Utd is a family club with a rich history. I know some so called Yanited fans will be delighted for the defeat on Weds ebening as it might hasten the demise of the family who buy the players and pay the wages. But that same family are expected to now sign cheques to reinforce Ole at d wheel. Time to get behind Avram Joel Malcom Sharon and the wider family for the great work they have done so far and continue to do quietly behind the scenes, truly great custodians. A record that speaks for itself, since the family took the club forward in 2005 everything that could be won has been won.

Read this morning that Utd won the toss the other night and opted to take 2nd penalty, anyone know if true?

Shocking decision if true...

Nearly sure Virgin 2 commentary said that at the time.

Aye Fernandes won the toss and opted for second pen. Seems a strange decision.

60% chance you win if you go first... bad mistake.

All ten outfield players scored. DeGea didn't even look confident taking his penalty. The mistake was allowing the match to be decided on a sudden death penalty shootout.

No disputing what your saying CO but once you were at the penalties why would you then choose to go 2nd? Presumably a club decision, not a whim by Bruno?

Very true. But you get my point.

Someone online said that due to DeGea's poor record on penalty saves going second in a deciding pen would have had them relying on an outfield player scoring a goal to win, rather than relying on DeGea to save.

It was some random punter speculating although there must be some rationale behind it as I think I'd always rather go first and put the pressure on the opposition.

No way on earth there was a club decision to go second.

As most of us know, there's one coin toss to decide ends, then another to decide who goes first.
Villarreal won the first coin toss. Fact.

I don't know who won the second coin toss. The way the virgin guy was speaking was as if United automatically had choice because they lost the choice of ends.

Maybe he was right and Bruno won the second toss and inexplicably chose to go 2nd. Or maybe the commentator missed the second coin toss and made an incorrect assumption. The latter being the most likely.

There's big pressure  in peno shootouts, moreso when it gets to sudden death and there's no question there is more pressure on the team going second.

From the Bunker

The main mistake was being in the Europa League in the first place, after that the mistake was not putting an average Villareal team to bed in normal time.
Penalties just threw the winning of the game down to a random mistake.

Anyone believing these rumours with Ronaldo?

Sounds to me like a bit of a smoke screen already for a challenging window. Any club would take him without hesitation with his record, but just doesn't ring true for me.
