Title: Heart surgery for Ken McGrath
Post by: Zulu on April 30, 2014, 12:14:27 PM
According to Hoganstand former Waterford hurler Ken McGrath had to undergo open heart surgery to "stop a life threatening illness". That's shocking news and I hope everything is now ok. I met him once or twice and he seemed like a thoroughly decent fella as well as a great hurler. Hopefully all goes well but I'm sure a young man like Ken will have a great chance to fully recover.

I heard rumours that he wasn't well and he had sarcoidosis a few years back (http://www.independent.ie/sport/hurling/mcgrath-raring-to-go-after-lost-year-26618203.html), perhaps it's related. Get well soon, Ken.

Best wishes to Ken. A warrior like him should hopefully be ok.

Heart was one thing he certainly didn't lack.

I hadn't heard about this at all so surprised but best wishes to Ken McGrath for a full recovery. He was a great player over the years for club and county.

One of my favourite hurlers of all time.

Best of luck to him.

After consultation with the McGrath Family, a committee has been formed to set up and administer "The Ken McGrath Rehabilitation Fund".
Ken, a former All-Star and Waterford hurling great is recovering from a serious heart operation which will involve a lengthy rehabilitation process with considerable financial implications.
A benefit match on Ken's behalf will be held in Walsh Park on Friday 27th June at 7.30pm.

I hope Ken is able to recover without financial worries as well. Great hurler, and a nice fella.
