General discussion / General Election 2011
January 18, 2011, 12:00:26 AM
I was canvassed tonight by Labour. He's a nice guy and will get a transfer but his running mate will be well down the list.

Anyway it's pretty much game on now. We have no Government at the minute and are waiting on the ruling party to decide who will lead them through the election rather than who should lead the Country. If Cowen loses he'll be heading for the Offaly via the Pheonix park. If he wins we might have to hang in for a couple of weeks yet and the President will have to clear her calender.

What do you think?

- I think we can pretty much rule out SF from this poll.

Fine Gael has decided to end a pairing agreement with the Government that will focus more attention on the Coalition's slim Dáil majority.

About time. Could this be the begining of the end for this Government? With the vote on the by-elections on Wednesday could the Government lose this one?

A former junior minister has called for a meeting of Fianna Fáil TDs and Senators to discuss the rumblings over the Taoiseach's leadership.

Earlier, Enterprise Minister Batt O'Keeffe admitted the party needed to be reassured.

In an interview on RTÉ's News at One, former junior minister Tom Kitt says the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party needs to meet to consider the ongoing controversy.

Looks like it's finally gathering some momentum.

General discussion / An alternative oath worded by SF?

The European Commission is reported to be preparing new plans to co-ordinate rates of corporation tax across the European Union.

The proposal is understood to be part of a drive to re-invigorate the EU's internal market.

Attempts to consolidate European corporation tax rates have been ongoing for almost ten years now.

Don't mind the poll. I only did it for badness.

All you socail networkers out there, what do you think?

Irelands answer to facebook. I'm not a member of any of these types of networks but heard this advertised on the wireless and thought I'd have a look. The home page put me off straight away and I went no further.

I'm sick of FF, Mary O'Rourke included. If that woman had half the decencey she pretends to have she would have left FF with Haughey.

Fraud and Perjury alive and well in FF.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny is to seek to move a Dáil motion of no confidence in Taoiseach Brian Cowen in the wake of yesterday's reports into the banking crisis.

A Fine Gael spokesman said Mr Kenny believed they confirmed that Mr Cowen was the chief architect of the catastrophic policy failures that led to the country's current economic crisis

..................................................................

However the draft terms of reference drawn for the forthcoming Commission of Investigation exclude Government policy and will focus on errors made by the banks, the auditors and financial regulators.

Fine Gael described the decision as outrageous.

Labour said there were many vested interests who wanted to hide the truth and escape culpability, while Sinn Féin said the reports outlined the mugging of the Irish people by a gang of corporate criminals aided by the government.

Has this the potential to be a 15 pager or will it be the usual no confidence 2 pager?

On Saturday (May 15) the true nature of the Twenty-Six County state was once again exposed as the Garda violently attacked those who dare to oppose NAMA, the bank bailouts and the savage programme of cutbacks.

The Garda response to éirígí's protest was not the result of an operational blunder or lack of experience. The decision to attack peaceful protesters was both premeditated and well planned. And more importantly is was highly political. The Dublin government have clearly decided that the emerging resistance to their right wing economic policies must be crushed before it grows stronger.

Below is a full account of the events of the day. The times below are accurate to within ten minutes. All of the key facts below have been authenticated by eye witness accounts, photographs and video footage

Earlier, the Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin accused Fine Gael of 'recklessly undermining' the national interest and future jobs.

He was responding to claims by Fine Gael Finance Spokesman Richard Bruton that proposals which would give the European Commission a veto over Irish budgets could jeopardise this country's low rate of corporation tax and see the introduction of new taxes.

http://www.rte.ie/business/2010/0513/eurozone.html

This is a pretty big deal for the Goernment and main opposition to be disagreeing on. Either the EU will have a veto on our budgets or they won't?

It may still be a few weeks yet before St Patrick's Day, but yesterday at lunch-time in the heart of snow-covered Washington DC an unusual Irish drama was played out.

The Irish arts organisation, Solas Nua, in conjunction with the local GAA club, DC Gaels, brought 'guerrilla street' theatre to life.

General discussion / Coughlan V O'Leary
February 17, 2010, 08:08:59 AM
Now I'm no fan of Coughlan but I never believe a word O'Leary says.

Is it time for a Harry Hill style fininsh to this?

The Tánaiste, Mary Coughlan, has said she believes that a positive outcome to the Ryanair proposal to establish a maintenance facility at Dublin Airport is still achievable - if common sense, goodwill and determination are shown.

Sinn Féin set to be largest party in NI - poll

http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/0212/northpolitics.html

A poll in today's Belfast Telegraph suggests that Sinn Féin could become the largest political party in Northern Ireland.

The poll of 1,080 adults was carried out by Inform Communications over a five day period following last week's deal between the DUP and Sinn Féin at Hillsborough Castle

RTE add at the end of their piece - The poll has triggered speculation of a future political crisis in Northern Ireland, if Martin McGuinness becomes First

Why do they make this stuff up? Pricks. Who is specultating about a crisis on a poll released this morning? It's hard enough to make a power sharing executive work without these pricks making this shit up. RTE are scum.

IN A number of offices around Dublin and further afield, the main item on the agenda is the upcoming report from the Moriarty tribunal.

Anxious parties waiting to hear what tribunal chairman Mr Justice Michael Moriarty has to say about them don't know when the report will be published, although it could be as early as next week. Mostly likely the parties involved will only find out on the day of publication.
