DUP Luminary/Asshole Nelson Mc Causland had a letter in the Belfast Telegraph berating IFA President Jim Boyce for allowing this tournament to be called the Celtic Cup, as the six counties was comprised off a lot of non Celts descendants etc.

Yet he has no problem with the IFA labelling their premier local knockout competition "The Irish Cup" :-[

I would be opposed to this farce. In the former annual British and Irish Championship, the only match that really mattered was the England Scotland game. Often the Wales V North of Ireland game had a four figure attendance only.In recent years the FAI has done brilliantly brining the likes of Brazil ,Portugal and  Italy to Dublin for friendlies. These attracted full house attendances at Lansdowne and its the route the FAI should continue with rather than games against Scotland, Wales and the North, which have no spectator appeal

Nelson McCausland has no position in, or connection with, any aspect of soccer in NI, so it really is none of his business. Consequently, the IFA will ignore him. You would, too, if you had any sense or judgement.

As for the Irish Cup, when the Irish Football Association initiated this competition in 1880, it did so as the governing body for the whole of Ireland and seeing as this was a cup competed for in Ireland, by teams of Irishmen, it is hardly surprising that they decided to call it what they did. The fact that a group of clubs in one part of Ireland decided to defect and set up a rival organisation in 1921 is no reason for changing the name of the trophy, either, since it is still competed for in Ireland by teams of Irishmen.

Your opposition to what you term a "farce" is noted, in the same file as holds Nelson McCausland's correspondence (otherwise known as "the bin")

As for the opinions which cause you to conclude thus, why waste your precious time posting them on this forum? Would it not be better to write directly to the SFA, IFA, WFA and FAI to let them know what you think - I'm sure they're dying to know... ::)

P.S. The last Wales v North of Ireland [sic] game attracted a crowd of over 63,000. In 2005.
