For a player to considered in the conversation for the greatest of the great, they have to be able to beat an opponent, to fool them and ghost past them as if they were not there.

Maradona, Pele, Cruyff, Zidane and Ronadinho could all do it.

Messi can do it.

Other players who are not in the conversation for the greatest of all time could do it. John Barnes, George Best.

Cristiano Ronaldo can't do it.

It's a rather significant failing for somebody who wants to be considered in the conversation.

Here's 10 minutes worth of clips of him doing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgpSeoJUZCg

The current 2 play in a time that you cant tackle from behind to get the ball! Defenders were hard hitting then and if messi and ronaldo played back then they would score half the goals they do now! The younger generation dont remember Maradona enough but he took Napoli that had won f**k all before and nothing since he left, to glory in a time every superstar in the world played in Italian football

I wonder the age of some posters. To say Pele was the best but having seen what? a few clips on tv? That's ludicrous. Not many games were televised in the 1960s never mind Brazilian ones. At that rate why not have Stanley Matthews in the top 3?

Using pace to outrun people is not beating a man. It's outsprinting them.

Ronaldo simply cannot do what Messi does or what Maradona or Pele or Ronadinho did.

He can't even do what the original Ronaldo did.

You don't see him double or triple marked like the others were because teams know that he can't do that.

If going on how players performed in World cups Messi wouldn't be close to the top three. Maradona is rated ahead of him on World cups performances because he carried two much weaker Argentina teams on paper on his back to either winning or narrowly losing a final.

All talk thus far has been about offensive players what about defenders? Lothar Matthaus,Cafu,Cannavaro to name but a few that really stood out in World cups.

...but were told Naymar is world class. Last World Cup he was a joke as well... the bollox of a bluffer fell over

Syferus

VAR delivered big time there. Costa Rica would have been eliminated on a wrong call in any other WC.
