Farewell to Fidel. It's a long way from the jungles of the Sierra Maestre.
Maybe not the wisest of men but a man nonetheless and one who made his mark

Castro was a survivor  . Many of the legends were murdered. JFK, Martin Luther King, RFK, Che Guevara, Malcolm X.

At least Cuba has a Health Service unlike its big bully neighbouring richest Country in the World.

They became legends because they were murdered!

In Latin America he was. It took FARC 50 years to get a peace deal in Colombia. Cuba is way ahead of countries like Haiti and Jamaica.  IT has the best health system in the Western hemisphere. It has no death squads like El Salvador or Honduras. There is no land war like Guatemala or Colombia. No 70s fascism like Chile or Argentina  . No falling life expectancy like blue collar USA. Incarceration rates are far higher in the US.

They were murdered cos they were legends as well. Malcolm X talked à lot of sense considering what followed.

Castro was infinitely preferable to pretty much every leader on the American continent over the last 60 years.

How rude of Cuba to make a success of itself and not turn out like countries the US constantly intervened in like Haiti, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Colombia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Agreed, I think he done good things for Cuba, often in spite of foreign intervention and obstruction. It was far from plain sailing but he was largely successful in running a country as he wished and hasn't let it go shitways when the Yankee pressure came on. There's very few countries that make enemies of the West and successfully make their own way; Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia, North Korea, Somalia, Libya all fell foul of their Western capitalist overlord and got fcuked in the end by them.

Name a better one.

Pretty much every US leader in that time has been a war criminal, pretty much all of them have interfered with disastrous effects for other countries.

The current US President has been a good one by US standards but is still a war criminal. That shows how low the standards have been in that time.

The prevailing orthodoxy among US Presidents over most of the last 60 years has been to gut organised labour, relax financial regulation, and prevent any sort of decent healthcare system for the majority of people.

America has a long record of executing mentally ill people and incarcerates massive numbers of its people so private corporations can profit.

Across the American continent, US-backed dictators routinely raped and pillaged their countries for personal gain.

Sure Cuba has significant problems and there are a lot of things that should change but the US itself has been and still is a large part of those problems.

When you see the dictators the west has backed up over the years - Saddam, Mubarak, Pinochet, the Shah, Suharto, Banzer, the Contras in Nicaragua, Marcos, even Pol Pot, and the platitudes given to true despots like the Saudi kings, Assad etc. when they died it's absolutely hilarious the way Castro is vilified in comparison.

Castro was an absolute saint in comparison to any of them!

Any comparison of Cuba to those countries I mentioned earlier is favourable to Cuba.

Excellent healthcare, the same life expectancy as the US, low child mortality rates, an excellent education system, absolute poverty eradicated, gun crime virtually non-existent, no death penalty, energy innovation etc., given the difficult circumstances Cuba has had to work with, its success is actually quite remarkable, really.

How has Castros death went down on social media in Cuba? Is it trending?

I decided to start by Googling 'Belize civil rights abuses'. Any of their leaders are miles ahead. That is the only country I checked, but I bet if I Google Bahamas and many more, Castro's conveniently overlooked civil rights abuses won't look good. Killing your opponents without even a trial has been beyond US Presidents, unless Trump changes that.

Then there is his seizing of all the assets of the 'middle classes'. Easy to have a good health service when you go all Mugabe and swipe everything to pay for it.
