Police to return 'wedding gifts'

The police have been told to return suspected stolen goods to a woman who argued they were her wedding presents.

The district judge at Londonderry Crown Court made the order on Friday.

The court heard the police seized items including 35 pairs of workmen's boots and flatscreen TVs from a house in Strathfoyle in April.

But Ellie Stokes, from Cornshell Fields in Derry, argued they were her wedding presents. She is to marry her fiance on Monday.

A computer, two oil burners and other electrical and household goods were also seized.

The police said they believed the house in Strathfoyle was a "drop-off" for stolen goods.

The district judge said the items should be returned to Miss Stokes because there was no evidence to prove they were stolen.

Miss Stokes said she did not want the boots returned

A 40-year-old US man allegedly robbed a Chicago bank using a threatening note written on the back of his own pay slip, which was printed with his name and home address.

Thomas Infante of Cary, Illinois, walked into a Fifth Third Bank at 5.50pm local time and handed a teller a note that read "Be Quick Be Quit (sic). Give your cash or I'll shoot", according to an FBI affidavit filed on Monday. The teller gave the man about $US400.

The robber left behind his demand note, written on a torn half of the pay slip.

Investigators found the other half of the note - with Infante's name and home address - outside the bank's front doors.

The pay stub showed Infante was paid $US165.99 by Jewel Food Stores on October 23, according to the FBI.

"It's fairly unusual that we see something that specifically stupid," said FBI spokesman Ross Rice.

"But overall, we see a lot of strange bank robberies."

The bank teller described the robber as a man in his late 30s with brown eyes and no front teeth.

Investigators learned Infante may have been living at a home less than two blocks from the bank. They interviewed his brother there, who said Infante had been there earlier and had left a brown jacket behind - the same one seen in a security videotape of the robbery, according to the FBI affidavit.

His brother, shown a photograph taken from the bank security video, also identified him as the robber.

Infante was arrested at his Cary home and later admitted to the robbery, according to the FBI affidavit.

Facebook ban of breast-feeding photos sparks protests (Reuters)

CANBERRA (Reuters) - Are photographs of a mother breast-feeding her child indecent? The social networking site Facebook has sparked a massive online debate -- and protests -- after removing photos that expose too much of a mother's breast.

Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt said the website takes no action over most breast-feeding photos because they follow the site's terms of use but others are removed to ensure the site remains safe and secure for all users, including children.

"Photos containing a fully exposed breast (as defined by showing the nipple or areola) do violate those terms (on obscene, pornographic or sexually explicit material) and may be removed," he said in a statement.

"The photos we act upon are almost exclusively brought to our attention by other users who complain."

But Facebook's decision to ban some breast-feeding photos has angered some users, including U.S. mother Kelli Roman whose photograph of her feeding her daughter was removed by Facebook.

Roman is one of the administrators of an online petition called "Hey Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene!" which has picked up speed in the past week after protesters organized a virtual "nurse-in" on Facebook and held a small demonstration outside Facebook's office in Palo Alto, California.

The petition has now attracted more than 80,000 names and over 10,000 comments, reigniting the old debate about the rights or wrongs of breast-feeding in public.

Organizers of the petition said some women had been warned not to repost photographs that had been removed from their pages or they would face being kicked off Facebook.

One breast-feeding mother, called Rebekah, said Facebook removed a photograph of her feeding her child.

"I find it offensive that (Facebook) can remove my photo but not the close up picture of a thonged backside I (have) seen on a friend's page or remove the "what kama sutra position are you?" quiz application," she wrote.

Facebook, which has more than 120 million members, is standing by its decision.

Schnitt said the company had called many U.S. media groups during the course of the protest to ask to place an advert related to breast-feeding that showed a woman breast-feeding her child with a fully exposed breast. None agreed.

"Obviously, a newspaper and Facebook are different things but the underlying motivation for the content policies are the same," he told Reuters

Boy guilty of shooting his mother

A 12-year-old boy has been found guilty in the United States of murdering his mother following a row over his household chores
A judge in Arizona ruled prosecutors had proved the boy acted intentionally when he shot his mother, Sara Madrid, eight times last year.

The boy, from the city of Douglas in Cochise County, was found guilty of premeditated murder.

He has not been identified because he was charged as a juvenile.

He is due to be sentenced on 23 January.

The hearing took place in Cochise County Superior Court in the southern Arizona town of Bisbee.

According to prosecutors, the shooting happened after the boy had argued with his mother over chores.

He got a pistol from a bedroom cupboard and shot Sara Madrid repeatedly.

Abuse claims

Her live-in boyfriend of 10 years, Alfonso Munoz, saw what happened and he says the boy gave him the empty gun afterwards.

Mr Munoz, who helped raise the boy, said he had taught him how to use the weapon for emergencies and self-defence.

The boy's lawyer argued the child did not intend to kill his mother, but only wanted to get back at her for abusing him.

Police said the boy told them his mother yelled at him and slapped him.

Prosecutors wanted the child tried as an adult, but the judge ruled the case should remain in juvenile court after a psychologist and psychiatrist testified that he suffered physical and verbal abuse from his mother and could be rehabilitated in the juvenile justice system.

Under Arizona law, the boy can be held only until he turns 18 years of age.

Bebo / Facebook / Youtube all blocked in my work... Technically we are not allowed on any sites that have nothing to do with work, I use the line though that I get stuff like results and prices off the board, and that the more I know about the GAA the better for everyone as I can chat to the punters about it an all...

Police seek blow-up doll sex bandit

An Australian man broke into three adult shops, had sex with blow up dolls named "Jungle Jane" and then dumped his plastic conquests in a nearby alley, local media reported Wednesday.

"It's totally bizarre. It's a real concern that someone like that is out on the street," said one of the owners of the adult sex shops in Cairns in northern Queensland state.

"He has been taking the dolls out the back and blowing them up and using the dolls and leaving them in the alley," the owner, who gave the name of Vogue, told the Cairns Post newspaper.

Police told the Cairns Post that scientific officers had taken DNA samples, fingerprints and pictures of the crime scene.
