Above updated  6 October with clubs remaining in each county championship.

No info on Waterford teams at this time, or the Kerry Hurling Intermediate winners, plus a few more.

Will update weekly as we go forward.

You can probably scrub out the Waterford football reps the way things are going.

Yeah I thought the Waterford County board had pretty much confirmed 100% there was no way they would have any of their football championships run off in time for the Munster championship?

Yeah it's been in local media last few weeks that Waterford won't have senior football completed in time. There's one team in intermediate football final as St Saviours won east final last week but not sure about situation in the west. I don't know about junior football. Hurling should be completed in time barring replays. Quarter finals are on this weekend in senior hurling. Senior hurling championship has been on every weekend since All Ireland final so team going into Munster will be either tired or well prepared depending on how result goes!

Update 8 October.  Waterford hurlers have semi-finals 15 October, final 22 October, so Munster QF pushed back a week to 29 October.  Dr. Crokes represent Kerry irrespective of how the County Final goes against divisional side South Kerry, as Dr. Crokes won the Senior Club competition in Kerry.

Edit 9 October: Waterford entries updated, except for their Senior Football.  Some great club names i Tir na Deise....Modeligo, St. Saviours (not Xaviers), Sean Phobal to name a few.  Wonder is Sean Phobal Old People or John Public?

Update 27 October.  Waterford will not have a senior football representative this year, so Nemo Rangers get a bye to the semi-final.  Waterford held their Intermediate Football Final on Friday night 27 October at 8pm, with winners Dungarvan on duty in the provincial quarter-final this Sunday 29 October.  At least both games are in Dungarvan.

4 games total set for this weekend 28/29 October.

In the "quare name but great stuff" award, can anyone enlighten the history of Clare junior hurling champions Luban Duige (Bodyke)?  Both English and Irish roots if possible.

Yep, crokes upped it and we couldn't live with them, we had a brilliant goal chance cleared off the line at the start of the 2nd half but never threatened after and ran out of steam. No complaints with result

Dr crokes are very very good at "tactical fouling". Even when they are winning easily.

This is absolutely true.  They protect the goal at all cost, giving up frees.  They seem to have a "rotate who does the fouling" so no player gets caught for persistent infringements.

The success of the fouling tactic is seen in the number of goals they concede.  In 5 county championship games this year, plus two Munster games, total goals conceded is 1 (South Kerry in the county final).  Seven championship games with 1 goal conceded is impressive, but as you point out, there is a darkish side to that statistic.  They also retain possession very wide in the closing stages of games, with the wing backs and wing forwards very prevalent.  Also by design, the subs seem to carry the ball more, using their fresher legs I presume.

They will be hard beat, but they are not everyone's cup of tea.

Slaughtneill winning it all would be a great story.

I think corofin are better than them but just couldn't deal with their cynicism last year and maybe needed a bit more themselves. Would like to see dr crokes beat but not convinced that will happen. For all their cynicism 3 handy forwards plus bucley who is very useful in there.

No talk of Nemo at all. Crokes will be favourites, but Nemo have serious firepower and the cockyness to believe they should win because they are Nemo. They are tossing for home advantage. That will be huge.

It's funny, on paper I think this Crokes squad are a good 7/8 pts better than Nemo, but games aren't won on paper..

The last time these clubs met Nemo absolutely wiped them in the 1st half and were 13 up at half-time only for a sensational comeback by Crokes to narrow it to 2 before the finish. That was over 6 years ago and although some players remain on both sides, these are 2 very different squads.
Crokes are starting to look like the kind of team and squad they thought they were 2/3 years ago (when they weren't) and they are dispatching teams like Clonmel and Quilty easily enough. Nemo won a Cork championship that isn't of a very high quality at the moment, but they too are battle-hardened. They came through 2 games against big rivals St Finbarrs after an epic game with UCC in the quarter final aswell. In Luke Connolly, Kerrigan and Barry O'Driscoll they possess attacking weapons capable of troubling any club team.

Crokes however have a seriously powerful attack and it takes a serious group of defenders with a lot of cover to hold them I think right now. Johnny Buckley is flying in midfield and Crokes have finally learned to cover up well at the back and are capable of being as hard to break down as anyone.

The fact it's on in Páirc uí Rinn (as opposed to the bigger pitch down the road) and the fact it's Nemo and they fear nobody means this is harder to call than it should be, but just don't see Nemo holding that Crokes forward unit to a low enough score to win. Crokes by 4.

