I have it through work so can't really advise you on cost but many policies cover GP referrals for consultation and would be no use to you if you require emergency care.

Obviously not for this situation but it got me thinking moving forward.

Yeh maybe there is nowhere in the North that offers private a and e services similar to the mater say.

I still have faith in the NHS for people that are very sick etc but it's the other services that have faltered badly.

Years of austerity and dismantling, bloated management and ultimately people living longer with more complex medical needs means it ain't changing anytime soon.

Hence looking at some kinda of private cover

Duality offer private out of hours as well.

I asked the same question as you did a while ago on here and got some good advice.

I guess it all depends on the cover you want. Someone suggested to simply put some money aside if your concern is for your young child and getting emergency private treatment should the need arise.

There are a number of health insurance providers here. Some employers have the option of a health insurance and that is well worth looking into.

I ended up going with Vitality Insurance. They have an option of an online GP consultation and various other private specialist consultants.

At your age you'll probably get some decent deals. I have AXA cover for the family and it has come on handy on a number of occasions - when it's 4 or 5 uears to see some consultants it is becoming a necessity. Take a look at the likes of Vitality, Axa etc.

Axa Aviva vitality bupa if they still offer it. Hard to compare as there's so many differences have a think about what you really want covered then I suppose it will partly come down to price

I am with Benenden, as someone said above. Wouldn't cover that emergency appointment, more like quick referrals about stuff you wait yrs for, on the NHS.Takes 6 months to kick in,
