest Derby in the game?

Mickey Graham has said all year it is all about championship. Gearoid McKiernan is back fit and going well. However Cavan dont have high scoring forwards if the league is anything to go by.

Monaghan missing a few but they have McManus and some able support from elsewhere and that has been the difference in previous meetings.

Freetakers would be in Monaghans favour too with Cavans efforts in the league on that front really poor.

Bookies have it 2/1 Cavan and 1/2 Monaghan

It will be close but it is surely time for normal service to resume and the Ulster Kingpins to reassert themselves as top dogs.

Sad to hear of his death, an important figure in GAA and sports journalism. I personally enjoyed reading his Indo articles.

GAA Discussion / Ulster Minor/U17 Championship
April 28, 2019, 10:13:54 AM
Round 1 games played yesterday

Cavan 2-14 Fermanagh 1-7
Armagh 0-4 Derry 1-5
Donegal 1-8 Tyrone 1-12
Antrim 1-2 Monaghan 0-6

What are some coaches in Ulster at. 6 scores to 4 in one game and 6 scores to 3 in another. Minor was always the beautiful game and it's being ruined.

Anyone know the draw for next round?

General discussion / Celebrities that you admire
December 31, 2018, 07:41:16 PM
It's been said many a time here and elsewhere that the Irish are a crowd of begrudgers. Don't believe that myself so I'm hoping people can list a few celebrity type people they admire and why?

Dont think there is a thread on this.
