Hi guys,
Thought there might be someone on here that could help me, as I'm a little bit ignorant to most things technology:
Currently have a Samsung S7 which is due an upgrade. Issues with battery not lasting a day, and storage. The phone is over 3 years old and only has 32GB of space, so I imagine most phones would provide an upgrade on that.
Don't really use the phone for much - streaming videos to TV or Chromecast; Twitter; podcasts etc
Would like a decent camera
I looked at getting the Samsung S10 now that the S20 is out, but it seems to be almost the same price.
Someone at work recommended an Oppo Reno - anyone on the board have one?
Or another phone that might suit?
Thanks in advance
OnePlus 7T.

OnePlus 7T.
Beat me too it
I have had the One Plus 6 for close to 2 years now, still a great phone for it's age. When the time comes for a new phone it'll be a One Plus again.
The OnePlus 8 is on the way, coronavirus dependent, so the 7T should be dropping in price soon. Based on what you've said, there's no need to go for the Pro version.
Thanks for the responses. Oneplus phones not available directly in Australia, might consider shipping one from overseas, but a bit of a risk
OnePlus is an incredible phone. Have has the 6 for just under 2 years and it really is amazing

AliExpress or eglobal will sort you out.
I had a OnePlus 3, now I have a 5T. I had that 2 years in December past and still going strong on a SIM only contract. Great phones, and will be staying with OnePlus for the next one
Out of curiosity what do you's like about the OnePlus?
I have an iPhone8 (have been iPhone for near 10 years now) and due an upgrade in 2 months time. Would probably stick with iPhone again but would also be as open to change if there was a general feeling there is a better phone on the market.
I had iPhones for years but they became too expensive, OnePlus were making a name for themselves and offering similar spec phones for half the price so I took a chance and moved over.
There's a big change in iOS and Android but once you get used to it it's brilliant. Way more customisable and with the ability to sideload many more Apps ;)
The initial decision is iPhone Vs Android and one that's made, with OnePlus you used to get 90% of the top phones from Samsung etc for about 50% of the price. Closer to 70% now.
Of all the handset manufacturers, it's operating system is the one that most closely resembles or Android and, in some cases, surpasses it. Too much bloat on other devices.

Top end specs and more.
Reliable - haven't had a single problem yet.
Excellent build quality
Battery life is very good
Charges to 60% on a 20-30 minute charge
Much cheaper than top brands and offers the same performance
One plus has access to the same apps as other Android devices. You can add apps that aren't in the app store but it does put your phone at risk. It isn't a closed operating system much like apple but that's is all Android phones and you just need to be a little more savvy with security - not obsessively though.
Last autumn I got an Huawei 20 pro, amazon uk for GBP350, about GBP150 cheaper than OnePlus 7t, both phones had similar specs.
I missed my (still working) iPhone6 and still use it a lot for music, radio, audiobooks.
For photos/video the Huawei is excellent but weighs in bare at a standard 190gr, 240gr in slim case, 340 in the full cover wallet, it feels like a lead weight in the pocket, whereas the featherweight iPhone 6 slips in nice into a shirt pocket.
I'm currently on the p20 pro myself and due to upgrade in about a month. I'm not going to rush to do this though. Most contracts seem to be 3 years now so I'd def be looking for a 5g capable phone even though that coverage isn't spread out yet. I expect it will be inside 3 years. I'll be waiting to have a good look at the one plus 8 and even the new Oppo find X2. It's a real shame the new Huawei p40 pro won't have Google services
The Huawei p40 pro won't come with Google services but it's a cinch to install.

Read a wee bit about this being done on the mate30 pro. Easy done is it? Will the apps stay up to date once this has been side loaded?
You can put Google services on a phone in about 5 minutes. Once you've the play store etc, apps stay updated like any other Android phone.

I had to install Google services separately (sideways) on my p20, after that I got notifications just as usual when an update was available for each app. However I ended up turning off most notifications settings - for a more peaceful existence.
You can set it that you get notifications are available for download and installation or you can just have them update automatically.

I prefer to have the notifications settings all off, I can occasionaly check myself and chose what I want to update as regards to apps.
I allow modest silent non-intrusive notifications for emails, Messenger Whats App.
But for the purposes of a Huawei phone, Google settings/apps are all in the control of the user. I think it's a good value phone for the price.
Yeah but the thread isn't about recommending you a phone or what way you configure it. A poster asked would the apps stay up to date, I gave an answer.

The question was asked of me and I replied. It is germane to the thread if a phone (GBP150 cheaper) that I recommended or it's successor is thought to be somewhat redundant.
I did add, seeing as you probably didn't get that far down.

I'm torn on this one myself folks. I'm with O2 and due an upgrade. I've no problem with the network and it's coverage. They don't seem to be stocking the p40 pro and I've big doubts that they'll do the one plus 8 either. That leaves the S20 range or the P30 pro (not going apple). P30 pro still a viable option in 2020? S20 range worth the cost?
O2 have also now cut ties with carphone warehouse so their handset range is out.
I could of course change network but that seems a minefield to me.

Does it matter which network you are on? In the US I can buy an unlocked phone and simply switch the SIM card.

