Post by: seafoid on October 06, 2022, 02:39:06 PM
I see from wikipedia that there is a townland in Tyrone called Balix lower.
Is anyone on the Board from there ?

It looks like the townland lies west of Clann na nGael's Aughabrack pitch/facilities. Not my end of the county anyway.
I think there is a Ballix Upper also.
I went to school with a lad from there.

Yes there is an upper and lower. I think the old school in upper Balix was the highest in Ireland when open.

It is pronounced bale-icks

Don't want to dox myself. Family near that area.  As stb mentions, it's pronounced bale-ix, not ball-ix.

My aunt lives there. Close to my dad's home place. Tyrone manager lives about two miles away. (Cue more jokes)

I'd say wherever you go in Tyrone you're never that far from a Balix.

Not sure what you mean. This is the map for Balix Lower. Balix upper borders it to the south.

So you're trying to say that Tyrone has their Upper Ballix south of their Lower Ballix?

When I saw this last night for the first time I thought they were going to be singing something else.

Fair play to Philomena though. 80 years young and going strong.
