A second round pick is not that steep of a price to pay for a shot at a competent QB - they spent a 3rd rounder on Beathard. If Garoppolo flames out they can easily wash their hands of this and move on (they'll most likely have the 1st or 2nd overall pick). If he plays well then they can franchise tag him, which would give them quite a few options - sign him to a long-term deal, sign another free agent QB (Hello Kirk Cousins!) and deal him for more then they paid for him, or draft a QB. I think this move makes sense for Niners, as it gives them options without having to go all in on a unknown quantity. The next 8 weeks for Garoppolo will be the audition for the rest of his career.

Some win for Sam Bennett at Paris Nice today, beat all the big dogs (bar Cavendish).

Delighted for him, great win. A pure sprint too and won it by a fair distance.

I'm not sure i buy the line that the players in SF got sick of Harbaugh. I don't recall any publically criticising him after he left and most seemed enjoy playing for him (of course winning cures many ills). He always came across as very much a players coach - Defending them in the media. The issue for Harbaugh in SF was his relationship with the front office and ownership - he seemed to have very little time for owner (who is a joke) and a distrust of any one in a suit, who wasn't 'blue collar'.

Kyle Shanahan is a great hire - though i'm really surprised he's taken it given the absolute dearth of talent on the niners roster. They at least have lots of cap space to work with.

On Rodgers, agree with AZ, you need to keep in the pocket. The one rap on him over the years is that he takes too many sacks - especially those long sacks where the qb holds on to the ball too long. Atlanta's pass rushers will need to be disciplined.

Super performance by Atlanta. keeping their pass rush going will be key for them.

Three potentially close games this weekend and one probable blow out.

I'm going with:
Texans vs Patriots
Steelers vs Chiefs
Seahawks vs falcons
Packers vs Cowboys

The great Steve Young is calling for a surprise Super Bowl pairing of Pittsburgh and Atlanta.

Pittsburgh and Atlanta are probably the two most explosive offences left, so i'm not surprised that Steve Young is picking them. Texans and seahawks probably have the two best defences but their offences will see them unstuck sooner or later.

There's an old saying about elections that 'something beats nothing'. I think that was very true of this election. The Clinton campaign was too much focused on Trump and his shortcomings and did not have enough of a positive story to tell. It was a defensive campaign that gave the impression of someone scared to lose. Bernie would have offered an alternative vision and imo probably would have won.

You're trying to prove the unprovable, for every stat produced there'll be another one to contradict it...

Lies, damn lies and statistics as someone once said.

The original question posed was whether it would be a surprise if he never won another major. Personally i would be a surprised if that turned out to be the case though i wouldn't count against him only winning 1 or 2 more. This opinion (not trying to prove anything) is based on his career trajectory so far and a (bog standard) analysis of his game i.e. his putting is weak.
Personally I hope he does go on a win a hatful more majors.

Wouldn't surprise me if Rory never won another one

Madness!!! No offence but do you even watch much golf?

Do you know how difficult it is to win one major let alone the 4 he's already won? He'll win another major at least one and potentially another 4 he's only 27 and Stenson just won his first @ 40!!

I can't believe all these people writing off McIlroy and Spieth at such a young age!!

I think the fact that it has taken a player of Stenson's quality to reach 40 before winning a major is evidence that you just can't take it for granted, even for the likes of McIlroy. While I reckon he will win at least 1 or 2 more majors I think it is also likely that he will never have another period like he did from 2011-14. At 27 Seve had won 5 majors but only won 2 more after that. I think Palmer won most of his majors early in his career.

McIlroy has always been a streaky player, in the period 2011-2014 you mention he had possibly the worst year of his professional career in 2013....

Seve only won 5 majors..

My bad. I see, like McIlroy, he actually had won 4 by the time he was 27 and then only 1 more thereafter.

Sure its pure Mystic Meg stuff, McIlroy may never win another major but comparing him to Seve because it suits your argument is as relevant as me saying he'll win them regularly throughout his career until his mid 40s like Jack Nicklaus did. Its pure conjuncture.

The comparison with Seve is surely more apt given that Nicklaus had won many more majors at the same age (7 i think).
It is of course too early to tell but he will certainly not get close to Nicklaus unless he improves his putting.
