Terrible news for his wife, children and extended family.

I was actually at Firhill when he scored twice on his Celtic debut to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 victory over Partick. Phil, a lifelong Celtic supporter, never really fufilled the potential he had, but this is due to all the injuries as much as anything else. The fact that he was still playing at 35 shows his dedication to the sport he loved.

It is also worth mentioning the roles played by both Rangers and the SPL (in particular the comments of Walter Smith) in ensuring that to-morrow's game was postponed. Calling the game off was the correct thing to do.
