Don't like it all Ziggy, I'd go for one of the IXUS models every time!

Can anyone give any advice / recommend a decent, fairly-proced digital Reflex camera?

Thanks,

What price range are you looking at there Lorcs?

What about waiting for the next models of camera phones - to be hitting the markets here by the end fo this month.
The latest Sonyericsson model for example will have:
5.2 MP
x3 Optical zoom
x32 Digital zoom

Similar spec model coming from Nokia as well although their camera won't be  quite so good

Digital zoom, IMHO blast, is nothing much more than a gimmick -- it necessarily involves quality degradation, and it's no different from having the image transferred to your PC and then 'zooming in' (or enlarging), to see exactly how the image degrades.

Dixons had an ad in yesterday's papers for a Fuji A800 - 8.3MPixel with 3x optical zoom, 2.5" LCD, anti-blur (whatever that is) Real Photo Technology (ditto), ISO range 100-800, dual memory format (XD, SD) - €140. Seems like good value, though I don't know much about it. It didn't mention whether it had video, etc.

Yeah, digital zoom is bollox, not worth having really - total gimmick.

... anti-blur (whatever that is)...

Anti-blur = 'Optical/Image Stabilisation' = anti-camera shake device, especially for long exposures shots (where the aperture is open for a relatively long time in low-light conditions), or very high zoom ratios (doesn't apply to this camera).

Yes, agreed, but its part of the advertising blurb that goes with the cameras .... and can be good crack for embarrassing people.
Sony also have cybershot in cameras and phones (will take 9 pics in about 1-2 secs and you can pick which you want to keep) which is very useful when trying to get an action shot or even to avoid having to re-take pictures of people posing where someone has their eyes closed etc.

? What do you mean? Doesn't matter about the pixel count of the sensor, at all. Digital zoom simply spreads out the pixels over a greater area, in this case to a maximum of 32 times the original size, with the associated degradation in quality.

I meant that the picture will be degraded to the point that only one pixel (or thereabouts) will be on the screen.  It was a cack-handed way of suggesting that x32 digital zoom was a load of shite.
