C Mort got about 10 mins on Sunday as well I hear.

Looked ok apparently and scored a couple of frees after coming on.

Ya I heard he was back in training, as only he can!

I work with two lads from Shrule and they were laughing about how they had seen he was back training. Apparently there are three different possible pitches that can be used for training in the town. But of the three Goldilocks choose the one right beside the local church. An unusual choice if you know the town and the three pitches as this particular one is probably the poorest of them. But the reason he chose this one was because it was a Sunday morning and it just so happened that half the town were leaving Mass as he jogged by, giving him an instant audience. Looks like he is missing being in the limelight!

More chance of Roscommon winning the all ireland then Down beating Kerry. Who have Down beaten?

Roscommon are 100/1 lads. Get your money on them!

GAA Discussion / Re: Dermot Earley Snr RIP

We don't have that many famous faces from Roscommon past or present because we are a small county, population wise.

But by God when we do produce legends we do in it style. Dermot was an absolute legend, gentleman and officer and more so he was an extremely proud Rossie too.

Roscommon don't have too much to be proud of on the GAA scene in recent years (with a few obvious exceptions) but one of the main things that has always made me feel proud of my county was the name Dermot Earley and the qualities he exemplified both on and off the pitch.

He is no longer be with us in body but he will forever live in the hearts and minds of all true Gaels regardless of where they come from.

Bloody hell whats up with Mayo? Where is the hunger, pride, fight or game plan? They look a very poorly organised and motivated side. Shocking performance from them and how long now until the calls for JOM's head?

Thats not to take away from Sligo and Kevin Walsh. They are an absolute credit to their county and jersey. Huge performance from them and what odds now on them beating Leitrim and winning a Connaught title? They have been magnificent today.

Quote from: seafoid on April 26, 2010, 08:46:33 AMFrom the Mayo point of view I think something of far more concern is the Rossies coming up with this all-Ireland minor team. It is very like the British election with the rossies as the previously no hoper lib Dems and Mayo as the Tories with Galway as New labour.

There is absolutely no chance of Roscommon making any sort of impact in Connacht this year. None. They are at least 2/3 years from being competative again. Some talent coming up through the ranks from Minor and U-21 but they still lack experience and need bulking up physically. Very realistic chance of London beating them in a few weeks time in Ruislip. And even if they don't Leitrim will be a seriously motivated team for the semi final following the tragic death of Philly McGuinness. I would not be too worried about Roscommon if I were one of the other 5 teams in Connacht, and thats not cute hoorism talk. Thats having watched them in the league drop to Div 4 and have their arses handed to them by Mayo last year.

Bad and all as Mayo were yesterday they will get better as the championship comes round. They would still be my tip to win it and do well too outside Connacht. They might not be realistic AI material yet but they are still a formidable outfit on their day. The Mayo followers tend to be hard on them when they lose and get very down in the mouth about it all. Come championship they will be back on form though.

Tyrone for me- by 3-4points. Can't see all this optimism regarding Cork. They are playing the 3 time all-ireland champions tomorrow- not the boy scouts.

Definitely not the boy scouts.... maybe the girl guides, but certianly not the boy scouts ;D.

Have we witnessed the passing of what has simply been a magnificent Tyrone team today and the emergence of a new power in football? Its hard to see a lot of those Tyrone players being on the scene next year and maybe Micky Harte too? A lot of milage on the clock maybe a freshening up of things might be no harm.

Better team won today regardless of referee decisions good, bad or indifferent. Crying about decisions not going your way and what could have happened if this or that went your way is just sour grapes. Miskella should have gone, O'Connor should not. Tyrone had an extra man for 50 minutes of the game and could not make it count. Wiped out at midfield and defense, Cork were just a far far better side. Cavanagh would not have made a big enough difference, simply no excuses but the fact that the far better team won.

Pat Spillane is a collosal gobshite too. Just childish garbage at the end there at least Brolly was smart enough not to rise to it. Or get up and smack the cnut in the gob. Bitter shitehawk.

Have to agree with Beard.... Tommy Dowd is my abiding memory of that defeat. "The man with no neck" was everywhere in the 2nd half....

God ya, the memories. I was 12 and it was my second time ever in Croker. AI semi against Cork a few years earlier was my first (the Tony Mac goal that was disallowed). Took us ages to find our way to our seats on upper Cusak. Badly signed, asked a Guard and he pointed us out through a big green sliding door and up the stairs.

Anyway Duggans goal was my main memory of it but also Dowds performance. God almighty he was just unstopable that day. I think he came on as a sub too? Was he injured before hand and did not start? Memory is scetchy about it. He kicked some monster points that day, was along drive home afterwards. Stopped in Harry's in Kinnegad for dinner and remember some ould biddy in a Meath shirt laughing at us and shouting up da royal. Sickening.......

Where Roscommon impressive?

Meh Ros were ok. Did what they needed to but then you cannot begin to imagine how heartless and disjointed Offaly are. They were just shockingly bad and if they don't get the finger out will be going down while providing cannon fodder for the rest of Div 3 on their way. Put up no opposition to Ros at all so they made Ros probably look a lot better then they actually are.

Rossfan was Ciaran McManus left at full back for the whole game?
Surely he is wasted back there

Yep he spent the entire game at FB and to be honest he looked a little but lost at times and frustrated. Lucky not to have gotten a yellow card in the second half. Some very late tackles and a few niggly off the ball things. Did not look like a happy camper at all. Why is being played there anyway? Has he gotten too slow for midfield or forwards? Seemed like a waste of a very talented player and one they could have used around the middle as we cleaned them. Even if they had brought him out to the middle and had him stand in front of David Casey and stop him going forward for Ros. Offaly were very poor and disjointed for most of the match. They reminded me a lot of what Roscommon were like last season.

Sounded like a very good game of football. Good result for the Rossies against a nearly full strength Galway team. Cullinane appeared to be best player on field (according to Willie).

Think he caught something like 10 kickouts. Scored a point as well. Won't see too many of those.

He is a bloody huge man. Paul O'Connell is about the same build and height as him. Seamie O'Neill is 6'2 and built like a brick sh1t house but Cullinane was a good 2 or 3 inches over him and just as broad. He absolutely creamed us at midfield. It did not help that we kept landing kickouts on top of him though and O'Neill is just back from his honeymoon so he probably is not fully fit. Mind you I bet he got plenty of exercise ;D

Good performance from Ros. Plenty of fight and self belief there compared to last year. It's amazing what a good manager can do with basically the same panel of players.

Just ran out of steam in extra time and Galways experience and wiser heads like the two Joyces and Meehan helped them run out comfortable winners in the end. Meehan had an excellent game and if he carries that sort of form into the league and championship he will do a lot of damage.

As for Ros I'm looking forward to the national league and championship beyond. We might not be good enough this year to win Connaught but I think we will give it a bloody good rattle.
