Shockingly poor attendance. Pricing and fixture build up have to be looked at. Not many can afford to pay those prices week after week, especially if trying to bring your family.  Travel cost on top of it all too.

It's a feckin amatuer game ffs! Fans from all over the country shouldnt be being rode like this... our county players deserve better than 33k at an all ireland semi final.

HQ thought that no matter how many big games they invent, crowds will blindly flock to them. Second year of Super 8's and it's clear fans are already voting with their feet.

We're being saturated by c'ship days out now and the novelty has wore off. It's time HQ came back to the real world.

Increased ticket prices, 1 Superteam juggernaut taking the unpredictably out if it, a tighter schedule introduced at the same time as 2 extra rounds added, GB£ falling for Tyronies, a boring sport.......
Nearly the perfect storm.

To be honest, I think the week after week thing is a bit of a red herring. Most people who went to the Super 8 games also went to the Semi FInal, these are relatively hardcore fans. Increased attendance at semi-finals comes from people who don't go to every county game, which brings in family members of regulars, people who attend club games, those who watch on TV and a lot of neutrals and people tenuously connected with the county. I think the poor visual quality of many games and the lack of competition is the real killer.

Costs of travel etc are no more than ever they were. As the hurling shows, if the product is good and the results unpredictable then people will turn out for the games.

And the final tickets up as well, not to worry Dubs always get the cheap ones on the hill.

Retaining the quarters would be better than that super 8 shite.

Was reading that there's been some poor attendances in semi finals in the past, e.g.

39,000 at Mayo v Fermanagh in 04 (replay)
39,000 at Kerry v Cork in 05
37,000 at Cork v Meath in 07
35,000 for Kerry v Cork on 08

And the early 80s had attendances in the 20s for some semis.

But I'd say this is one of the most disappointing. The GAA have been cute enough when it comes to Dublin games in Leinster saying we're expecting 25-30 and ending up with 35 so doesn't seem as bad. For this one the media were talking about 50k, so it's a wonder the GAA didnt try and counteract in advance.

It seems it was the Tyrone crowd that was down on expectations. Which I wouldnt have guessed from the Tyronies on here who seemed to be more positive than this time last year. But as you say, the costs add up and another 50 quid a head was a tall order.

Who in the gaa thought it would be a good idea to introduce a format where teams would be regularly playing each week while simultaneously raising ticket prices?

Attendances down from last year and more price rises this year.

It's a GPA driven initiative at heart - more high profile matches for their members - but thankfully it's helping prove that there is no market for professional Gaelic Football in Ireland.

Even if there is one on All Souls day, like the First World War it will not last until Christmas.
