Gary Speed was one of four players from Barry Bennell's junior football teams who killed themselves later in life after being coached by the man now charged with multiple sex offences against young footballers, the jury at Bennell's trial was told.

Matt Damon has apologised for the widely criticised comments he made in December about the wave of sexual abuse allegations in Hollywood, telling US TV show Today: "I really wish I'd listened a lot more before I weighed in on this."

He said last year: "I do believe that there's a spectrum of behaviour and we're going to have to figure, you know, there's a difference between patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation.

Seems rational comment is a crime these days within the wave of liberal bullshit.

Agreed.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with Damon's original statement IMO.

No one was saying patting someone on the butt was the same as rape, though.

Damon making the sorts of logical jumps that would mean he'd fit in very well around here.

A bit like your logic jump when calling Antrim a racist.

Is Damon's comments not in a similar vein to the open letter penned by 100 leading French ladies the other week?

Could you point out where abouts in that piece he said they did?

Logical jumps indeed  ::)

It was headline news around the world yesterday that some guy in Australia patted a woman on the butt - so if anything, there seems to be even more mass hysteria around that than rape.

Err, it is being covered as part of a larger story of systematic sexual assault by men is to be expected. Would you be ok if some random fĂșcker grabbed your arse if you were a woman? The "what the fĂșck?" here is someone defending Damon for trying to draw equivalence with a far more grisly act as if only the worst behaviour should be covered. That's a poor mindset to have in the first place, let alone one to espouse publically. Damon's best buddies in Hollywood - the Afflecks - have been deeply embroiled in these allegations so the perception he has coming out minimising anything is not good to say the least.

Guess what lads, if you're not a creep you're going to be just fine. There's nothing marginalised about men in society and some here and elsewhere would do well to remember that basic fact of life before trying to pour scorn on something that in general is very positive for women and men.

You said no-one was saying patting someone on the butt was the same as rape, I'm pointing out that there was a far greater media reaction to someone being patted on the butt yesterday than there was to the (doubtless many) rapes that took place.

Obviously all sexual assault is wrong, the rest of what you've written is drivel.

I'd suggest you look at other media outlets for your news. You must have missed the story about the horrific gang rape and murder of a 15 year old Indian girl.
