People should look up (i.e do your own research) Jewish journalist Max Blumenthal on Twitter. Lubo thinks you shouldn't swallow his bullshit hook, line and sinker.

I'm not sure he's right  ::)

Quote from: theticklemister on May 27, 2024, 10:38:18 AMWhy is it then that minor games don't be played before Senior games now?

I heard the saying that it's not fair on the young lads to play in front of big crowds, but any 'proper' reasons?

As wild weasel said, there are a shitload of games on. Getting to watch them on tv is hard enough, never mind getting to go to them.
I suppose everyones different but for a lot of those young lads it's the biggest game they'll ever play in and might never play in front of a full stadium again. Play it before a senior game surely!
Absolutely agree with that - this will be the pinnacle of many of those lads Gaelic football careers - it's a great achievement for them and I'd be very surprised if there was a lad there who wouldn't rather be playing before a big games, rather than a stand alone fixture.
Same goes for those who talk of underage football as being a developmental pathway towards senior intercounty football - again that neglects the reality that simple mathematics means it's improbable that more than a few off any panel will progress to senior stardom. Let them enjoy the highest level they'll achieve and give them something to tell the kids about!!!

I guess the flip side is if we did manage to somehow get past Cork we play the losers of Kilkenny v Dublin instead of the losers of Limerick v Clare.

GAA Discussion / Re: Tailteann Cup 2024
Last post by GAABoardMod5 - May 27, 2024, 11:56:38 PM

From RTE:

The draw for the preliminary quarter-finals of the Tailteann Cup will take place on Sunday, shortly after the conclusion of the group stages.

It will be part of Sunday Sport on RTÉ Radio 1, beginning from 5.40pm.

Eight sides will be in the draw, including four group runners-up, the three best third-placed teams and New York.

The teams that finish in second place in their group will be seeded and will also have home venues for the matches.

Teams which progress from the preliminary round will go on to meet a group stage winner in the quarter-finals.

Would Derry be busy the Sunday night, looking at staying over either the Saturday or Sunday night.

Stout drinker? If so, YouTube Guinness Guru Derry and visit the 6 bars, all seriously good stout!

Mary Bs, The Celtic and Maileys would be the closest. 10 min dander and you're at the Park Bar & Derby Bar. Quick 1 or 2 in each. Another wee dander you can hit the likes of the Rocking Chair, Gweedore and Peadars on Waterloo St... You won't go thirsty!

Quote from: balladmaker on May 27, 2024, 07:49:35 PMBeen a few years since I've been to Celtic Park.  What's the parking situation like in the area?

Parking is a disaster at the best of times, worse at the minute with roadworks on the Foyle road that have been going on for months at this stage so best avoid coming into the town via the lower deck

Be as well parking at the carpark opp the City Baths on William St and walk? 20 mins on foot give or take
Cheers, appreciate that!

Antrim / Re: Antrim Hurling
Last post by JonnyD_ - May 27, 2024, 10:58:36 PM

i think the main reason for finding someone local isnt anti- Gleeson or anti- southerner i just think it makes more sense to have someone whos not spending 20 hours a week in the car travelling up and down. its a tough enough job without being on the road. thats my honest opinion and mental fatigue surely must kick in, especially after 5 long seasons starting in the summer realistically!

Probably Gregory... he's the only one i honestly think of with a track record of winning! and winning consistently (bar last year lol!) why not give it someone like him supported by a good back room team.

Re: Carlow i'm maybe being flippant there but we should be targeting those games as must wins, i think thats part of my point. apologies  ;D

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on May 27, 2024, 05:40:50 PMSo which Antrim man are you recommending?

Not sure what standard of players we have to match teams physically? We have plenty skill btw but over 70 plus minutes the big teams grind you down.

Bitta disrespectful on Carlow, they'd a better score difference to us and with 15 players on the park they could have won.

Quote from: An Watcher on May 26, 2024, 12:04:39 AMDid anyone really think we could beat donegal tonight.  Seriously.  We have better players but vast difference on the sideline.  My god
They were in good positions to win against them 6 weeks ago twice so I would presume so.

And didn't. And yet another second half collapse this time. Did you really think Tyrone would win?

Said it often enough but while we should be eternally grateful to Dooher and Logan for taking the shackles off Mickey's team and leading them to Sam in 2021, everything since has been miles from the required standard. A rudderless ship and a team which is way less than the sum of their parts. Individual talent keeps them competitive but lack of a coherent plan and identity so clear against anyone half decent. With the talent coming through Tyrone really need to have a rethink.