An unlocked phone and change your contract to a cheaper SIM only one is the best plan, unless somone else is paying for it.
For the past few months I have been using two mobile phones.
Samsung A40 - pure rubbish compared to below. Performance total crap, and functionality is limited.
iPhone 6S - my battery is dying, but iPhone 8 will probably be my next phone

That's posh.
The problem with changing networks is that where I live, 2 of the 4 major carriers don't have coverage for calls in doors. I will certainly consider switching to Vodafone. Their selection definitely seems better than O2.

Anybody any experience with dual sim phones? I have a work phone and a personal one and I would prefer to carry a single handset, especially at the weekend but I do have to be contactable. I generally divert all calls/sms to my personal number which is fine but we have started using Whatsapp a lot more at work and there is no way to forward Whatsapp that I can see?

In the same boat with the missus who is now due an uograde. We have good o2 and Vodafone coverage here but she's had her number for years and doesn't want to move from o2 to Vodafone. O2 deals seem to be pish compared to the other providers.
I didn't realise O2 were now off Carphone Warehouse which is a bollox as that's where we always did our business.

On most modern phones you can now run Clone/Parallel/Dual eligible apps (WhatsApp is one of these) so you could have two instances of WhatsApp on the one phone - one for personal, one for professional.
Most dual SIM phones, and all new ones, will have intelligent features like smart ring back, message back etc where it will automatically use the SIM that someone rang/messaged you on to get back to them.

Why doesnt she just get a PAC code from O2 and transfer her number to new Vodafone SIM?
Taking your number with you as you move mobile operator had been the standard for about fifteen years Tony!
I'm obviously of the same vintage as TB's Mrs, I changed mobile provider yesterday from Three to Sky after about 10 years with them! Couldn't believe how easy it was, tho I do remember giving up on it a few years ago as Three were an absolute nightmare to get away from.

Quick Q - is it a thing to take an iPhone to a shop to get more storage memory added to it?? My daughter's iphone is at the limit and I'm hoping this is a cheap enough way to sort it? What sorta ££ if anybody knows, ta.

Go into Settings and select your account. Select iCloud and then photos and optimise storage. That keeps the full resolution version on the cloud and a low res version on your phone.
Anyone have a folding phone? The likes of the z fold 4 or flip? Any problems with them? I find them interesting but they come with such a hefty price tag.
Looked at the Z4 but wasn't really for me. Interesting thing was, with O2 it was £73 a month for 3 years, but a 3rd party supplier with O2 it's £44 for 2 year's.
What 3rd party? I thought they dropped the likes of carphonewarehouse? I think I looked and it would be better to buy it from Samsung themselves and take a sim only contract with o2

Looking maybe at the Google Pixal 7? Anyone have it?
Have had the Pixel 7 for last 6 months, having moved from OnePlus 6T. I'm a huge fan but have always been a fan of the stock Android experience. Camera is stunning.
The 8/8 Pro are only just around the corner though.
My contract with o2 is up this month. Has anyone ever took a sim only contract with O2 through Uswitch? Their deal on say 30g is over half the price that O2 are quoting me directly. The uswitch says it includes roaming and o2 priority. I'm just wondering what the catch is?
Bought my missus a Pixel 7 as the requirement to have a better camera was a big want and in that respect it doesn't disappoint..... but what is disappointing is the battery drain. I've worked through a couple of youtube videos recommending various setting changes but those haven't made any discernible difference.
Is this something others are experiencing? gallsman?
Heard the tensor chip in the Google phones struggles with battery drain. I've never had a Google phone myself though. It's probably a bit like the exynos one from Samsung that was pure sh*te.

I renewed with O2 the last time via the online chat with them and I mentioned the USwitch deal. They asked for a link and I shared it and they matched the deal then.
Were you renewing sim only or including a handset? That's good to know that they might match it

Daughter was with Virgin, got a new iPhone through a third party, 2 year deal cheaper then their comparative 3 year, saved £800.
Any help will do, as it may save her life!!
Wife bought a new Apple phone, so she didn't know/forgot Apple ID password so tried to reset it, typically after doing the reset she remembers it!!
(now anytime I do that it resets it straight away, I never remember that particular password! )
She was told it will take 5 days to be able to reset, now it won't reset it and sending her round the bend! Doing my head in, in the process.
Any ideas how to do this?

Thread bump.
Need to sort sim only contract and seen some great deals online through Uswitch and the like. Spoke to the likes of Three and Vodafone instore and when I mentioned the deals they said they were specific to online only.
Assume it's all legit?

It should be fine. I got a new contract with a S23 through the moneysavingsupermarket cheap phone deals and have had no bother - it tells you the total price of the contract including handset price so there shouldn't be any surprises.
Does anyone still have house phone? Ours broke down about 10 years ago, we haven't replaced it
When I got the fibre in this year it was extra to have a VoIP for the phone so I didn't bother as I'm paying for enough for mobiles so all calls are done using these.

I tried that one several times MR and got faceache from the missus. "Oh what about x, y and z who have our number", "what if the mast goes down and we can't ring for an ambulance etc.". Our phone only ever rings when her Ma calls her or nuisance calls (some may consider them the same thing ;) ) - 99% of calls are via mobile!

I got fed up answering calls or getting off my arse to do it only to get some arsehole telling me my computer (didn't have one) was going to have problems with a virus!
I generally kept them on the phone and waited an hour and hung up

We ported our land line number to Google Voice, don't think that is available outside the US. This meant we kept the old number which we attached to an old cell phone with no SIM card that is on wifi at home. We still get the occasional call, mostly junk, except for some calls from the NYC schools system which still has the number for our kids.
