Quote from: Blueforever on March 27, 2024, 09:28:12 PMIf we needed to know the state of football and hurling underage in the country we got our answer tonight and last Saturday in Hawkfield. The scandal ofthe lack of promotion Gaelic games in Portlaoise and Mountmellick is disgraceful.if neither clubs is unable or unwilling to improve there lot the country board has a duty to intervene as it's their brief to promote Gaelic games in the country imagine the big schools in both towns playing in B and C competition and unless something is done Country footballers will be vying with Waterford and London to see who Ellie's can reach Division 3 and our hurlers will be competing with the likes of meath and Kerry for many years to come

Many other clubs represented in these schools other than Portlaoise & Mountmellick. Very unfair to suggest the clubs are unwilling to improve the standards in the school. The schools themselves have a responsibility too but must be aligned with proper structured support from the county board . This is not happening enough in the secondary schools in Laois. Portlaoise have a GDO going into the primary schools in the town but this is a massive job. I'm not sure about Mountmellick?

In order to improve the standards in all secondary schools in the county it needs buy in from the school staff , county board and clubs . This is not happening.

Portlaoise well beaten in the final by New York. Great achievement to get there though.
New York would have a big oul pick!!

Should probably be a second club in New York.
Heard they have been poaching from Boston and Philadelphia too!
New York were a county team picked from all the teams in NewYork

Do Portlaoise have the resources to tap into the potential in the primary schools ? I doubt it ? This is a county board issue . Whether they play with Portlaoise, Clonad, The Heath etc is irrelevant. Because these numbers are not being reflected in Portlaoise GAA Juvenile teams is hardly totally their fault . There is a far bigger issue here being ignored by people who just want any opportunity to have a go ?
If 1/3 of the underage playing population are in Portlaoise schools , why is there not a GDA there semi permanently developing kids for whatever club they wish to play for ?

Is Clonad not a second club in the town ?
Maybe clubs should look at their own set-up and stop looking for ways to break-up Portlaoise?
Typical Reaction!! Channel your bitterness into something more constructive in your own club ?

Looking at today's county final it must sicken Cheddar to see at lot of his players stand up and be counted in the best possible way . Whoever couldn't see past their own agenda and seek support for Cheddar's plan for Laois hurling should be ashamed of themselves ? If this were a business, the board would be questioned after countless ridiculous decisions?

Looking for two Laois selectors....I'd love to see some Portlaoise involvement and maybe one from over the Stradbally Carlow side....

He needs to get the likes of Healy, and Paul Kingston back in there along with Gary Walsh James Finn and Conor Boyle among others!

Don't think Healy will commit due to his loyalty to Hurlers unfortunately. Him and Kingston would definitely add to the squad. The other three i'm afraid have been tried and are not up to the standard required. Maybe time to go with a more youthful approach and build with some good young lads that were on show in the championship.

God the ref in the Abbeyleix / Harps match was shocking tonight . Missed so many frees . His lack of decision  making almost incited a melee . Surely for such an important match , these two teams deserved better ?