Twas losing to your crowd that guided Crokes towards getting a bit of steel in the last 10 minutes of games.  They are clinical in closing out games now. Not pretty, cynical in parts, but effective.  They are also getting a bit of a reputation for antics on the sideline by team management, not only at senior level but down to underage levels as well.  Something to watch out for in the future.

Was talking to someone who was at both the Nemo v Finbarrs games and he gives Nemo next to no chance against Crokes - he said that they are miles off being serious contenders in terms of the club All-Ireland. He said there was just no way any sort of serious outfit would have left Finbarrs back into it the first day to get the draw. The standard of club football in Cork is poor enough; despite a large number of clubs - and Cork clubs' record in Munster the last few years has been very patchy. I think a Crokes v Slaughtneil semi-final beckons.

I was at the drawn game. Nemo's problem in the second half was they got utterly destroyed at midfield. Their two midfielders seem like good footballers, but are not the biggest. For some reason they refused to try and go short on kick outs. Their back line is decent, without being amazing. And they are missing 2 of them now, including T O'Se. Their forward line is very good. They know how to create space for one another and in Connolly they have a man in the form of his life.
However, as you say, they haven't met a team like Crokes yet. Nemo will need to score goals to win, and Crokes don't tend to give them up to easily.

I'd say Knocknagree would be favourites alright. Dromid's main forward got a straight red as well, so he'll be a massive loss. Galtee Gaels just tired, once Dromid changed the midfield and stopped the bigger of the two Childs (I think that's their name) from dominating there. Galtee Gaels were winning everything around the middle, and were firing big strong runners off the shoulder. Dromid couldn't cope to be honest. Then they moved Tomás Curran and Aidan O'Sullivan to centre field, and that stopped the momentum a bit. Dromid started breaking even or better out there, and the tide turned a little bit. They nearly left it too late though, they had 3 goals conceded by that stage.

Dromid have a nice little team though, so Knocknagree will need to be right.

Both teams at full strength - Dromid clear favourites. That's having seen both play in the last 2 years. If Niall O'Shea is missing that's a big loss for Dromid alright but still think they have enough to win it. Knocknagree have a few good forwards but vulnerable further back.

Gaeltacht got over Mallow in Intermediate football, who would have been the main danger really I expect.
Crokes and Nemo should be interesting next Sunday.

Connelly has been at the level of performance all year. 2.5 months is a long wait though, so there will be no formlines coming in to semi. Tomas O'Se should be back by that stage too, which will be a huge boost for Nemo.

Kerrigan is suddenly a hard man when he's winning. Should be cited and put out of the semi-final.

He can't be, the referee dealt with it. Gave him a yellow.

I thought it was the FF and a Crokes player that got carded in the ensuing melee. If he's not out after that it's a joke.

It wasn't the grey haired lad now I think of it, but it definitely wasn't Kerrigan. If he was carded for it must have been before it and I missed it.

An elbow to the face isn't even close to being a tackle. Incredibly dangerous play.

Crokes very cynical. Continuously pulling down players. There were a few nasty incidents in the second half from both teams with Crokes being the main culprits. Gooch got a free near the end for barging straight into a player. Gooch did his best to referee the game, but in fairness the Referee did not listen much to his guff.

An Gaeltacht win the Intermediate Championship. Easy for them given they really play in a Senior B Championship in Kerry. They will more than likely hockey their way to an AI title!

No love lost between Kerry and Cork sides. Gooch was ratty throughout and it lead to a relatively poor performance from him. Kerrigan was excellent, however his effort at a tackle near the end should warrant a 3 game ban. Overall really good game for this time of year, thought Nemo were excellent.

Fair play to referee , he wan't intimidated by Crokes sideline antics trying to influence match officials. A selector running onto pitch at half time to confront referee as well as sideline jumping up and down at every decision. Nemo should have scored at least 3 goals only for excellent saves by Shane Murphy.

An Ghaeltacht (Kerry) 3-21
St Senan's (Limerick) 0-8

Is the above scoreline a disgrace? I'm sure St Senan's are a decent intermediate Club. To be shamed in such a way by what is essentially a Senior Kerry team playing in an intermediate competition is just wrong.

Offaly changed last year too. 8 teams in Senior 'A' - clubs enter the LSCFC, 8 in Senior 'B' - clubs enter the LICFC, and intermediate champions enter the LJFCF. Didn't help us this year mind you. Our Junior representatives reached the leinster final, but the other two were beaten early.

It was in the semi-final they beat them. Of course I was not going on about it. Westport came from an Intermediate Championship where there was 16 Senior teams above them. There is a simple solution. The Kerry Junior champions enter the AI intermediate Championship and the Novice winners should enter the Junior AI Championship.

