Brassed Off
One of my favourite films! Who would have thought a movie about a colliery band and pit closures could be so good.

Also, the Breakfast Club was pretty good - who would have thought a movie about detention would be such a cult hit

Two great films.

Also, Being John Malkovich - another weird and wonderful sort of a film with what I can only assume is a cult following - but I liked it - who would have thought a film could be made about going through a cupboard into John Malkovich's head.  I often wonder what the conversation went like when someone presented this script or a synopsis to a producer.

Groundhog Day - who would have thought a film about a journalist reliving the same boring day over and over again could work.  But it is a classic!!

Groundhog Day pretty much sums up Bill Murray's film career. Same laconic deadpan performance in every one.

Crazy f***ing film, crazy premise and that is about the craziest scene in it.  Maybe the most offbeat / weird thing I've ever seen in a film.

The French have made a fair few slow paced classics with an uninspiring premise - Claire's Knee a typical example about a soon to be married man who develops an obsession with a young girl's knee.

Scent of a Woman

If you described it to me, I would say it sounds boring, but a great film with one of the best movie speeches I've seen.
