I've always enjoyed Hugh McIlvanney, I believe he has recently retired. I recently stumbled across his article after Celtic's win in Lisbon in 1967. Great stuff!

Edit: I've just noticed others have mentioned Hugh.
That was never a square ball!!

No wides

Paddy Heaney - always informative, astute and never bias!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Stallion

Yes, Heaney was good in the Irish News.

Roy Curtis.
Gerry Thornley.
Insightful and objective at all times.

Dare I say it... Tom Humphries was excellent though events that ended it were dreadful.

What happened to him? Always enjoyed his stuff, have a book of his somewhere.

Paddy Heaney was / is my fav Gaa Journo. Hugh McIvanney was always excellent, I quite like Matthew Syed in the Times. As much as Paul Kimmage infuriates me sometimes he's a compelling journo & sports author. Brolly is a good read too.

Humpheries got into trouble involved with a 15-year-old girl etc... bad stuff.

Agree about Kimmage.
Paddy Heaney was generally very good as well. Brolly can be good, but the trouble is, its one good article in 10 and gets lost among all the other guff.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either

A thespian and dyed in the wool Corkman when Cork could hurl, mad as a bag of frogs, but entertaining nonetheless.

I must say i found Holt's columns in the Mirror to be unspeakably awful on the odd occasion I read them.

Brian Reade another who loves to write nonsense about "proper" football supporters.