Why is this stupid sh*te moaning about the Kerry system rearing its head again?

From the Bunker, you run your county's championships whatever way you want and we'll sort our own out. Thanks. Telling us how many teams we should have in our Senior championship, did you ever hear such nonsense!

Anyway, fair play to Nemo, I got it wrong yesterday and they just ground down Crokes and outfought them. Connolly was the classiest player on view, not Gooch, O'Leary or any of the Crokes forwards. They couldn't handle him and it says a lot when Crokes supposed County-level defender was not trusted to go on him when he was running amok. Nemo really are an admirable club. Even with teams that you think mightn't have the talent of others, they nearly always perform when it matters and give nothing easy. The injury to Kerrigan (looks like ACL unfortunately) means they probably won't get an All Ireland but they'll still make it hard for Slaughneil I guarantee.

An Gaeltacht had the expected easy win over Senans in the Intermediate final. Anybody thinking this result makes some point or is unusual, hasn't a clue. The semi-final was the real final. A game in which Gaeltacht and Mallow had a good even battle until Gaeltacht pulled away in the last quarter. A hammering of the Limerick Intermediate champions, will all due respect, proves nothing. Look at the Nemo v Adare result in the senior championship - does that prove something?

Gaeltacht v Moy should be tasty!

An Ghaeltacht (note the correct spelling) did indeed finish second in Division 1 of the County League.  The problem with using the league as a yardstick is the fact that county panel members do not play in any significant amount of league games.   Clubs with a lot of county men suffer if they don't have a very strong panel.  An Ghaeltacht (and Dingle) have produced many fine young players that helped PS Corca Dhuine win two Hogan Cups.  Expect a few to be on the county squad in 2018, which might adversely affect their league results.  An Ghaeltacht and Dingle are both well positioned to do well in the county championship in 2018.

The pecking order in Kerry is 1) county championship 2) club championships 3) divisional board championships 4) county league.  In fact, the county league was only introduced in 1970 to give some games to players who might have been tempted to do other things as the GAA looked likely to abolish Rule 27 (which did happen in 1971).

Win junior, move up to intermediate and win intermediate you will be senior and entitled to "go alone" in the county championship.  Worst senior club drops to intermediate based on all the losers continuing to play until one team is left in the senior club championship (it takes three losses to be demoted).  Relegation from intermediate, meanwhile, is decided by the lowest finishing position in the league of all the first round losers.  Of the 8 first round losers in this year's intermediate, three were in division 3, with St. Michael's/Foilmore finishing at the bottom, thus being regraded to junior for 2018.

The intent in Kerry has been to have 8 senior clubs, 16 intermediate and 16 junior premier and 18 in junior.  That seems to be the bone of contention here, in that division 1 has 11 teams but only 8 are senior. There are 12 teams in div 1-4 and 13 in div 5.  There is also a junior league of 8 divisions, with teams grouped geographically more than quality, but it suffers from a spate of walkovers.

This may all change this week, as there are recommendations being brought to the county board that may result in changing the entire championship structure and timing.  I'm sure they will seek this discussion board's approval on any new format.  Any new format must be ratified at convention on 11 Dec. so get your comments in quickly.

Knocknagree are munster junior football champions after a 3 point win v Dromid after extra time.  Really could have gone either way as Knocknagree equalised with the last kick of normal time. They fell behind by 2 points in extra time before a goal gave them a lead they never lost. Excellent game.

In the hurling Ardmore from Waterford were that bit too strong for Ballybacon Grange. I think they ended up with 12 or 13 men while Ballybacon ended with 14 but it didn't look like a nasty game. I only saw the last 20 minutes. It was very close until a 2-2 burst from Ardmore early in the second half gave them a lead they were fairly comfortable defending even if Brendan Cummins got a late goal from a free to put 6 between them. Gas to see a junior hurling game with the likes of Brendan Cummins and Seamus and Declan Prendergast playing.

That's only the 3rd time in 17 years that a Kerry team has not won the Munster Football Junior Club Championship. The other three times it has been won by Cork clubs. Have nothing against Dromid Pearses, but it is good to see the weighted Kerry Champions put on their arse.

Still playing? Was he lined out in nets or outfield? he'd be a handy outfield player, we played them many moons ago at the St Judes 7's great craic as the lads all trying to get a goal past Cummins..some banter

In goals. Was taking the long range frees as well. He missed a couple in the second half, and got a good ribbing from the Ardmore crowd. When he scored the goal he got a big roar despite the state of the game at the time. He enjoyed that moment at least.
